Lord knows I love Misto and all the threads she weaves here, but I must once again vehemently oppose the 'Osten is a liar' theory. My reasons:
Osten held Darrah up for TWO HOURS before giving in. No way he threw that competition.
Osten had confessionals early in which he expressed regret for screwing up. Nobody around to hear him -- if he was faking, what would be the point of lying in the confession???
He built the shelter 5 feet from the high tide line, then tried to stop the FREAKING OCEAN with a log and a shovel. Then, he wanted to move it five feet further up, over the fire, to stay away from mosquitos?? Like mosquitoes can't fly the extra 10 feet???
The guy is clearly not a rocket scientist.
He wanted to quit, and it wasn't strategy. Once again, I go to the confessional tapes -- he whined how he was breaking down physically, and was going to catch pneumonia. If he was faking, he might say that to the other players, but why on camera?? Makes no sense.
Looking at it from a big picture perspective, what would he have to gain by looking like a wimp so early?? Physical threats don't get voted off early -- they get voted off in mid-game, just before or after the merge. For him to whine on day 3 (and actually ASK to be voted off, I might add), would just be stupid. At that point in the game, he'd have been better off to WIN the challenges, then throw them later on when he'd established who the power players were.
The evidence shows him as anything but a strategist, and even if he CAN swim (and I believe he can), he panicked, as he has done all game long, and freaked out... as he has done all game long. He's not the big liar, he's the big wuss.
So, if he IS telling a lie about anything, it'll be that he says he was 'pretending' to be a wuss all along as part of brilliant 'strategy'. But that wouldn't be awesome, it'd just be pathetic.
If you want the Big Lie, keep your eyes on Jon. Betcha he uses Shawn to do it!
Just my opinion!
