"RE: Season 5 Favorite Dances" LAST EDITED ON 08-07-09 AT 11:50 AM (EST) HMMM, too hard to rank them, maybe I'll come back later and do that, but the stand outs for me were The Necklance Routine by Travis. Totally Blown Away. This was one of the few times that the choreographer deserved the lavishing. The story "read" without it being explained at the beginning, it was an actual partnership dance and it was danced brilliantly by Jeanine and Jason. This was one of the few times my mouth dropped open. By far, the stand out routine of the season for me. In no particular order The Crash Test Dummies Ashley and Kupono?. Wade invents new ways for the body to move. Despite the costumes and heavy makeup, the dance worked for me. Argentine Tango -- Janette and Brandon. Yeah! finally SYTYCD gets choreographers that actually know how to dance Argentine tango. Qwerty is relieved (and so is everyone else who don't have to slog through her rants). Janette and Brandon danced a high risk routine very well (I don't think any other female would have been able to pull it off) Now I am curious if this routine will get nominated since the schlock that was Dmitri's tango from last season was. Bollywood Kaitlyn and Jason Loved this one, and loved her in it. Her personality shone in this one. Sadly, after this she seemed to be flat. Pop Jazz Thieves - Janette and Brandon? What a fun piece! And again, Wade invents new movement in dance. Addiction routine. Mia Michaels. I normally find her stuff really self indulgent, but this one worked. Kupono was super freaky as addiction Waltz - Vitolio and Asuka. Absolutely beautiful. The choreography finally showed Asuka's soft side. "RE: Season 5 Favorite Dances" But what about those of us that actually enjoy slogging through Qwerty-rants. Why, yes, I do have a rather warped sense of fun. Thank you for noticing. I do think that Tango needs to be nominated as I think I finally understand why people actually like and do that dance. And I cannot BELIEVE Janette and Jason were booted off, especially so early....To me, they were the top 3 with Kayla... However, I'm really happy for Jeanine - she's a fabulous dancer and from the chitter chatter a really kind person... I really hope they do a "Best of SYTYCD" DVD...I hope they put most all of Katie's (from the previous season) dances on there. I found it interesting that the judges actually put a group dance in their favourites. They agree with us? My favourite dances (assuming I didn't forget any and in no particular order): Partner Dances: Brandon & Janette (Wade Robson) "Thief" Jazz (I think the only reason this wasn't in the finale is that it needs the stairs. Combined with Ramalama, Robson uses the stairs better than anyone else) Jason & Kayla (Shane Sparks) "Zombie" Hip Hop. Kayla and Kupono (Mia Michaels) "Addiction" Contemporary Brandon & Janette (Miriam & Leonardo) Argentine Tango -with regards to Emmy noms. This season is up against season 6! That will be rough! Randi & Evan (Mia Michaels) "Butt Dance" Contemporary Jeanine & Brandon (Louis van Amstel) "Matrix" Paso Doble Caitlin & Jason (Nakool) Bollywood Kupono & Ashley (Wade Robson) "Crash Test Dummies" Contemporary Group dances: Top 10 Performance "Chinese" (Wade Robson) Top 5 Guys Performance "African Dance" Top 5 Gals Performance Bollywood (Nakool) Top 3 Guys (Sonya Tayeh) - I was very impressed with how each guy could do the same gymnastic tricks - standing back flips, etc. Brandon and Evan in the guy final 2 show both did in sync jumps to their feet from their backs. Great stuff. Top 16 Calle Ocho (NappyTabs + Chaplin) nice to see fusion like that. Top 18. Mia Michaels. Solos: Brandon's audition/top 6. Jeanine's last few weeks.
