I just rewatched Lost and have some time to post my thoughts. Emy – I could just ditto everything you said! Ben’s reaction to everyone getting blown up on the boat was chilling, but not unexpected. He is a great actor, so is Sun. She was amazingly realistic after the boat blew up and her dejected demeanor on Penny’s boat was spot on. I still wonder how much more Daniel knows about the island than he lets on or if he’s been there before. His character is a nervous-nellie, but he seemed really agitated to be there. Ever the optimist, my guess is that both Daniel and the boat and Jin got sucked into the island’s orbit and will end up back on the island. Seeing Penny and Desmond reunite gave me the chills. I hope we see the same with Sun and Jin at the end of the series. Here are some other things I noticed – some themes for next season:
Kate things Bentham is crazy but Jack now believes him (the whole Man of Faith versus Man of Science theme between the two of them).
Locke kept talking about destiny (it was their destiny to come to the island) – Why do they need to be there? He also talked about miracles (Kate also said Aaron surviving the helicopter crash was a miracle). Another theme that we’ll see in the next two seasons.
Rose busting on Miles for eating the peanuts: “I’m going to keep my eye on you Shorty.” Are Rose (and Bernard) going to have a bigger role next year on the island now that the Oceanic 6 is off?
I wasn’t sure about Frank, Daniel, Miles and Charlotte early on in the season, but now I think their stories will be interesting additions. Miles ghost-busting talents are fun and I want to know how Charlotte fits in on the island (she definitely recognized the Dharma logo on the polar bear fossil).
One thing that bothers me is the shear number of people that Sayid has assassinated. Who are these people – are they all associated with Widmore? This little war between the Losties and the Others has gone global between Widmore and Ben. Several episodes ago I wasn’t crazy about all the off island shenanigans, but the way the finale brought all the pieces together was awesome. I can’t wait to see how Sun works with Widmore against Ben .
How freaky was Claire appearing to Kate: "Don’t bring him back."
And Ben is always lying! He said whoever moves the island can never go back, but in the funeral parlor he tells Jack, “We’re going to have to bring him too. Even though Ben is working with the Oceanic 6, I don’t expect him to ever fully be the good guy!
I thought the finale was great. It answered some questions and laid out a whole bunch of great stories for next year.
*moan* Eight months to wait!!!
