"TV Show vs. Birth of Child"
I think that if I were Jim, I would have wanted to be home for the birth of my baby. How would you like to have to tell your daughter that you weren't at her birth because you were on a reality TV show. (and not even a very good one). The Donald would probably have flown him to see the baby and mom. I hope after missing this, it is worth it for him, but I would say that things don't look good for Jim.

I agree !
I feel bad for his wife that she had to do that alone.
He went there fully knowing her due date.

The Donald and Martha are looking for people who will put their careers over family and it looks like this is one guy who will do just that. NOTHING is more important than family! I would rather live in a cardboard box with a loving family and my husband with me than living in a mansion where I never see him because he's working 80 hours a week climbing the corporate ladder... Guess I'll never be rich! Thank goodness!

I could never miss the birth of my baby, well for one obvious reason. But still if my husband didn't pull through for me and be there, things would icky when he got home.

I guess Martha wasn't as thoughtful as the Donald. Whatshisname got sent home for the funeral, but as soon as Jim's wife went into labour he couldn't leave to be there for her?

I guess Miss Martha doesn't have her own corporate jet like the Donald does...

I'm still trying to envision what that conversation must have been like. Certainly, the mother of his child could have kept him from going if she wanted to. My guess is that the casting call was held while she was only 4 or 5 months pregnant and she somehow convinced herself that it wouldn't be so bad to go through it without him. Maybe this is their second child and she knows how to deal with it?

Of course, they and their child will regret this for decades to come: "You weren't even there when I was born!"

A Cyggie siggie!

If you had a husband like Jim, would you want him in the room with you while you were in labor? I mean for normal people of course it would be horrible to miss the birth of your child, but now that we have gotten to know Jim I think maybe his wife didnt want him there!

I was thinking the same thing, why miss the birth of your child, when he might not even win this. Plus they don't even get to rub elbows with Martha. They only see her for the task assignment and then at the conference room. Also, everyone remember that the Donald is also a producer of this show.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Can you imagine going out to dinner with Martha Stewart? I'd be terrified that I'd spill something on the tablecloth, or ruin a centrepiece, and she'd look at me and say "you don't fit in - goodbye". Just the thought of it is enough to inspire nightmares.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!! I've been in the delivery room twice, if I had to do that with jacked up, hyper boy I'd probably strangle him....

Then again, this woman did procreate with him....(everyone for a collective scream?)

Hate to be an Anti-Hippie, Anti-emotional, traditionalist, but when I was born, I was lucky if my Father spent ten minutes pacing in the waiting room to catch a glimpse of his hours late, perfectly swaddled newborn.

In other words, get over that "new-age" tolerence crap, and realize that Jim did what he had to do, without griping, to best support his family. In my book, that gets the Frank Sinatra, "I did it my way" real man award.
