LAST EDITED ON 09-24-13 AT 04:55 PM (EST)If they're willing to spend the money to have some Avengers guest star once in awhile, maybe have Fury show up a couple of times, the show has a built in youth audience. Generation gaps across the country are going to be fighting for the remote with Agents opposite NCIS. I expect they'll move it at some point. CBS is certainly spending wildly. Janney show on Monday, it was actually kind of lame. Mork and Buffy as lead-ins trying to save 2 and a Joan Men. Mike & Molly in the back-up position Rules previously held. And of course the mother of all seasons for HIMYM, every guest star they can possibly bring back this year. Two half-hours in and they still haven't named the Mother! Oh well. Refused to watch Hostages.

It's the premise of the show that disinterested me, I just didn't care to give it a try. I'm fine with it being not bad, it still isn't anything I want to watch.

I tried to watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I gave up after a few cliche'd minutes. I also tried The Goldbergs. That lasted about a minute and a half. I went to do other stuff, but forgot to turn the TV off. Sweetie walked into the TV room, and it wasn't long before I heard, "What is this crap?"

I too tried to watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and gave up after 7 minutes (I have a low threshold). Was thinking of giving The Goldbergs a try but missed it. Glad I did. Not sure what else to try in the Fall lineup.

Hey Dan, s'up?I liked the Agents of Shield. For a person unfamiliar with the other versions and unknowing of the basic premise (that's me) it was a bit murky, something about good gods fighting bad gods, and we never get to see either. I think. But Clark Gregg was entertaining in his role, and a long time crush Colby Smuthers (the only reason I used to occasionally watch HIMYM) was there. The Fitz-Simmons duo was entertaining and funny. The writing successfully (IMO) walked the fine line between snarky funny and over the top smaltz. I'd like to see (and understand) more in the way of their world setting, but I trust Joss Whedon to deliver. I'm a big fan of his because of Firefly, the best dam TV show that there ever was. So, I like it, and it’s on my DVR list. Which usually is the kiss of death for a show. shhhhh! I stole this from Tribe and I ain't gonna give it back.

With The Crazy Ones... given the leads and a prime timeslot, I personally think it can hang on for its full first season and possibly get renewed -- or would if not for one issue. It's a David E. Kelley production. So it's not so much that I'm waiting for it to die as I'm patiently hanging on to see how long it takes before I actively wish for it.The estrogen bit on BBT just annoyed me. Personally, I'm waiting on the inevitable pregnancy. (Bernadette. Who else?) As for 2.5 Rating Share... Charlie's back! Only now he's a 25-year-old lesbian who happens to be his own daughter! Good luck with that. Although I sense they did just pick up Kingfish.

Didn't work for me, the entire show centered on Robin Williams mugging for the camera, and I just didn't find it amusing.Williams aside the plot could have been written on the back of an old fag packet and just looked flabby and lazy, the writers seem to have thought "Leave it to Robin, he was great in Mork and Mindy", but not realised that was 30 years ago now.

For very obvious reasons, DH & I have been awaiting this one.Did anyone watch? If part of the purpose is to garner awareness of Parkinson's Disease, I hope they figure out a way to let the public know that PD affects those who have it in many different ways. For example, DH's 'walk' doesn't look like MJF. MJF walked more bow-legged or something. Also, he didn't have any episodes of "freezing" which if his meds keep that away, good for him! Also DH doesn't move his head all around like MJF was doing. That looked really strange! That may be part of his normal expressive movement (like some people use their hands to talk?) and it is magnified by the PD. The lack of blinking (if you noticed that) is shared by almost every PD patient. The story line was odd - or should I say the lack of a story line. But maybe as the show progresses, it will make more sense. I think they were establishing the "set" so to speak. We'll continue to watch; if only to understand more ourselves. And, .... If any of you have a few $$ and need to make a charitable contribution? MJF or The National Parkinson's Disease Foundation

Indeed. What I particularly love about this show is pretty much every i is dotted and every t is crossed by the end of the show, almost nothing is left hanging as a throw-away piece. There's a reason behind every single thing we've seen since Episode 1.By contrast, I was quite frustrated with LOST in particular because there were so many loose ends and more questions being raised than answers in the final seasons, it just became so convoluted. With 'Breaking Bad', it's completely engrossing right to the end, and we know there's going to be a resolution to many storylines on Sunday. I've been fascinated with the storyline of Walter White going from meek chem teacher to Heisenberg while also showing glimpses of the old Walt from time to time (it's still being debated if that was Heisenberg or if that was ol' Walt on that phone call with Skyler with DEA listening in), and likewise, have been interested in the Jesse storyline with his struggle between compassion and the meth way of life. Agreed, that Gray Matter thing at the very end of the most recent episode was out of left field, and it was great, keeping the story moving quickly after a bit of a lull with the bits about setting up his life in New Hampshire. I look forward to the wrap-up including the "Hello, Carol" moment again.

LAST EDITED ON 09-27-13 AT 08:43 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 09-27-13 AT 07:04 PM (EST) Agree they are good at tying up loose ends. Love it. Looking forward to where they will take us. Never been disappointed with this show but noticed 2 things that were amiss from its usual pristine editing/filming/writing. During the shootout they clearly showed Walt loosing his glasses but at the beginning of the next epi, same shootout and Walt's glasses were intact. Loved the scene with creepy Ricky Hitler in baby Holly's room, but since when are there sliding doors in her room? Am I wrong? Did I miss something? Am I just too obssessed? Maybe. Still think Lost should have ended a whole season earlier. I would have been less disappointed with the ending being the whiteout -- let us imagine what we will. I know nobody agrees with me but I was sooo disappointed after obsessing over this show for so long.

I have a whole list of shows to watch this weekend. I am usually in bed by 9 - sometimes a little earlier these days Sunday - Thursday. I Tivo almost everything and watch it on Friday/Saturdays. That way I can flip through without commercials. I try to make exceptions for football and baseball if it's a good game. The only new shows I've seen are The Goldbergs and Hostages. I wasn't impressed with The Goldbergs. I'm negotiating with myself on Hostages, though Dylan McDermott makes a strong case to stick it out. I'm just happy to have my regular shows back this week like Parenthood, Modern Family, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods, CSI and The Good Wife. And Parenthood gets a full season. Even better. I missed the in-jokes.I missed Samuel Jackson (he was there? are we talking about the same episode, with the chase thru the Peruvian jungle from the Mayan pyramid (???) to their plane?). (I did watch it, however, and was watching and comparing to Firefly. Which, oddly and in a different universe, it resembles. It misses the boat there, doesn't have the humanistic approach or (IMO) the cast talent (no Kylie - sad), although what they have isn't dreadful. Somewhat formulaic too, for an action adventure, one crisis solved immediately followed by another, and another, ad infinitum. I am somewhat disappointed after the second episode, but not pushed out yet either.

79. "RE: 2013 Fall TV Season." |
LAST EDITED ON 10-12-13 AT 08:41 AM (EST)For those who watched Once Upon a Time and liked it, the idea of spinning Wonderland into a new web of hookah smoke probably appealed to you, or at least convinced you to give this new show a shot. It's a spin off ... but not really because Wonderland was unaffected by the Evil Queen’s curse. However, the manly sidekick Knave of Hearts ended up in Storybook with the Mad Hatter because they both fled Wonderland and Cora, the Queen of Hearts. Because of this, the first scene involves Knave almost getting run over by Emma's VW on Main Street and passing Cinderella and Grumpy at Granny’s before being taken out of Storybrooke through the portal power of the White Rabbit. A total toss-away scene so viewers know these two unconnected shows are mildly connected. This is followed by back story involving a father who sends his daughter off to the insane asylum because she keeps “disappearing” for long periods of time and yammering on about a love interest named Cyrus. She’s now old enough to leave, but her doctor wants to do a lobotomy so she can forget her pain, her name, and a horrible costume. Fortunately the Knave of Hearts and the White Rabbit show up to rescue her and take her back to Wonderland. Once there, more back story. The Geni from Aladdin is no Robin Williams, but the hunky true love of Alice. A Regina/Rumple style power play brews stagnates between the Red Queen and Jafar, followed by a creepy cat, an equally creepy caterpillar, a blackmailed white rabbit, a wanted outlaw knave of hearts, a flying carpet without any personality, and the quest for Alice to find her true love before Iago or the Aflak duck shows up. Oh, and to keep Jafar from getting his hands on her three wishes. At least, that appears to be the premise from the pilot. If you watch OUAT and you have seen Hook and wondered where his hair went, it flew off of his head and landed on Jafar. But Jafar is still a great villain who knows how to act and use his snake scepter. The Red Queen, however, is a different story. If she is supposed to be threatening, intimidating, and a bad-azz, she isn't because you are too busy watching her impossibly inflated botoxed lips combine with perpetual duck face to notice. She tries to be mean, and all you can think about is how she can possibly deliver her lines through those swollen lips. You get past the lips, and you suddenly realize that she can’t ACT. And this plastic blowup doll is supposed to intimidate and keep Jafar in line? I don’t think so. It’s rather plain to see that someone knew someone who begged someone to use his girlfriend in the show. However, this being the Once universe, perhaps they can come up with a queen to rip out her heart and usurp power from duckface before they are cancelled. I didn’t like it. I have found that I’m not alone. If they don’t figure out that special effects can’t cover up the bad acting it won’t last very long. Quickie sidenote; everyone seems to be able to find portals in and out of Storybrooke/the Enchanted Forest/Neverland/Wonderland etc. EXCEPT the actual citizens of the town.

Just to mention: I saw a small part of that Rachael Vs. Guy Vs. Something Else Must Be On latest celebrity cooking challenge edition and have good news to report: despite the best efforts of the genre to par back, we once again have a class of 'celebrity' whose only purpose is to appear on reality shows. Check out this lineup.Judy Gold Florence Henderson Penn Jillette Chris Kattan Jake Pavelka Tiffany Vanilla Ice Herschel Walker Well, Penn's just there to amuse himself, but the rest... how many series between them, exactly? Incidentally, Jake never mentioned Famous Food. One presumes the lawsuits are ongoing. He also got his shirt off within the first hour. One presumes he knows what's keeping him on the air. Chris Kattan? Still annoying. And probably hasn't learned to play poker yet.

All is not Lost...Sawyer Josh Holloway with a chip in his head rather than on his shoulder. They had me at Josh Holloway anyway.
tv.com says"Intelligence isn't a bad show, in fact, it's exactly the kind of entertainment that CBS has made a fortune on: Good guys knocking the turbans off of bad guys, basically. And if we look at Intelligence from that angle, it's exactly as expected and a perfectly fine way to spend an hour of time in front of the television. It has the star we all want to see in Holloway, it has babes for all ages in Meghan Ory and Marg Helgenberger, it has fancy computer graphics and techy mumbo-jumbo to assist high-stakes operations, and most importantly, it has Holloway punching and shooting bad guys." While I'm having a Lost moment... Sayed Naveen Andrews popped up on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland speaking in his native English accent. I'm not much for the show but he's attired all medieval and that English accent is enough for me while I gaze at the frozen wasteland outside.
Corrupting teenage boys since, well, none of your business how long...

I am not saying any kind of goodbye to Jay Leno because:1. It would be more of a 'That's enough: get out.' 2. I refuse to believe he's actually leaving. Remember: we've done this before. He is Really Caucasian Randy Jackson. Years after making anyone believe he was actually contributing, rumors of firing and replacements and pictures of his being shoved out the door -- none of it matters, because please welcome our new Tonight Show Mentor! We won't be fooled again...

Foolishly, I will hold out hope, not that it makes much difference, they are (supposedly) replacing him with Fallon. Not an improvement. Not anything. An nonentity filled dead hour. He's (Leno) is just not funny or original anymore. One might argue that he used to be funny (sort of) but he has never been original. Only props I can give him are that his old car shows are entertaining. Letterman is a once was, but ain't nomore. He's stale and should retire. Ferguson stinks. How has he lasted? Kimmel and Conan are the only ones with real comedy and (esp Conan) originality.

It says hereLove Sean Hayes, but the show was a) far too clichéd, and b) not at all funny Love Michael J Fox, when the show started it was a sitcom about Parkinsons and wasn't funny, however it had evolved into a clichéd family sitcom, and I thought quite a good one, not going to set the world on fire but a pleasant way of wasting 22 minutes. Sad to see it go.
One of my other claims to fame is that I actually met Michael J Fox once in Venice airport just before Back to the Future came out. I was on a cruise with my parents and had chummed up with some Americans and when they went across to say how much they enjoyed him in Family ??? I went with them.

120. "RE: Fallon takes over: Colbert wins" |
The sequence I saw through Mediaite had a number of A-Listers -- for about fifteen seconds each. Stay tuned for the Colbert bit at the end.http://www.mediaite.com/tv/fallon-taps-rolodex-for-massive-cameo-filled-segment-featuring-everyone-from-lady-gaga-to-colbert/ Getting some high-end talent in order to lure in first-time viewers during a launch week is normal for just about any talk show: Fallon is being done no favor which wouldn't be offered by another network, although the others would have worked with a higher budget. As for your opinion of his skills -- I can't agree just because I haven't seen enough of him to judge. But with Leno, NBC went with comedy's lowest common denominator. And it wouldn't surprise me to see those shoes filled by the soggiest socks available. I'll give him a chance. But the bar is set about two millimeters above the ground.

“Last Man Standing” has some pretty sharp comedy. It is a sit-com, but Tim Allen is a solid performer, and Nancy Travis is still very watchable and comedic as are the actresses that play his kids, one of which, Kaitlyn Dever as Eve, shows different (but exceptional) acting chops on "Justified". There is also Hector Elizondo as Ed, normally a serious actor but showing exceptional comedic talents on this show. I also recommend highly the aforementioned "Justified", with Timothy Oliphant and based on a Leonard Elmore story. This is (for me) a must record show., and is along the lines of "Deadwood" in intensity, and also starred Oliphant. If you haven’t been following “Justified”, and liked “Deadwood”, you should try it out. And even think about ordering previous seasons (3 I think) of “Justified”.

Most of the sit-coms could be dropped, IMO. I still like BBT. I started off liking 2 Broke Girls, but their jokes have become too predictable and really not very funny, and some of the regulars just aren't funny either. The blond in particular (Beth something) tries too hard and is just not a comic talent, but Jennifer Coolidge (great talent normally, and who can be seriously hilarious in other roles) is ridiculous on that show, and the polish cook is just stupid. I like Garret Morris (mainly out of nostalgia) and Kat Dennings is great. And Two and a Half Men back again? Really? Seriously? And Undercover Boss? How long will it be before people catch on that that new guy with the camera crew could be their boss? I mean, this is shown on national TV, surely someone will catch on. And the repeated teary scenarios get old. Bleah. I still watch the Tim Allen show, Tim has honed his comic chops and it shows, he’s great. They have great (the best, IMO) writing, as well as superior acting and comic talent. Even bland old Nancy Travis holds up her end admirably. Even the fringe characters are fun. Just a show worth watching. But aside from that show and BBT, please, just wipe the sit-com board and start over. I am in awe of the monumentally great job that Johnny Miller does in pulling off the Sherlock Holmes character, and of the deft adaptation that the creators did bringing that story to contemporary life in New York. And especially of turning Lucy Liu into Watson. The stuffy pipe smoking English gentleman that Conan Doyle created was perfect for London, but would not translate to 2014 New York. Brilliant. Great show.

Unfortunately, this is the very reason nobody seems to "catch on." They know if they give a sob story and suck up, they will probably get called to the reveal and get some money!
Alarmingly masterful tribal creation *I wonder what the best sob story could be in order to get the most cash?

I know it happens most years, however it seems to me that this year has been particularly bad for interruptions, the Skye & Fitzsimmonds show seems to be on a completely random schedule, and as for TBBT who knows which weeks it will be on? Is it any wonder series fail when the last episode was so long ago you need the full Biggest Loser reprise to remind you what the heck is going on.However I think we have a winner. Series 2 of Perception (I watch it for the Levar Burton)... It was 14 episodes long Season premiere June 25, 2013, Season finale March 18, 2014. Nine months for fourteen epidodes, dashed silly if you ask me. Oh and by the way if you take a six month gap between episodes (I'm looking at you Eureka and Warehouse 13) then it isn't a "continuation" it's a new series. Grrrr honorary mention series four of Warehouse 13, 20 episodes, first one broadcast July 23, 2012, last one July 8, 2013. Dashed ridiculous.

146. "Two shows" |
1. Bletchley Park. Understated dialog, almost somnolent, and unflashy to the max. Very authentic characters and a very authentic seeming early 50's setting. So very British. What sets this show apart is the premise, four ladies that had been part of the famous and brilliant top secret British code breaking team at Bletchley Park, ten years later after having had resumed their roles as housewives and low level professionals (secretaries etc.), now almost accidently getting involved in solving crimes. What an intelligent premise. The only problem that I can see for the writers (aside from keeping the audience awake) is coming up with plots worthy of these ladies. Slow, plodding, typically British, and brilliant. 2. Those That kill. Chloë Sevigny. This show has to be seen to be believed, he lead actor (Chloe Sevigny) is just unreal. Great supporting cast, great writing, great in just about every category, but Chloe is just amazing.

This is the first year I've watched full episodes of the show, and I just wanted to go on the record with something:They pick the stupidest reasons for people to go serial killer. The show proposes that the human psyche is so fragile that pretty much anything will turn people into mass murdersrs. Anything at all. Went on gambling winning streak: must kill to keep the luck going. Got cut off in traffic: must murder every police office who didn't arrest the offending driver. Believes in organic food: must kidnap men and use their bodies as fertilizer. Saw people in line at a coffee shop: decided fate had chosen them to die. Favorite restaurant changed their menu: clearly everyone responsible must be inhumed. I only made two of those up. At least, I think I did. I may have just missed those actual episodes. Watch too many episodes and if you find yourself waiting at the bank while the person ahead of you insists on counting the contents of their just-acquired change rolls just in case the machine made a mistake, you start wondering just how many customers around you are going to go on murder sprees over it. It's not badly-acted. The writing tends towards mediocre outside the main character interactions. But the premise is trying to extinct sharks.

Line of the year.Having trouble with Garrett's Start Of Darkness, though. And even with Hydra agents everywhere, how do you justify getting through a decade or two of medical exams without ever once having the hardware spotted? How about airports? Security station checks? Beach metal detectors? We'll see how it ends next week. Whedon's not above killing two main characters, so I'm not holding out much hope for Fitz or Simmons. Beyond that... ABC is supposedly developing Agent Carter for next season, giving them a Marvel power block. Better than pairing this with The Goldbergs.

It is, in a word, odious.Basically, this is a takeoff on Joe Millionaire. The producers (including a little Pure Evil) found someone with a strong resemblance to the prince and used makeup to close the remaining gap. They then took twelve very stereotypical dating show contestants, mostly chosen in the hopes that no one would feel sorry for them, and flew them to the UK. Then the producers brought in "Harry". And let the women believe they were fighting over the real thing. The main entertainment is watching them play the Let's Not Get Sued game. "Harry" never speaks his name. Neither does anyone else. They bring in security and paparazzi and all the trappings, then just let the contestants make assumptions -- so that any conclusions they reach are presumed to legally be their own fault. And of course, the winner gets to lose when "Harry" reveals who he truly is. The actor who did this has said he has no regrets, which tells you a lot about that personality. The people who created it... created it, and that pretty much says it all. And the network which broadcast it? FOX, which sums any remainders up. Genuinely sickening show. Happily, Storage Wars just started back up.
