"Zap2it episode 1 description" |
LAST EDITED ON 02-25-02 AT 01:35 PM (EST)http://tv.zap2it.com/news/networkupdate.html?24080 Meet the New Castaways on the Premiere of "SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS" on CBS (2/28/02) Fri, Feb 22, 2002 02:03 PM PDT "Back To The Beach" -- 16 new castaways will be divided into two tribes of eight, Rotu (Rain) and Maraamu (Wind), as they vie to become the "Ultimate Survivor" on SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS, premiering Thursday, Feb. 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS will strand 16 Americans on the remote island of Nuku Hiva, a distant neighbor of Tahiti, in the South Pacific. With no food, water or matches provided this time, these castaways must work as a team to survive, while also attempting to outwit, outplay and outlast each other to win the $1 million prize. In the premiere episode, Maraamu's Sean, the schoolteacher from Harlem, keeps his sense of humor while acknowledging that he's truly a fish-out-of-water in such a remote environment. Over at Rotu's camp, members of the tribe are annoyed by one person's attitude and anxiety. Meantime, romantic possibilities are quick to bloom among certain individuals. And the first person is voted out of the tribe. SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS is produced by SEG, Inc. Mark Burnett is executive produ And Bebo thoughts: - Sounds like they're trying to set up Sean as this week's Clarence, getting us to wonder when he's going to be voted out. Could also refer to the religious conflict that has been mentioned in interviews. Then again, a sense of humor has proved to be a valuable asset in the past for sticking around.
edited to take out my Rotu/Peter thought, since I had him in the wrong tribe

Actually, Peter is in Maraamu, so he can't be the one they are talking about.

I find it odd that Sean is the only member that is mentioned by name in this review. Hell, they are all going to be fish out of water in this place, why is he the only one mentioned? I am sure this means nothing, but it is the only piece of this whole article that I find of interest.

In the most recent Challenge Pics Sean is in the front of the proigue canoe and appears to have fallen. Maybe Sean is referring to that situation.

Would they actually be so bold to give us the bootee upfront like that? It IS odd they'd mention Sean by name and nobody else in this description.Actually, Sean fits several rumours and spoilers we've heard so far: Sean falls with the pirogue - perhaps he lets the tribe down? Sean laughs it off by saying he's like a fish out of water - shows he's got an attitude worth getting booted for? Sean preaches one too many times from his Bible -- creating a little religious dissension as we've supposedly heard. Sean doesn't see eye to eye with someone when it comes to a racial point (either by him or to him from someone else) -- also a rumour that we've heard elsewhere of racial dissension. It all *may* add up to this: Sean gets his ass booted in the first episode.

The "fish out of water" in a place surrounded by water, is the person rumored not to be able to swim...Sean is that person, and from the sound of it, is a good sport when he gets teased about it.The focus on Sean may mean that his inability to swim has something to do with his tribes loss in the first challenge, but I'm convinced he's safe in EP1. I don't remember where I read this.. but I remember that somewhere it said that Vecepia and Sean stick together early on in the game. I know that isn't very helpful considering I don't remember where I read this, but if that's the case... I don't think Sean will be the first voted out. Besides, they really do need Sean for the challenges.. Unless Sean REALLY messes up, I don't really see him going anywhere. If Sean and Vecepia do stick together.. it really isn't too hard to get two other people to stick with them to form a quick alliance.. plus vecepia's a survivor fan.. she knows it's important to form an alliance quickly.. she's likely to bond with the only other African American person in her tribe. Remember.. Gervase and Ramona were the first ever Survivor alliance.

9. "RE: The fish who can't swim..." |
Yes, Ramona and Gervase (the non-swimmer) made a pact in S1 that they would never vote for each other; if Vecepia and Sean make a similar pact simply because they are of the same race, that could be a mistake. I'm not saying that Vecepia and Sean cannot be a strong team together, I simply don't know yet, but rather that partnerships and alliances based on superficialities such as race, gender, age, religion or so on are not soundly based. Good partnerships and alliances in Survivor seek to combine positives in order to negate negatives, the Tagi alliance in S1 is the great example of this as Richard's cunningness, Rudy's loyalty, Sue's work ethic, and Kelly's youthful energy combined to negate for Richard's pushing his luck, Rudy's reserve, Sue's brash tactlessness, and Kelly's immaturity. Vecepia and Sean could have a strong partnership, that remains to be seen, but if it is simply race-based they are probably doomed.I also think Sean being the sole one mentioned is an indicator that he is not the first boot, but is someone to watch.

10. "The Rotu person" |
Doesn't the reaction described at Rotu, with a person who is ticking everyone off, seem a lot like the reaction that we expected that Robert, who was given the seemingly-derogatory nickname "The General" by his fellow castaways, would generate?

11. "I agree" |
Robert, from what little we've seen, would seem to be taking a dominant attitude in Rotu, and this may work for him if he turns out to be a valuable member of the tribe, resourceful and/or an athletic assett in the challenges. My impression so far, however, is that he is a blowhard, and out of shape, and may only be tolerated as long as he has to be tolerated. Hard to say at this point, not having seen the tribal interactions, but the first two boots may be men this time, Peter and Robert.

LAST EDITED ON 02-26-02 AT 12:28 PM (EST)I'm convinced by all the evidences that Peter's gonna be the first boot and I think Sean is just highlighted because his fall in the IC resulted in the loss of the Maraamu tribe. Looking at the IC clips (kinda new at posting so I can't post the clip here), it was shown that Sean fell in the water and it looked as if that Gina, who was standing behind Sean, let go of the pirogue and tried to help Sean up which may have cost them the challenge. I can imagine a scenario where Peter blamed Gina for the loss (the post-challenge clip where the drenched Maraamu was walking back and Gina looked like she was having an argument with Peter) and all this was due to Sean falling on the IC, which was why he was highlighted. (Hopefully spoiling S3 has improved my ability to crack the "Burnett-Code"). "Over at Rotu's camp, members of the tribe are annoyed by one person's attitude and anxiety". I don't think it's Robert because the article specifically mentioned "anxiety". The attitude part may cost him points but he doesn't look like someone who is over-anxious. The person they referred to in Rotu is probably Kathy-- I'm basing my theory on the clip with Paschal trying to put a hand on her mouth coz he was so sick of her being so anxious all of the time. I think he was trying to get her to shut up coz that doesn't look like a friendly gesture to me. Look for Kathy getting the first boot from Rotu at a later episode and I think this matches the rumor of her sightings at Losers Lodge.
Hopefully I guessed right
