First, I'm not HawkEye. While the University of Iowa sports teams are indeed the Hawkeyes, I wouldn't use this name. I might have used Buckeye, because I went to OSU ... but then so did Tam ... uh, one of the people no longer on this board.>>>HawkEye's impersonating someone with above-average intelligence and literacy skills.

>>>Either that, or it's someone from Iowa--is that the Hawkeye State? It's the home of the Iowa State Hawkeyes, anyway. Look for a big-time college sports fan?
My first thought for HawkEye was the James Fenimore Cooper stories (and yes, I've read Twain's essay "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses" -- another reason why I wouldn't use the name).
Unlike Buckeye, Hawkeye is a common term for someone who sees things that others cannot -- a logical term for a good spoiler to apply to himself or herself. I don't think there is a sports connection.
I also don't think HawkEye is impersonating someone with literacy skills and a knowledge of spoilers --- I think HawkEye is such a person.
