PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

I've been thinking for a while about what I would say here.I was leaning towards a total anticlimax, which is why I deliberately went for that trope this morning. Do something so complete mundane that it automatically laughed off the big round number. Pull an OOTS and spend the post riding down a virtual elevator listening to bad music. Or do the Dilbert bit: fear the big round number, for it's big and round. But mostly just thinking about completely ignoring it. (And by the way, the Indy shoots the swordsman bit? That's filed under Serendipity Writes The Plot. Harrison Ford had a serious case of dysentery on that shooting day and the script called for him to whip the sword away. It was too much for him to handle, so he asked if he could just shoot the guy instead. Cinema was born.) Or there was the Special Thread. Ask me any question and I'll give you a really vague answer! How about we recruit some sigpics from ages past and have a temporal ghost party? Gee, here's all ourselves from our first days of posting: see how much we haven't learned? And then there was the number routine, just searching down any image attached to 50,000 and throwing them all up. I gave very brief consideration to randomly recapping something for no apparent reason. But then I saw what was going on in the 50k-members thread. The commentary. The pictures that were being pulled out. Most of the word usage. And after going through all that, I realized there were only a few things which really needed to be said. And so without further ado: I hate pretty much every last stinking one of you. I am plotting the deaths of roughly half. Two of you are going before anyone else. It will hurt. Jerks. Run.

Congratulations Estee!I can't say that I've read all your posts but I remember a great many that were comical, imaginative, thought-provoking and generally very creative. The first F'ed Up Final Four was outstanding and the finale between Survivor and TAR was brilliant. I do hope you've found a more remunerative venue for all that creativity that us here at RTVW. I look forward to several thousand more posts. -stan

42. "ESTEE, The Narrator" |
LAST EDITED ON 02-22-12 AT 07:26 PM (EST) As a tribute to the only known RTVW poster who has achieved the lofty status of 50,000 posts, to our oldest poster post-wise, I propose that we identify the ESTEE Trope. It could have been called the "The Narrator", but it isn't, it's the ESTEE. Danggummit.
Specifically to OT, the ESTEE is the androgynous (his/her gender is never been reliably established, and it doesn't really matter) character that illuminates and enhances every interesting thread, calling "BS" where "BS" is "BS", and a gruff "not too bad" when a compliment is due. In general, the same applies to everyone whose stories enter his/her life. In addition, the ESTEE's strength of spirit quietly emboldens others to exercise latent talents in wit and in fearlessness. He/she leads from behind by the example of being behind. Typically, as is the case with our Estee, the ESTEE begins his/her story as a street waif, a child of tragedy knowing little of her parents and raised by an aunt who because of her own tragic life is embittered and tyrannical. Various "uncles" are also involved who influence his/her sexual life (insert a tragic wink wink here). The story of the ESTEE depicts a life of struggle against his/her perception as an unfavored child that has to excel in school, on the street, and on the playground just to be noticed. And he/she never gets the acknowledgement he/she feels he/she deserves. Driven to be noticed, he/she is not averse to trying the wild side of life including alcohol, drugs, sex, graphic novels, and Anime. Fortunately for her talent his/her early experiences with drink and drugs is searing and dramatic and cauterizes that part of her brain to the point that he/she develops a mental phobia and he/she cannot support further experimentation without extreme discomfort. So no alcohol, no drugs. Mainly, just sex, graphic novels, Coke(-a-cola), and Anime are her vices. Her fish abuse could be considered a vice, but the audience is inclined to be forgiving, indeed, everyone but the fish actually encourages and participates in this abuse. Everyone. (sigh) The ESTEE is befriended at an early age by an eccentric and very quietly brilliant neighbor who, because of his/her isolation is regarded as a neighborhood wacko. In reality this neighbor really is pretty wacky and does do oddball things, but these stunts are always accompanied by upbeat music and the ESTEE is always laughing and giggling while watching (and sometimes participating in) them, and so are rendered amusingly and pleasingly eccentric. And it is because of this gentle though crusty soul that the ESTEE finds his/herself and achieves a kind of stability that will allow him/her to take advantage of innate talents while at the same time allowing him/her to spit in the face of hypocrisy and false superiority. The ESTEE evolves from a troubled upbringing to a stable life, typically he/she lives with two dogs, a Rottweiler that he/she keeps chained to her porch to discourage BS artists, and a purse dog she feeds slippers and keeps in a closet for a friend that has no awareness of boundaries. His/her favorite past time is to go fly fishing in breathtakingly beautiful and little known melt fed streams the back country of Oregon. Interestingly, her idea of recycling is to feed her garbage to the neighborhood raccoons. He/she loves parades, Coke(-a-cola) and chocolate, and except for the tendency to abuse fish and the occasional gambling binge, has vices no to speak of. Well, she does jokingly claim to have a hit list. Ha ha. (Ha ha?) As an adult, the ESTEE becomes both the person who those who know him/her and are thus in awe of her talents would most wish to write and deliver their eulogy when the time comes, as well as the person most likely to arrange that time. As both Max and Fooner, currently living in the government witness protection program, can well attest. There it is, the ESTEE trope. A superb example (if I may say so) of a misconceived trope. And, of course, a complete fiction involving Estee herself. Except for the good parts which, although also technically fictional, I believe are essentially correct. And the fish and beach crab abuse, which can be documented. The SNIDGET trope is next, possibly followed by, among a few others, the DABO. Never to be revealed is the GRIT or the FOONERMINT, the first because of the PG13 limitations of the board, and the second because of national security and the dam Democrats.
