LAST EDITED ON 02-10-06 AT 02:16 PM (EST)Ok, I have now seen INXS as they were just here in Detroit on Wednesday.
While, there are somethings I agree with the original poster I have to disagree with much of it.
First, off for my show and the setlists I have seen for other shows INXS is not playing the entire new album with about 6 classics thrown in. Here was the set list for my show and others have used a similar set list. There were FIVE new songs.
Suicide Blonde . New Sensation . Devil's Party . Mystify . Disappear . By My Side . Afterglow . Taste It . Original Sin . Hungry . Never Let You Go . What You Need . Need You Tonight . Kick . Devil Inside . Pretty Vegas . Encore: The Stairs . Never Tear Us Apart . Don't Change
So that is 14 classics and 5 new songs. The set was one hour and a half.
About JD being given freedom to be JD. I disagree with that also. JD was allowed to be JD on my show. Infact you mention that he never went into the crowd. Actually JD and Marty both went into the crowd once. Marty went all the way to the back. JD tried but he was getting mobbed too much. I believe JD went into the crowd on Need You Tonight.
But JD was interacting nicely with the band. JD was talking to the audience. JD did once comment about the 'weed' smell in the audience and Andy shortly there after came up to him and whispered something in his ear.....I assume about the weed comment. But JD said it was about how good the audience was. I doubt that because if that were true...Andy just would've said it over his mike. I think the band is trying to tame JD a little. JD once said he promised that he would use no swear words and he didn't. I have heard past shows he swore a lot.
Hey JD is new at this stuff and the band is just trying to teach him the ropes. But I did see a lot of the JD we saw on tv. He and the band were really good. And it was a very good show.
As for Marty, he said something similar about making good friends with others was the best thing about Rockstar but it wasn't in any way a slap to INXS. Marty was ok. His music had a harder edge and while I liked some of it I was happy to hear Trees and his cover at the end. Marty also did Mr Brightside as performed on the show (acoustically).
The one disappointment I had with the show was something the original poster mentioned. JD did not use the megaphone on Pretty Vegas. I have no idea why....to me that is the best part of the song and enhances the performance. Other than that great show.
