LAST EDITED ON 02-22-06 AT 01:18 PM (EST)Caught INXS and Lovehammers at Massey Hall in Toronto on February 6th. Great concert!!
First off with Lovehammers ... they sounded fantastic and put on a great show. Marty did his usual "mad conductor" thing and climbed up into the second balcony to do a song - he was definitely on his game that night! He said a nice blurb thanking INXS for this opportunity - basically along the lines that the Rock Star gig started out as something great for him, and it turned into something great for his band. It was nice. The bass player had a bunch of sliced up fingers (not sure why), but I believe 3-4 were bandaged up, and he did a fantastic job. Memorable point about their performance was when they invited a young boy on stage to "jam" with them, and the kid ended up playing "Smoke On The Water" on bass, while the bassist sat in the boy's seat. Marty also asked the audience if someone would "show him a good time" in Toronto as it was his first time there. All-in-all - a great show by Lovehammers. (Made me go out and get their new CD anyway.)
On to INXS ... sound was great, JD was great - really, really, really great concert!! I loved the blend of their old stuff, along with their new stuff. I thought JD put his own flair on the old stuff, but sometimes, I thought I could close my eyes and envision Michael Hutchence. It's almost eerie how similar their voices *can* be IMO. JD did a good job of gyrating up and down the mic - and he looked oh-so-hot while doing it! Hehe. No megaphone for Pretty Vegas. What disappointed me was that I really thought he would speak more about being back in Toronto and what it meant to him. However, I don't think he was able to muster up much because he was overwhelmed - that's just the vibe I got. He started to say something about being there, and appeared to get choked up, then said "Aw eff it, let's rock!". The rest of the band (with the exception of the bass player) seemed pretty blah. In fact, the lead guitarist only moved from his spot once during the first set. The bass player was really energetic and looked like he was having a great time. I think he and JD could get into some serious trouble - ha!
