I'm getting a vibe that the husband was somehow involved in the suicide/murder of Mary Alice.. maybe the note " I know what you did... It makes me sick... I'm going to tell" wasn't to Mary Alice, but FROM her to her husband I suspect she discovered his secret buried in the trunk and was considering turning him in so he bumped her off If you want to get really twisted, maybe she discovered he was molesting the son (which explains his creepy demeanor/meds) and what is in the trunk is the remains of their previous child he also molested and then had to 'disappear' after said previous child threatened to tell Mommy
