LAST EDITED ON 10-17-04 AT 10:24 PM (EST)Agreed, Vols! My husband now thinks Bree is an absolute bitch for bringing that up at the table, but I can't help loving her! Also loved the little girl blackmailing Gabrielle into giving her the bike and bike riding lessons! And it's good to finally know what was in that trunk...now I want to know what's the deal with the son. Why is he on meds?
ETA: Any guesses what's on Mary Alice's tape that Bree swiped from the marriage counselor's office?

Maybe your wearing the wrong shoes! CRACKED ME UP!I wonder what the meds are? and why he is on them!
I can't wait to find out about the tapes! FUN!

Actually, it wasn't made clear but was obvious! In the background we could hear a news broadcast of the trunk being found! The reporter said that it appeared to contain human remains!

This show just keeps getting better. There are so many levels to the writing. Why did he keep the gun, and whose remains?

The whole thing with her being naked was absolutely hilarious! You are so write about the writing...so many levels and really is amazing!I have no idea how he could keep that gun! I feel sorry for the kid!
The remains? I am thinking it may be a child...maybe their child that was accidently killed. I dunno though...can't wait to find out!

I agree with you Vols. I think it has to do with a child from their past. It might also have something to do with why their son is on the meds. It is that or his is on the meds to help him cope with the lost of his mother. The cookies had me going last night. "After all, they are jusy kids."

I wanted to reach in the TV lastnight and slap Mary Alice's hubby for turning off the newscast. I wanted to hear what else they said about the remains in the trunk. No wonder Mary Alice shot herself. That is one creepy household. And I loved when Terri Hatcher's character kicked the can right when her ex was going to pick it up.
This is definitely a show you have to watch twice to catch all the great dialog.
And I was so happy she gave the kids the cookies.

There are SOOOOO many one liners that absolutely makes the writers some of the best out there!I cracked up when Terri Hatcher's character was in the bushes naked and she says, "so how are you?" (or something to that affect)! Too freakin funny!

The direction also added so much. Crossing her legs as she lie in the bushes was the perfect casual touch for that line.
Now - the remains - Did Mary Alice keep quiet about a murder and the body was hidden under her pool? Did her death prompt her husband to move the body in the hopes it would not be tied to him and did he keep the gun (he said "for protection") because he knows someone threatened his wife and is waiting for the unknown someone to come after him?
Too much wondering-too much TV - I need a life.

LAST EDITED ON 10-18-04 AT 02:09 PM (EST)how about no, sort of, and Nope...
I'm getting a vibe that the husband was somehow involved in the suicide/murder of Mary Alice..
maybe the note " I know what you did... It makes me sick... I'm going to tell" wasn't to Mary Alice, but FROM her to her husband
I suspect she discovered his secret buried in the trunk and was considering turning him in so he bumped her off
If you want to get really twisted, maybe she discovered he was molesting the son (which explains his creepy demeanor/meds) and what is in the trunk is the remains of their previous child he also molested and then had to 'disappear' after said previous child threatened to tell Mommy

Posted by Surveysez on 10-18-04 at 03:38 PM
Orrrrr- to go with the creepy vibe, what if the dad is hiding the fact that the kid murdered someone and the meds are to keep it from happening again?Mary Alice in voiceover at the end said being dead meant she was not afraid and should not have been when alive - I hope the tape expands on that.

But the way her bestfriends were studying the note. I would say that they would recognize if she had printed it. That would be the first thing I would wonder if I found a note like that. Who wrote it. And she probably wrote notes to her friends and they'd recognize her style.

You're welcome. I would love to actually do a summary, but now I've gotten myself busy playing Santa over in the OT.I've decided to keep this show to myself and not watch it with the hubby. He reads the paper or other things while watching then has to ask a bunch of questions, which drives me nuts.

How funny, mine too. He got in around the time Terri ended up in the bushes, then of course has to ask questions to catch him up, then talking to his mom and I can't hear. Don't they understand when "my show" is on to be quiet? I don't mess with his racing shows....

LAST EDITED ON 10-18-04 AT 03:39 PM (EST)Maty alice's family is really quiet weird if you ask me.....the doorbell rings and the kid shooshes the father and just barely opens door...what are they hiding.....I think the kid knows what the dad is hiding......or perhaps he was just afraid the knocker would over hear what they talking about.......
and who puts up a forsale sign on their house that hour of the night.....
but as many of you stated it was really nice to laugh again at a tv show instead of screaming at the tele....
Is it only me or does anyone else think that rex is having an affair? I think he is.

I wonder if the tapes will reveal that Rex had an affair with Mary Alice. This was the first show that I have seen though, so I don't know too much about the characters.
I do agree that MA's family is weird, and I wouldn;t be at all surprised if the father had something to do with her death.

That would not surprise me. Especially since it's Bree that has the tape.

I really don't think the affair was with rex....or if she even had an affair...I think the tapes will maybe shed some light on what a dysfunctional family she had and maybe hint at what may have caused the suicide.....Do you guys think anyone else saw the news....I don't think susan did but if she did maybe she could put 2 and 2 together.....

My guess on that was he didn't want to be seen. He knew that all the nosy people would ask him questions if they saw him putting the sign up. So he snuck out and did it when nobody was around. Plus he had just found out the trunk had been found so he was in a hurry to do something.

I had a new thought about the note today that I was just itching to get home and write. Maybe Mary Alice's son wrote the note to her? He seems a little confused about certain stuff and he said to his father that they were going to talk about Mary Alice (only point I've hated Bree - when she interruped that conversation!) I wonder if their son stumbled onto something by accident? Plus, the dad sounded kind of threatening when he said that maybe the son wouldn't live long enough to write the dad an obituary.

A lurker here, but I am so caught up in this show.....Tried to gather all the "clues" from the 3 shows:
1 Mary Alice narrates the show and admits to shooting herself?
2 When her husband was digging up the swimming pool, she said it was a sound her son had heard once before, as a child. That puts the incident at least 10 years in the past?
3 The note found by her friends when they were cleaning out her closet was in an envelope and postmarked the day of her death? That was what Susan said when she pulled out the envelope.
Was it typed or handwritten, that I can't remember.
4 The note stated I know what you did, it makes me sick, I am going to tell?
5 The news stated that the trunk contained remains, did it say human remains?
6 The trunk looked like a childs trunk, there were some sort of figures or paintings on the side? Did anyone else notice?
7 The father seemed to vaguely threaten his own son? (he might not live to write daddy's obituary) That is more of an impression than a clue given outright, that might not belong in this entry.
Are there more that I missed, I am sure there are. just looking to pinpoint what we have been told for certain, so I can rein in my more active imaginative leanings? Anyone have any others?
"RE: someone correct me if i am wrong"
Posted by motormouth on 10-20-04 at 01:34 AM
Wow! Great list. Yes, the note was hand written...and the trunk did have some bears or some other child like looking pics on it. I also do believe the newsman said "human" remains.

well, since they (the kid and father) are acting so strange...could it possible be that they are in say..a witness potection program and someone found out what they did...so fair of being outed to her neighbour the wife decides to take her life......much less worrisome than a life af shame and embarassment....the kid and faterh could care less because they are not that close to the neighbours....anyway,,,,I think I am over thinking...
"RE: Welcome!"
Posted by volsfan on 10-24-04 at 02:58 PM
Zombie...yes the note was postmarked the day she committed suicide! Also, I re-watched the episode lastnight and I found it strange when the son answered the door and was talking to Bree...as she gets ready to leave, he says thanks for remembering my mother. I don't think the son and father have talked about it and I think the son believes the father has forgotten her!

Didn't Bree come into the garage when the hubby was wrapping the trunk (last week's show)? And the son told her he didn't know where his dad was, then the dad shows up behind him? Didn't she think that was suspicious?

This was the first episode I watched. I do believe it is a very unique show but I am not sure about its long term prospects.
