"Question"
Last year I was a SYTYCD virgin. From the very first show I remember having at least one OMG moments per city. Sometimes multiples. This year, not so much.

So...the question is: Is my being underwhelmed this year because the newness has worn off and in one short season I've become jaded, or is it just an underwhelming year so far?

I'm really hoping that it's an underwhelming year so far because I'm missing having those OMG moments!

1. "RE: Question"
I do think the OMG I've never seen that moments do go down in the subsequent years.

Mostly because it is human to compare what you are seeing know to whatever memory you have of the OMG moments, so I think it takes more to have that reaction. I think you do have a different baseline after the first year.

So far I think the talent we are seeing is pretty strong, but I haven't seen much that was surprising. We seem to be getting a lot of lyrical types and that tends to not have the OMG that some of the popper/locker types have as the lyrical are less likely to do the really weird how can a body do that stuff.

2. "RE: Question"
yes an overabundance of lyrical....as usual, esp. women, besides a few ballroomers, we've not really seen anything else from women, maybe LA will change that. We need Comfort+

But Brandon was an OMG moment for me this year. I really liked Silky the taphiphopper

I don't think they have shown any of the OMG wow people. Maybe they're waiting for Vegas to wow us and so they know who stays/goes so they can show us people we'll get invested in.

I tend to be most wowed by the hip hoppers and poppers/lockers. Big moves, humor, fun. The lyrical people make me say "oooh" but not Wow.

I liked the Memphis jukin' guy.

Oh, I hope you're right! I missed the show last week and for some reason thought it was on Thursday nights. I need to program my DVR so I won't miss it again! (Just checked at its on again tonight with auditions from LA and Seattle. *does happy dance*)

Tummy I've found that the wow factor does go down a bit, but its still an amazing show.

>>and next week is already Vegas...take note Idol...<<

Yes, everything about this show is more well-produced than Idol. Less episodes wasted on auditions, less emphasis on the truly terrible or deluded dancers, and more positive emphasis on those who just don't quite cut it but may have potential or other inspirational reasons for being featured on the show, like that chick last week with the spinal deformity.

I've watched every year since the first one, and I have been wowed by a few. The tapper/hiphop guy was great, and I loved the two brothers last night, the one who did the gene autry style dance and the other who tapped with the whoopy cushion. They also had that great latin dance pair from Miami. I think what they have not shown yet this year is a mind-blowing hip hop/breaker and a mind-blowing contemporary guy dancer with lots of strength. Overall, though I think the talent seems comparable to previous years, especially among the girls.

9. "RE: Question"
Brandon is the strong contemporary (he was last guy with Gev last year) Keep an eye on him!

ANd Philip is back!! he's the popper/locker that they auto put thru bc he was sick last year. But then he danced with his friend to cont. This really is good for him. I think he will make top 20 and go far...hopefully

And the following week the Top 20 starts so the auditions for Season 6 in fall will be the next few weeks, and I suppose the Vegas week will be in August after Season 5 winner is named

4. "RE: Question"
I've seen every season and I am definitely underwhelmed this year. Brandon Bryant is the only standout for me so far. I like some of the others, but I have not watched anyone's audition twice other than his and that wasn't the case in other years. I hope it picks up because I fear if it doesn't that this years Top20 is going to be pretty lame.

5. "RE: Question"
I agree with you. Where are the people that captured us right away? Remember Twitch, Hawk, Dominic, etc. Hopefully we just are not seeing them. I like the lyrical/comtemporary dancers further on in the competition, but right now they are all kind of blending together.

(According to Nygel's tweets, tonight has some of his favorite audition, along with a "battle" that makes him laugh. I'm afraid it might involve Sex.)

10. "RE: Question"
Remember Twitch, Hawk, Dominic, etc.

These were all breakers, right? It seems to me that this season hasn't had as many breakers. The breakers are more "wow" for a 30 second audition, but do they translate to better dancers for all the different styles of dance? I think there are some excellent dancers this season (like the brothers from Wednesday's show, and Kaitlin) who I think will wow us as they get into different types of choreography.

In the Canadian season of SYTYCD, there was a ballerina who auditioned. She certainly had other styles of dance in her repetroire to start with, but to see her get into even more was really great.

I do enjoy the mixed style aspect of this show. Hopefully there will be a couple of great breakers to get through to add that flavour.

12. "RE: Question"
I actually thought that there were some really interesting dancers that came out of LA and you are right that they didn't really show too many break dancers. The contemporary dancers all begin to look the same to me after a while. This audition stage almost doesn't matter. I really start to love this show from this point on, so I'm hoping for a great summer!
