One of them is turn out of the legs and how you do a high kick. After starting Jazz I stayed with that because it didn't require the turn out and I could let the hip rise for a higher kick. In Jazz (and in the contemporary I see) you often do more funky isolation of body parts that is usually not a part of ballet. I believe 5 hours is about the time they've said the have in booked rehearsal with the choreographers. I believe they have a lot of on their own time, as well. I dunno if they could book good choreographers if you had to do it as a 40 hour a week job for the season. Although there still isn't a lot of time between Thursday when they get the results and Monday when the show is taped for on your own stuff, which makes what they do even more spectacular. I think one reason some of the dance troops look so much better on the show is the difference between a couple of days of rehearsal vs a couple of weeks/months of rehearsal. They could do tap, but it would probably have to be really dumbed down unless they happened to cast to people that had done enough tap you wouldn't have to start from shuffle ball change and work up from there.. After all, you can be a hair out of sync in a lot of dances and it would be hard to catch visually.
