MIG and Deanna are happy with the original songs they sang, but Jordis was very disappoined. Marty said he purposely went against INXS's wishes and that he did shout during his song.

The band says they were testing Marty with their comments, but he said he had to meet them halfway andd be who he is. They thought his answer was great.

To me Ty more or less insulted the voting public. He made it sound like the voters were not smart enough to vote for him. Even though he knows he is right for INXS and they need him. That is not a smart thing to do. I expect he will be in the bottom 3 again next week.

I think Marty nailed it also. He mimicked Michael Hutchence yet put a twist on the song. I proved that he could do INXS and something different last night. His stock rose nicely last night. Kudos to Marty.

I like Marty's personality and he does some cool moves up there - and are his eyes getting bluer? Maybe it's the eyeliner ... but honest to god, the man cannot sing!!! He has presence on stage, but Dave's comments about how it's not about hitting notes are KILLING me.DON'T CHANGE is a fantastic song and Marty absolutely slaughtered it. I grew up loving that song and I loathed his performance. The guy isn't missing a note here & there, he's missing entire verses. Even his screaming is off key. If you're gonna scream, do it for quick dramatic effect ... and do it ON KEY. I'm starting to think that Dave & the band are tone deaf because Marty is seriously seriously bad. I'm sorry, but when you're listening to a CD or the radio, it's not about stage presence -- it's about singing, hitting notes, conveying the appropriate emotion, taking your audience on an emotional journey through highs and lows. Music is storytelling, and growling all the way through a song is a lazy way of showing an edge or conveying angst. Oh, and you can't look at the audience like you're an axe murderer. Now that I'm on a roll, I also hated his rendition of Arms Wide Open. It's a story of anticipation and joy versus the angst of past mistakes. That anger doesn't need to be conveyed through shouting. It needs to be balanced with softness. Marty failed to deliver the nuance and beauty -- he just gritted his teeth and menaced his way through it. Awful awful in my book.

I think Dave has consistently said that rock is not about hitting ALL the notes - not that the notes don't matter at all.Good point about stage presence not translating onto a CD or over the radio. I hadn't thought of that. I don't think most people can tell if a singer is on pitch or not - myself included. I just know if something sounds good or bad to me. And here's the real sad part - I saw an article in The Washington Post weeks ago (couldn't find it again to link) about how it's standard in the industry to use software to correct pitch. A singer can sing just about any old thing and it gets cleaned up. This was after the whole Ashlee Simpson debacle. Explaining why so many singers lip-sync so-called live performances - there's no way they can match the sound of the studio. So that was a long way of saying that it doesn't matter what his voice is for the CD.

I agree, because the situation they are put in when they have to sing an INXs is unreal. They are put in a losing situation....I came see it being hard finding out you are in the bottom three...being bummed and all and have to turn it around in seconds and go up there. Ty for example, didn't think he belonged in the bottom three and was shocked to see that he was. He almost had tears in his eyes and had to get up there in seconds and perform a random INXs song. That is tough. THis week put them all in a situation where they have time to rehearse an INXs song and be in the right mood when they do it. I don't know what they are waiting for. Geezo, how does INXs know that MiG, Jordis or JD are right for INXs. They don't!

Marty was great! It definitely was a good thing for him that he was in the bottom 3 this week. I personally have always thought he was a top contender to win it all, though recently I had Mig edging him out. Now I'm not sure which way it will go. We need to see them all sing INXS songs soon.

37. "RE: Just Plain Wrong" |
It is the time when we are down to the most talented of the bunch & it's time to get serious & vote fairly on each "single" performance or not vote at all. It is just plain wrong that the absolute worst performance, by a landslide, Tue night is NOT in the bottom 3. I can't wait for Sun night's show to see what happens when they get back to the house.Ty has every right to be upset that he was in the bottom 3 last night. Unfortunately, his over-the-top personality is starting to hurt him in the voting, but he did have one of the better performances. Honestly, the bottom should have been between Jordis, Marty, Deanna & MiG, because they just weren't as spectacular as J.D., Suzie & Ty. I was really disappointed in Dave because of his reaction to Marty being in the bottom 3. Let's face it, Marty's vocals were terrible Tue, the only worse vocals being Jordis. Yes, his "stage performance" was great & rock star like, but he really slaughtered a great song & he knew it & admitted it. Also, while I respect Marty not wanting to change his style (he shouldn't & I think he would be great heading another band), I really thought it was disrespectful that he admitted to doing the exact opposite of what INXS has been asking for AND to the Nth degree. I do have to admit that he did good on "Don't Change," not spectacular, but it was better than Ty & Deanna's performances, by far. Now is the time for each performer to take the repurcussions for their performances & their "fans" should reflect that in the voting. This is not AI, where the lowest voter gets the boot, no matter what. If they perform badly, they have a second chance to "redeem" themselves to INXS. It is not fair to the better performances to disrespect them just because you like another's "looks" or "style" or whatever. It is also doing Jordis a disservice, as you could see the look on her face that she felt guilty by not being placed in the bottom 3 & she has to go back to the mansion after not being held accountable. I just had to get these things off my chest. I know this is "reality tv" & shouldn't be taken seriously, but it just gets on my nerves that "talent competitions" end up not being about talent, but about who has the coolest look, style, where they live, who they know, where they've been, etc. (This is also following the travesty in voting on U Can Dance, it is just wrong.)

Results of last night certainly wasn't a surprise with Deanna getting kicked off. Sure she's nice, has talent, but I didn't think her style or range fit the mold of the band. Actually would have enjoyed watching Ty take the walk. I liked him at first, but after a few weeks I'm thinking he's a little too over the top for my taste. Talented, yes. But not my choice. The drama of who will be in the bottom three is getting a little too much. I'm not a big fan of stretching these things out for an hour anyway. I think Marty did a good job but I'm not sure I agree with Dave's reaction of him being there. At this point in the game, anyone could end up there. I don't think there's one of them that is blowing this competition out of the water with the voting public. They are all talented in their own way and each week we all get to see them showcase it. Obviously Jordis was stunned she wasn't in the bottom three, but it shows you that it's not all about that one night's performance, it's the following you have developed over time. Then it's also a matter of where the votes are swaying that had once voted for a kicked off contestant. Who will Deanna's fans vote lean toward now. I couldn't help but notice how all the rockers, except JD, were teary-eyed when saying good-bye to Deanna. Makes me think he is not letting himself get too close with the group...either that or he self-centered and doesn't really care as long as it's not him waving good-bye. I see it coming down to Mig, JD and Marty.

As for JD, INXs said it best....he is the only one who appears to be getting it. JD knows that in the end one person will be standing. As long as it aint him he has to be happy. Each week he gets closer to the prize and he knows it and I think that puts a smile on his face....good for him.

>It's starting to seem as if >Marty is as polarizing as >JD. Mig may be >the best choice for INXS >after all. But polarizing is a good thing in rock, right? It generates publicity, attention, discussion, PR. No such thing as bad publicity, right?
I was just listening to an interview this morning with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco (small indy band and formerly of Uncle Tupelo.) He was asked about what reaction Wilco got to their first album. He replied, "Indifference." It hit me that "indifference" is the worst reaction you could get. There are a lot of MiG-lovers out there (I do love his voice) but I think there are far too many MiG-indifferers out there for him to make it. I think both Marty's & Ty's newfound combative/arrogant attitudes are because they realized JD's so-called bad boy role was working for him, not against him. Or it could be they are just getting more comfortable with themselves or have decided, "What the hell, I might as well go for broke."

I think there are a lot of Mig lovers out there! As others have pointed out he's got many, many, many supporters in Australia, Philippines, and England, not to mention the US (where I'm writing from). He's obviously got as many strong supporters as Marty or JD.I don't alienating bunches of people is good for any band that wants success - I don't like JD, nothing about him, including and most especially his performances, and I'll have nothing to do and pay no money towards any project or band he's involved with. Neither will others who dislike him (and NOT just his personality, - some people do not enjoy his performances and find them just as creepy and off-putting as some seem to find Marty). I would definitely buy concert INXS concert tiks/music if Mig or Marty was fronting. Jordis, Ty I'd be curious about and maybe.
