Colby stood in the living room looking at Liz. Her voice mesmerized him. “I’m telling you that change can be a good thing. But change just for the sake of change is not a good policy and something that I can’t support.”, she spoke strongly. His attention drifted to her lips as they moved. Ivory teeth glistened in flashes behind the glossy red lipstick. Her face was lightly powdered in a vain attempt to mask her flaws and imperfections. Looking at her it didn’t take much to steer him in directions he knew he shouldn’t go. Those memories were from ages ago and just need not be dredged up again. But he couldn’t help it; he saw her and they were there in an instant.He longed to reach out and touch her, to pull her close and kiss those soft lips. He remembered how passionate they used to be together and smiled. It didn’t matter where they were. If they were in the mood, and most often they would be, the hands slid to places that just should not be touched in public. She had a way of making him weak down to his core and it left him very vulnerable. Colby gave Liz everything he could, anything any other woman would be satisfied with. But Liz was no ordinary woman. Liz was a very intelligent and ambitious woman. As much passion as she put into her lovemaking, she put into her work and then some. She was adored by most, hated by some, but no matter what people thought of her, they knew she had conviction. In the end, it was her ambition that got in Colby’s way. In the end, it was the ambition that won, and he that lost. He snapped out of his trance as Liz’s opponent Shawn Douglas started to spout about tax cuts and the deficit. He watched the look on her face, the way the vein on her temple pulsed and throbbed as her slate gray eyes turned to steel. It was a look he had seen before on numerous occasions, and could tell that she was getting ready to give him a double-barreled rebuttal. Colby shook his head and laughed, “I’m glad it’s you buddy”. Suddenly he remembered why they had finally let the relationship end, maybe now he could let it go. He reached for the remote, changed channels, and then went into the kitchen to grab a beer.
