Hi all.I first watched this show last season, and then I repeatedly kicked myself for not finding it sooner. I was zonked-out tired with a newborn, and I'd dance around with her while watching, which kept her quiet (and me relatively sane.) She'd giggle every time the "So You Think You Can Dance" music played (although I originally thought they were saying "Shooooobie Doooobie Doooobie DANCE! It stuck, and if I say "shoooobie dooobie dooobie dance!" to my now-one-year-old, she busts a move. It's funny.) So this season, I'm on board from day 1. Can't wait!!!

and naked Been street performing in LA. Dances to some James Bond sounding music, gets a bit hip hop after the intro. Mostly poses and acts sexy. does a nice windmill break move at the end. Nigel. Asks if he is professional in Italy Mia, how successful in America. Not very sex-sessful. Nigel explains that is a Freudian Slip. Mia. I just don't think you will be successful. The caliber is not up to par with what most Americans need to be a working dancer. He is happy to be listening to her. They do say the Air Flair was really good. Mary says the rest is really weak. You are very good looking, but that wasn't dancing. Nigel tells him he is being arrogant. He doesn't understand the smug look and that he doesn't listen. Going to walk off without hearing the third judge. That doesn't mean we don't like you or what we think you can do, but you didn't give us the opportunity to say that. There is an arrogance, and you need that. Nigel wants to see him in choreography. Mary says yes. Mia says he'd be impossible to create a piece on and he is a nightmare, but she also is a yes for choreography.

I thought he was rather hot. Had he Cristian's personality, though, he would have come across much better. Cristian was gorgeous but appeared to ignore it (appeared to ignore it -- his open-shirtedness belied that) and had an aw shucks manner about everything.

I don't know how difficult it would be to follow choreography. The technique is not good enough, that is the reason, not your sight impairment. Mary. Technique is not strong enough. She stands next to the choreographer to get the moves. Mia is in tears. Someone close to her lost their eyesight. She has more passion than most dancers they see. For this competition it is so difficult. Potential for brilliance, but technique is lacking and she loves you. Nigel says it would be patronizing and just using her to put her through, but thank you very much for coming out. Nigel, decides NOT to use someone. Has he been in Paulers cuppa?

As soon as I saw him, I heard James Brown singing "Get up offa that thang, and dance til you feel better..." which was what Twitch danced to last season at some point and I remember being blown away by it and re-watching it several times. What have you done in the last year to help yourself move on? Work on just foot movement and level changes so more comfortable with what they throw at him. Mary. Extraordinary and memorable. You are the person we remember when I talk about arms and hand. The way you move no one else does. Mia. Brilliant, best of that genre, most interesting. Pray you can do other styles even a little bit then everyone should be scared. Through to choreography.

He has been taking some classes and experimenting. Nigel stops him and asks him to perform to them and not stare at the floor. Nigel. How long have you been doing this. About 16 months. He was 485 before he started this. Mia's first experience with jump style. Mia asks him what turns him on. He likes it, it is cool music. Mary hasn't seen much changes in a year, and it is the same.

Snidget - Thank you so much for the brilliant recap. As for this premiere show, I was VERY disappointed. I did not like all the in-depth profiling of some of these idiots. I got it the first time around, THE ITALIAN GUY WAS A JERK!!!! How many times did they have to show him mugging and trying to get a rich sugar mommee? Think Mia might fill-in there. Her Desperate Housewife slip was absolutely hilarious! The Russian ballroom and Japanese ballroom couples were not that good. The Russian couple was marginally better, but the Japanese male was a VERY weak partner. His posture and bearing need a lot of work. Pull yourself up!!!!! The blonde soccer babe ... she was awright. Think it was her look ... and she did have that "it" factor where you like her. Technique not bad. The first girl with the pink tipped hair had very, very, very good technique. Think she was the best just pure, all-around dancer thus far. Her technique, flexibility and extension will allow her to cross-over into other dance styles. Liked the guy at the end also. Wouldn't he have a better chance entering America's Got Talent though? I don't see him crossing over, but then again the judges are looney and wouldn't know talent unless they fell over it. They lost all credibility with me the first season when they summarily dismissed the best dancer of that season and any other season - Blake!! I mean, come on, Nigel. For you to sit there and tell that blind girl about not wanting to use someone and trying to convince her that you have a shred of integrity was hilarious. The same with his being a "champion" to that end guy that I liked (robert muraino?????). Come on! I don't know what Mary's story is, but man, I cannot stand that chick. If they were going to toss people because they're arrogant, why wouldn't they start with her? And the voting of all three including the "mystical" Mia, is just too funny. Like voting out actual dancers and keeping around untalented, skanks like Lacey because why? To hook up with the other dancers? She had marginal talent at best and yet she gets how far again? Come on!!!!! I really just watch the show to see the dancers. I now know the judges suck, the judging suck and apparently they're attempting to change their image with this insincere smaltz so my advice just stick with the dancers. Would have liked to have seen more. Oh, would like to add that the one profile I did enjoy was of the blind dancer. She really was amazing in terms of what she was doing. I loved it! And I loved her also. After all Nigel's crap, when she emerged from the audition room, she said she loved ... Mia!!!! Even people that have trouble seeing can see through Nigel and Mary apparently.

>and not-so-great talent. I'm one of those that don't really get off on watching really talentless people. I thought the purpose of the show was to showcase and find talented ones. And I think, not sure, that you missed a major point I was making (probably badly). Nigel was pontificating about being this high-minded bastion of integrity in not wanting to exploit people and then an inordinate amount of time is wasted showing "Sex" and funnily enough more "Sex". Talking about the American guy that shows up each year. Now what is the point of showing him if not exploiting the crap out of
him? It's ridiculous!!!!! And Mia critiques him? Mia? Hello!!! Anyone home?????? And the Italian guy? The point of wasting everyone's valuable time and not showing someone talented was what again? I don't need to see someone that's not talented, not trained and very obnoxious. And Mia and Mary and Nigel put them into the choreography section ... excuse me ... SEXtion because why? And had someone actually dance with him and put up with him again because? I find it offensive. People actually TRAIN YEARS to be dancers. For these three judges ... who are trying either to convince us or themselves that they have integrity - to subject a real dancer to that Italian guy's kind of attitude is simply not acceptable. Mia said he wouldn't last ten minutes in her studio because of what he's like, but she happily sends him to learn a dance number in another studio where a poor unsuspecting female dancer who probably feels the same way Mia does about throwing him out, but is not in the position to do anything about him! Makes no sense. I would much rather have seen trained dancers doing their thing than watch these two train wrecks.

>disagrees" section* Okay, so you disagree with me. I'm fine with that. I'm just waiting for someone that knocks my socks off like Blake McBeautiful! Oh, he is something. Don't think anyone is ever going to come close. I also would like a beautiful little ballerina to win. It's a lot of work and I'd like someone that put in the effort to win the money and a nice cushy apartment. I also love some of the numbers these choreographers come up with.

They repeatedly say "America's Favorite Dancer". Usually that means they have to be pretty good, but doesn't mean they will only pick the person that is the best technically with no other considerations at all.Once you let America Vote all bets are off. If they really wanted to find the best dancer they would not let the people vote, they would do all the jidging. The point of the show is like the point of all TV shows. To make $$. Oh they may say other things, but the point is to make money. People like watching train wrecks so they give the people what they want. To expect them to do something that will turn off the majority of the viewing audience is not something they are going to do. We did see quite a bit of the good, but like any open casting call for a popular TV show you are going to get a variety of people showing up. I suppose they could only audition people with 10-15 years of high level training, but then we'd miss a lot of the self taught hip-hop types that can be very entertaining to watch, IMO, when they do what they do best. I'm trying to figure out why you torture yourself with the show since it seems extremely painful for you.

Agree - sort of. The judges pick who America votes on and weeds out the technically inept or should. Now the thing is there's a variable here because people are expected to learn to crossover and dance in styles that they're not familiar with and so they may indeed be absolutely brilliant at breakdancing, but truly suck at ballroom or ballet. The show would have you believe the Nigel, Mary (dreadful woman) and Mia (still haven't decided about her) actually care about technique and do not let anyone on the show that doesn't have a solid technical base in their particular genre. >Once you let America Vote all

You know, you make really good points. Is that why you do recaps? Anyway, it's hard to disagree with you here, but the point is that the JUDGING sucks! It's not even America I blame although I would love to blame Americans for voting incorrectly. The judges like everyone else know that people can be led to vote for people they didn't even know they didn't like, by the judges trashing and saying certain things. I've seen these "noble" judges do that to get rid of competition to clear the way for skanks like Lacey.

Okay, the gist of what you're saying, yeah, sure. However, I don't think that showing self-taught hip-hop types is a train wreck and didn't mean to imply that at all. The last guy .... Robert was it? .... was exceedingly good. Spectacular. Everything you want a dancer to be in that he did impossible things with his body that ultimately entertained and left you with a sense of awe. Victor was it was excellent. The gentleman that danced to the poem was excellent. Again, these are not the train wrecks I'm referring to. The gigolo, male exotic dancer was a train wreck. I'm not even saying to NOT show him, but they were FIXATED on him. They went on and on and on and interviewed him and had him strip down to what was the suggestion of complete nudity and even AFTER the lousy audition, there was the lengthy conversation where he was obnoxious and they already tossed off Blake for being "arrogant" so "arrogance" was established as being cause for dismissal. However, this year being "talentless" and "arrogant" apparently is not cause anymore because Nigel and Mary and Mia changed the rules and Nigel now thinks a certain amount of "arrogance" is a good thing??????
Awwwwwwwwwww ..... I just can't keep up with their excuses. I would say they're inconsistent at best and again, this isn't America, it's the HORRENDOUS and need I say, SUPER ARROGANT judges.

You are so funny! I quite enjoy you. As for why I watch .... ??????? It is painful ... and torturous and all the rest. Much like life, but the thing is you see beauty. I'm telling you a couple of those routines last year and really throughout the life of this show have been absolutely brilliant. Those moments - for me - are worth sitting through and wading through all the crap. And watching Blake, my God, he was a thing of beauty! He was amazing! As a lifelong student of dance, I know how hard these things are and so very much appreciate people like Blake and all the other incredible dancers that devote themselves and put themselves through all the arduous work so that they can dance for us!!!! That's why I watch. For the dancing. I look forward to your recap next week. Hopefully, next week we'll see someone that I can get excited about.
