buscemi 414 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Daytime Soap Guest Star" 08-25-04, 09:44 AM (EST) "Worst behavior, Brandon and Nicole, Colin, or Chip?" 1. Last week, Brandon and Nicole take a bus. The bus runs out of gas (or is it faked?) and makes it to the destination. Bradon and Nicole refuse to pay full price. Finally, Nicole drops the $$ on the ground in front of the bus driver. 2. This week, Colin and Christie take a 2 hour taxi drive on the highway. This drive is extremely unsafe b/c the taxi is on a donut. Of course, the donut blows out. Colin will only pay half price. Facing charges being pressed, he drops his money on the counter. 3. This week, Chip and Kim take a taxi in the desert. Everything Chip says reveals that he knows he doesn't have enough money to pay the driver. At the end, Chip pays him only about half the bill, despite the driver doing nothing wrong. I'll go with Chip on this one. I wonder what would have happened if Chip tried to stiff the cab driver at the airport?   Top

The driver didn't do anything wrong and got them to their destination in a regular amount of time. If Chip was going to be proper, he should have told him about the money situation ahead of time.   Top

Colin displayed THE absolute WORST behavior of ANY player on ANY episode of The Amazing Race to date!!! And he NEVER intended to pay the full amount for his ride! At the beginning, while he was climbing into the cab, finally "agreeing" (after being a SNOT to the driver) to the hundred dollars, he said, "You'd better go real fast for a hundred bucks!" ...and then, when the other teams started passing them, he immediately said, "I'm NOT GOING TO PAY YOU if you let them PASS!" because that little punk never wanted to give up the dough- it didn't have a THING to do with that flat tire, until he decided that it was his best excuse to use to keep the money!!! So, while Chip worried about whether or not he was going to have enough money for his fare, Colin plotted to rip off the taxi driver. He wins the trophy, hands down.   Top

Colin's behaviour trumped everything else. Brandon and Nicole kept their composure without being boorish, even though they were being jobbed big time by the bus guy who was going way overboard. By comparision, Colin agreed to pay a certain amount and the cabbie got him there. The cabbie tried to keep it safe -- as someone else explained, the spare tire is good for MONTHS as long as you don't have an imbecile screaming into your ear to go faster than safely allowed, and then threatening to not pay you if you're going to follow the safer speed limit and end up having other teams pass you by. Besides, B & N didn't have the police threatening to arrest them if they didn't pay. And B & N agreed to pay the price they payed. -Come on, almost every team in every Amazing Race has yeled at their cabbie to go faster, especially when being passed by other teams. What C & C were doing wasn't out of the ordinary. -I doubt that Colin would have gotten into a cab knowing he couldn't pay the full amount. However, if Colin were in that situation, I'm sure he'd thank the cabbie for taking less than the full amount if the cabbie had done nothig wrong.   Top

Their is no comparison between Chip/Kim and Brandon/Nicole and C/C. Chip and Kim have been very accurately explained. I will stick to Brandon and Nicole. Nicole's behavor at the end was not very nice yes. However, she was scared to death. Both teams attempted to get off the bus. They knew they were being fleeced. Not only that but it was clearly stated by Brandon that they will only pay this amount if they leave immediately and go quickly. The drivers bullied them. They would not even let them leave. Nicole reacted out of fear and disbelief that the drivers would get away with this. Colin had no $50 verbal agreement. He got in the cab knowing that. He has no right to expect anything but to arrive at the airport. He got what he paid for.   Top

I'd go with Chip's underlying behavior as the worst. He got into the cab knowing he was going to stiff the driver on the fare. Even though he did it with a smile and a nice attitude, he was still out of line, imo. IIRC, Colin told the driver at the outset $50 for the ride but $100 if he got them to the destination 'really fast'. Technically he was correct with the $50. But his entire attitude and demeanor was really off-putting. And his sense of proportion? Risking the shot at a $1 million prize over a $50 dispute of money that's not even his? Christie exhibits all the traits of the abused partner unless there was a lot more to her actions during the fare fracas than was broadcast. From what I saw Colin's behavior towards her was completely out of line, yet later she apologized to him (which he, of course, accepted with his usual grace). Temperament-wise, Colin/Nicole & Brandon/Christie would be better matches. Nicole seems to have a large measure of 'shrew' in her while Brandon seems to just want everyone to like him, regardless of the cost.   Top

"Christie exhibits all the traits of the abused partner unless there was a lot more to her actions during the fare fracas than was broadcast." See, I don't see that at all. What I saw was that Christie realized that Colin had gone over the top based on the stressful situation, and she apologized so he could get his mind back on the race. Then, the next day, she was ordering him to sit in the back of the taxi while she talked to the driver.   Top

I had to rewatch since your $50 from the onset. Colin did say $50.00 and the cab driver said NO WAY its $100.00 and did not get into the car until Colin said OK. Once he was in the car and he noticed the first car getting close only THEN did HE say that he would not pay if anyone passed the driver. The driver never agreed to that. Also, - he never even ASKED for the spare to the other taxi - he TOLD them he needed it and took it. As far as CHIP is concerned when they showed the meter around 60.00 is when he started to get really concerned - and he was talking OUT LOUD about it surely the cab driver heard him. He also talked to the cab driver face to face and made no excuses for himself - it was his fault and he took the blame for it. My biggest frustration right now is that people are saying that the one cab driver was wrong because of the tire - but that Chips driver was an honest business man and he could be but do you know that for sure? what about the cab that ran out of oil. Did you see the BM even think about not paying him. It just seems that everytime they have to put out money they try to finagle their way out of paying it.   Top

However, I'm certain I'd be pretty upset if the cab driver had no spare (or was already using the donut spare) and there was a problem. But I doubt cabs are regulated there the way they are here. As for the fare, $100 seemed to be the going rate, that all teams were paying, unlike the blatant bus rip-off that B/N and K/K dealt with last week. For a 2 hour ride, I think it sounds reasonable, but I don't take cabs that often so what do I know? I can't really blame Colin or Nicole for getting pissy about being ripped off. But at what point do you just count your losses and get over it? Had he been pressed for time, I'm certain Colin would have just paid and not created a scene. No way would he have let it cost him time in the game. But since they had a wait at the airport, I suppose he figured he had time to kill, so he made an issue of it. As for Chip, I think it was pretty stupid for him to tip an extra $20 to the cabdriver at the airport. This is what caused him to shortpay the driver in Dubai. Of course, he just tries to justify it with his "karma", but stiffing is stiffing and I don't give him points for being nice about it.   Top

So this time, he got his. The fact is, generally Chip has been a good guy and tried to do the right thing. When we saw how much money the K Twins had to hand over, we realize just HOW generous Chip has been. He has indeed gone overboard because they shouldn't have been out of money at this point.   Top

Also, racers should further keep in mind that people in most other cultures don't put much value in time or moving quickly.
