"RE: LaKisah Jones" I'm glad Jennifer helped her with the 'entertainment' aspect - and she was much more interesting than she's been. She's still a little disconnected, but big improvement. Also, huge props for picking a non-standard instead of a typical 'diva' song. I think the dress is too much like the red one she wore a couple of weeks ago. I don't really like the judges comments -- Lakisha has proved beyond a doubt that she's a superior singer, she SHOULD be showing more of a performance. So I think it was a good choice. For me personally - what I'm likely to pay money for - I'd still pick Melinda. But for AI, Lakisha topped Mindy tonight.   Top

"RE: LaKisah Jones" I totally agree with you when you look at it from a "really good music" viewpoint. I was trying to think from an AI viewpoint. I'm afraid that Melinda's class & polish and - dare I say - cabaret feel will eventually lose more typical AI voters. (again, not using the word 'cabaret' as Simon typically does - I think the word is a compliment & means a deeper connection to the lyrics - not an insult for people that over-act their lyrics.) I think Melinda is way better a performer than Lakisha, and I think she'll outlast her, but she needs to pick something like "Conga" one of these days just 'cause it's AI.   Top

While I'm not particularly willing to defend this use of the term, in the context of singing I've often heard it used as a way to say someone, or some group, needs to loosen up & show more feeling/expression in what they're singing, as opposed to simply standing and stiffy delivering the words and tones in the precisely correct way of a formal performance. That's how I, personally, think peeps are using the term here - not as a racial statement. But, you're right that there are other ways to express the same sentiment. I saw the part up to House telling everyone they had mass hysteria (and were not really ill) and then was with Cuddy, wondering what had gotten to Pang. (They thought he was dying). On the plane - House thought that the guy might be a drug mule & was about to cut into him when he spotted another symptom, went through his wallet & saw that he had been scuba diving yesterday. He had the bends - and being up in an airplane accelerated the condition. They lowered the plane's alititude & put the guy on oxygen. The woman in the hospital - they were about to drill into her skull (exploratory?) when Chase remembered that the cat's food bowl was full. He went back to the house - cat's dead, followed electrical paths & realized that the house was connected to next door, which had recently been fumigated. Stopped the brain surgery in the nick of time, treated her for the toxin. The romances - The stewardess asked House out. Wilson called the hooker & asked her out. Chase told Cameron he wants more - so she broke it off (but clearly loves him). (and - just saying - how yummy is Chase?)   Top
