PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.

Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

“Dad?” he asked softly, making me look up from my book to watch the semi-private exchange about to occur. The two don’t notice me watching them. Settled down into the plush and enveloped by a blanket on a lazy Saturday afternoon, I gaze at the complexity of age almost 10. As the boy spins a tale of woe sprawled out on his daddy’s lap, I feel him growing before my eyes. I fear the inevitable. How many seasons before the boy dwarfs his father’s 6’3” frame? When will he be called to leave our laps, finding new comfort in the vines of a raspberry girl? His face. Still so creamy, soft as left-out butter. His eyes intelligent. Concerned now, earnest. They are my eyes, my face. Even his lips, bright red like a 1960’s studio portrait, pouty, wet; mine too. Gone is the baby from his face. Neatly pruned hedges frame his eyes, his lashes lush. His jaw, pronounced; cheekbones visible. His prelude to masculinity becomes him. When did it happen? I missed it. His voice…soft now. Finally, finally soft. 9 years of booming and an uncanny inability to whisper, now churned out reserved clarity, his stutter capitulated. There. His eyepools swell and glisten. I hear tremor catch him in the throat. I can’t think of the last time I saw him cry. All the tears from his first three lives -- newborn, infant, toddler -- I assumed he cried them all up. Tender washes over me. I look down at my book before my stealthlessness betrays me. Proud, I am, to see my glistening boy at his father’s side, not mine. Jealously proud. I swallow a hurty sentiment. With a trouper’s reluctance, I relinquish the emotional sceptre, knowing it is in good and right hands. with thanks to Sami
WHEEZY...just give the Dobby his friggin sweater already. Sheesh.

Beautiful! You took me into the moment. Wonderfully written and so full of visual and emotional.I loved the piece, but this line is stunning. Proud, I am, to see my glistening boy at his father’s side, not mine. Jealously proud. I swallow a hurty sentiment.
Thank you Wheezy, this is so good.

All have said such wonderful things, my words would be nothing but duplicates. So I shall just say "Thank You" for the wonderful emotions that you released in me, and for voiceing how all mothers feel as they watch their children grow. "Do you know, I always thought unicorns were fabulous monsters, too? I never saw one alive before!" "Well, now that we have seen each other," said the unicorn, "if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you." Lewis Carroll; Through the Looking Glass
