"lesbian starting over house mates?"
I wonder why when they finally have a lesbian it is at the end of the season. They really can't deal with the issues much when they rush through the end. Leah and then Meg. I thought they had not even dealt with Megs sexuality much. I really hope this season they have one lesbian who actually gets to deal with the issue. it is hard to be a lesbian here in the United States; people are prejudiced. I would like to see a lesbian who is overcoming those prejudices set out by society or a lesbian who is trying to date. they have tons of straight women why can't they try to represent the lesbian and/or bisexuals too!

it is very hard to date when you are a lesbian because regardless of your attractiveness or confidence society still thinks a certian way. I do not take too many chances because I do not want to be judged. I often wonder who else ever feels this way?

They did have a lesbian in the first season, and she even had her girlfriend over to the house. SHe ended up leaving the show, she didn't graduate. Dont remember her name...maybe Lea or something like that.

Someone with a better memory can answer more about her

Maybe they just haven't had that many lesbians or bisexuals sign up for the show or some do not feel comfortable opening up to a million viewers. That would go for anyone not just lesbians.

Actually Meg isn't a lesbian. She was confused about her sexuality and thought she might be bisexual, but after the season ended she confirmed that she is hetero. You bring up a good point though. I don't know why they don't have a lesbian on the show. I think it would be a good experience for the "straight" women in the house. Having a lesbian roomate might very well help them face prejudice and homophobia they might have. It certainly would make for an interesting dynamic.
I've noticed that there are issues that SO seems to gloss over or avoid completely. Sexuality is one-barely touched on, and religion is another-never mentioned at all. They are slowly heading into touchy areas though, I've noticed-for instance, abortion has been brought up now with two houseguests, and there has been murmurs about more. So I take it as a good sign that they are at least starting to look at some tough issues.
SO has a powerful voice among women, and the perfect opportunity to create some awareness about homosexuality-I hope they use it-and I say this as a straight woman.

I just replied to a thread similar to this one (about race and sexuality).

One thought that enters my mind is that if someone isn't out of the closet, they may not want to do so on national tv. However, if they are already "out" they may not see the need to make an announcement.

Like I said in the other thread "call me naive" - I thought or was hoping we were beyond this type of predudice. I feel people should be defined bu who they are, not their sexual preferance (or race, for that matter). *shrugs*

You may continue the discussion in this thread, which appears to be a bit more inclusive:

And Summerlynn31, it's not good form to "bump" your own thread if no one's responded to it. There's also a thread a few pages back about posters from the "old board". I bumped this thread to page 1 for you.
