It seems the Starting over show forgot to renew their domain name, so the web site is down .... www.startingovertv.com
It expired on Jan. 8th ... and is pending renewal or deletion. The Network Solutions company that maintains the 'domain name' says that anyone interested in getting the domain name of Startingovertv.com can apply ...
I guess the producers just didn't 'get it' ... and not attentive to little details like this .... go figure !!

Maybe not renewed? Or sued? Or????? Somebody watch the TV gossip chatter and let us know. (Edit to add: I did email a reviewer for the show who said they changed PR firms a while ago and the website is now done internally by NBC. Whatever, major goof.)
Domain names like this are incredibly valuable and it is a major foo-foo to lose it. IF THEY LOSE IT...and don't renew, must be the show is over! Starting Over! Even if the show is over, the domain name will draw tons of people for a long time, it's a valuable commodity to someone. In 2003 they got over a million hits a month on it.

 I just checked at my web host and it says it's already registered, so if SO gave it up, then someone else grabbed it real quick. I was going to grab it if they hadn't! Someone had noticed that a casting call was cancelled, so maybe this is it? Say it ain't so! It's hard to believe, because I think cable would pick it up, at least.

If their webmaster would let it go, you or I could snap it up for $7.50 and hold it to sell back. Their webmaster is offering it on "backorder", and if you get it, you pay them $60.00. I wouldn't do it because if B&M did want to come back online, it would be easy to do it under a similar name like "startingoverontv" or "startingoverarchives" or something.

I use Network Solutions for my web site also ... I have a business with a related web site. I just recently received a renewal notice from Network Solutions. The company gives the renewal notice six months in advance ... plenty of time to renew. The options of renewal in my case, and probably for SO is 1 year ... 3 years .... etc ... it is only $34 to renew for one year.
Even if the SO show is, or has been canceled for next season, I would think it is worth the money to keep the site up and running ... I think it was just an oversight on their part. I know for a fact in talking to Lisa that the show or production people used to 'screw up' with a lot of things pertaining to the show .. so this is no surprise that they didn't renew the domain name on time .. Perhaps they need a little 'coaching' on getting things done on time, and attention to detail ... Life has never been so UNREAL' ....  P.S. .... of course if it came down to a matter of money, and they didn't have the $34 for the domain name .. they could have always sent Lisa out on the streets to sell some of her jewelry ... oh had Christina 'do a bachlor party' just one more time for the good of the SO show ... I know that is terrible of me to say, but then the coaches always talk about being resourceful and 'surviving' ...

I agree with the poster that losing the domain is a major misstep unless there is doubt about the show's future. This could also explain why they have resorted to theatrics and nastiness this season, to boost sagging ratings. It's possible that instead of helping, it just nailed the coffin lid closed.

OMG NOooooo...this season's editing has been quite frustrating but I don't want the show to go away! Interesting points posted here, if their ratings were needing the extra drama this season you're right GNLB it could have done them in. I wonder if they weren't confronted with a law suit re: how they handle ADHD. Many ADHD professionals are upset by their tactics, and I personally question their ethics when it comes to ADHD. Also, for example, lets say Lisa2 gets PIS#ED off and just leaves, maybe she sued them for defamation of character. I'm hoping this is just an oversight..sure would be a sign of their organizational skills hmmmm.

That is possible or maybe due to the timeslot, they just aren't getting the viewers. From what I have read here, it seems to air around 11 or 12 in most places. Many people work and probably have no idea it's on (I found out about it while on sick leave). They may do better to put it on in the evening or late afternoon, especially if they want to continue the dramatics.

I've ALWAYS used the "dot tv" one to get to the site. I don't know why they continue to advertise the wrong one for three years. Someone should e-mail them and ask.

I know that the company Network Solutions is in Virginia ... so if the SO house sent the check to them to renew (and keeping in mind Monday is a national holiday) ... then by the time they get the check it takes about 48 hours to get a web site back up according to Network Solutions. I don't think it is anything more than an oversite as far as them not paying the renewal fee ... Whether the show has itself not been renewed for next season is another issue. I think the domain name, and whether the SO show has been canceled are two issues right now ... I suspect, and have thought all along that the SO show will not survive, and would not have another season. There was just too much humiliation in how they treated the women ... it is a wonder that they have not been sued yet, or maybe they have ... who knows. I think the show has just become too painful to watch at times ... to see those women go through that abuse, and exploitation. I do feel the women are exploited on this show. That is my opinion ... They should strongly consider a comedy type of 'reality show' ... perhaps kind of the same format, but not taking it seriously like they try to do now ... kind of a show to see how far women will go to humiliate themselves (willingly, not in the name of some kind of cult like therapy) ... 'Life has never been so UNREAL' .. to me that would make a better show. ... kind of like the old Candid Camera show ... that was a funny show.

In this case it is Network Solutions ... two separate things, and company's. But, once the domain name is up for renewal, and hasn't been renewed, as in this case the web site (host) can't run the site without that name being active or renewed.

Perhaps when they started it up, the domain name was purchased and belongs to someone OTHER than this program or network. At expiration, the name comes up for bid at auction. Under small print at Network Solutions, it looks like whoever had it previously can get a 15% or 20% commission on the resale of the domain name (probably due to value added). Maybe whoever owns the domain name is looking to get a hunk of cash out of selling it if they are no longer part of the program or network. That is, if in the beginning, say a particular PR company bought this domain name, and they are no longer the PR company for this program/network. Just a possibility?

Another possibility: If they don't OWN the domain name, they cannot renew it. If someone else owns the domain name they can put it up for bid to the highest bidder. Or, they could renew it and sink the site. Or, they could bargain with B-M for use of it, etc. B-M fired the entire SO webstaff in August, perhaps this was preplanned "job security" for someone who put the domain name in their own name. It would be interesting to find out what happened. Just cannot believe they would let it lapse like this. They can renew with a phone call and credit card.

Out of curiosity, I checked out Bunim-Murray Productions website. It is not up to date, stops around 6-2005. I can't think of any reason why they would not keep their websites up to date. Other than they hired someone else and forgot? Sounds way too impossible! In 6-2003 they were getting a million hits a month on www.startingovertv.com.

I hope they show the other seasons or sell the show on DVD. There was one really good episode in Jan. or Feb. of last year where they talked about what it means to be a woman and it was excellend and I meant to save it but TiVo deleted it earlier than I expected. I wish I had a transcript, because I wanted to quote it in another discussion I was having.As for "bad time slots", etc., when I first discovered SO in season one, it was showing at 2 am. Now it's on at 9 am. I just have TiVo tape it and watch it whenever.

I doubt they will offer the show on DVD. They can do that with "primetime" shows because those only have one new episode per week. But SO has five shows per week...that would be many many DVD's per season. The only thing that might be feasible is a tightly edited "Season Highlights" DVD.

No, I never had to redesign a site to get it back up. Usually, the web hosting company keeps a backup of everything on their servers AND you keep the files on your computer as well as a backup. I'm getting the full site. Sometimes browsers will pull up the site that is in the cache if you go there regularly. Try either deleting your history/cleaning out the webpages in memory or hit refresh and see if that brings up the current site, rather than the last time you were there one.

The site is back, but they deleted the link to this website and replaced it with a general link section to: Google, Yahoo, MSN.On Google, the first link comes here.
On Yahoo, the first link goes to a divorce board, second link here.
On MSN, first link to a 1999 message board for something else, second link to here. They also disclaim any connection to any boards.
So, why do they even put message board on their site?

They used to have a message board they hosted, then they just shut that down and sent everyone here. Sounds like they still want people to know there are message boards, but that they don't run any of them. Basically at least give the people they used to serve some options.A lot of people seemed to assume that since the link went here, we were owned/affiliated with them. I know this place upset a lot of viewers, and that was voiced both here and in emails to the Starting Over producers (and I'm not sure how the legal issues suss out, basically using our bandwidth to promote their show might be iffy). Other boards had petitions to try to get their board listed instead of this one (mostly over that whole DAW thingy). Anywho, maybe this will help calm things down around here a bit since people are not being directly sent here.

What are they, too lazy to hire a couple people to run their own message board?At least maybe new readers won't be so shocked to find out not everyone is in love with everything SO does. That divorce board site will probably get some interest! I thought computers were supposed to make life simpler? You can spend literally hours trying to find something.

Five days later and SO is still not keeping their board updated. There is some updating on the houseguest portion however.
The recaps are a week old. No current front page update either.
