"Signs of Survival: San Juan del Sur"
LAST EDITED ON 10-08-14 AT 03:56 AM (EST)

Art by Karen Mackenzie

The Premise

You cannot change who you are … eventually your true nature will win out — especially when you’re deprived of food and energy and you’re out in the open, trying to figure out a way to get along with people you don’t know if you can trust. We all have our set reactions, and that’s hard to suppress. If I’m a born leader, it’s hard for me to take a back seat. If I’m a follower by nature, it’s hard for me to lead. ~ Jeff Probst

Signs of Survival uses Astrology’s Sun Sign Profiles (vetted over – literally – thousands of years)
to identify, group, chart and analyze the behavioral histories of those twelve distinct societies within the Game.
And everyone is most decidedly encouraged to join the conversation.

Note:
‘Modern’ Psychometric Profiles rely heavily upon self-reported data to come to their conclusions.
Astrology’s Sun Sign Profiles, on the other hand, rely solely upon a set of objective facts
– the month, day, year, place (and time) of birth -
to reach theirs.

However, as is the case when any methodology must rely on the most basic editions of its analytical tools to evaluate behavior,
the portrait of the individual’s inherent behavioral traits and innate characteristics produced here is far from complete.

For instance:

If we knew not only the calendar date and place of a contestant’s birth but the time of it as well,
we would know a lot more about her personality.
And if I were an Astrologer with impressive interpretive skills, we would know a lot more still.

But, although they certainly don’t do justice to either the complex personalities of the contestants
or to the exhaustive and amazingly accurate analyses of those personalities offered by professional Astrologers,
because Survivor’s stressful social cultures tend to trigger core behaviors stripped of subtlety and nuance
– and because the Series’ producers tend to cast boilerplate stereotypes -
the broad brushstrokes of Sun Sign Profiling found here do - work.

Note:
From Borneo through Heroes v Villains, I was able to rely on CBS biographies for birthdates. However, from Nicaragua forward,
I’ve had to rely on a patchwork of sources to produce what I believe are the most accurate compilations possible.

So, I am certain that my data base is no longer perfect. And with that in mind, I will ignore the issue until changes are necessary, make them when they are necessary and – carry on …

The Basics

Astrology groups personalities, first, by the common innate traits and behaviors of the natives of each of the twelve Astronomy-inspired
Sun Signs.
Keyword – Ego.

Below is a Chart that illustrates the comparative performances of the twelve Sun Signs within the Game: S1 through S28. The comparisons are made by using the percentages of each of the Sign’s natives who reached the indicated plateaus. For instance (following the Aquarius line):

Aquarius natives have played the Game forty-one times. 59% (24) of that number have reached Final Ten. 24% (10) of that number
have reached Final Four. 20% (8) of the number have reached Final Three. And 10% (4) have become their Season’s Sole Survivor.

Note the range of the performances at each milestone. And the fact that many of the Signs’ performances seem to swing dramatically
as the Game progresses. It would appear that some personalities just are better at Survivor than are others.
But do postpone arriving at conclusions just yet. Because, as you’ll see a bit later,
an individual’s chances of winning the Game is very much dependent upon
– not its varied twists and themes –
but upon its (only) three casting schemes. This is important …

Astrology then places each of the twelve in a group of three Sun Signs defined by the characteristics of one of the four Philosophy-inspired
Elements.
Keyword – Temperament.

Earth - These three practical and industrious Signs are Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo.

Water - These three emotional and intuitive Signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Fire – These three charismatic and spontaneous Signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Air – These three intellectual and balanced Signs are Libra, Gemini and Aquarius

Note:
The personalities of the three Sun Signs within
an Element are said to be compatible with each other.
And the Elements of Earth and Water (E&W) and of Fire and Air (F&A)
are considered to be complementary of one another
and in opposition to the other duo.

And in the Chart just below that illustrates the Elements' performances within the Game (S1 through S28),
is that important thing that I was talking about ...

Grouping and then analyzing the performances of Survivor’s Sun Signs by their two – Naturally/Elementally – opposed Tribes exposes
the unmistakable fact that in 86% (19 of 22) of the completed Seasons that have been cast with Majority/Minority populations
a member of the majority psychological culture won the Game.

Note:
As you can also see, San Juan del Sur’s Minority is only three members (17%) strong. And that is not particularly helpful to the task of reducing the number of this Season’s ‘eligible’ winners ! Too, we are overdue a Minority Surprise.

That said, as we wait to crown a new Sole Survivor, here (to review) are the Series’ former winners.
The three exceptions to the Majority Wins Rule have been
Tina/Capricorn (The Outback), Yul/Aquarius (Cook Islands) and Jud/Gemini (Nicaragua).

Astrology further identifies and describes each of the three Sun Signs within an Element by the Sign’s Psychology-inspired
Mode (or Quality).
Keyword: Behavior.

The initiative Cardinal Signs approach new environments with a zest for beginning new activities and pursuing new accomplishments.
Earth’s Cardinal Sign is Capricorn. Water’s Cardinal Sign is Cancer. Fire’s Cardinal Sign is Aries.
And Air’s Cardinal Sign is Libra.

The versatile Mutable Signs are able to see life from many perspectives.
As a result, they are flexible, adaptable and restless: there is a touch of urgency and haste in their natures.
Earth’s Mutable Sign is Virgo. Water’s Mutable Sign is Pisces. Fire’s Mutable Sign is Sagittarius.
And Air’s Mutable Sign is Gemini.

The steadfast Fixed Signs dig in. And they are respected for their self-containment and sense of purpose.
However, change is difficult for them, and as a result, they have a reputation for being stubborn.
Earth’s Fixed Sign is Taurus. Water’s Fixed Sign is Scorpio. Fire’s Fixed Sign is Leo.
And Air’s Fixed Sign is Aquarius.

Note:
You will see the Modes indicated for each Sun Sign within the Sun Sign Profiles and on Tribal Charts

You will also see within the Sun Sign Profiles and on Tribal Charts the Survivor-inspired
Roles.
Keyword: Place.

The Sun Sign Profiles of the Superior Signs – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth), Cancer (Cardinal Water), Scorpio (Fixed Water) and Leo (Fixed Fire) – indicate that their natives are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in a position of leadership.

The Sun Sign Profiles of the Subordinate Signs–Taurus (Fixed Earth), Virgo (Mutable Earth), Pisces (Mutable Water) and Gemini (Mutable Air)–
indicate that these personalities are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in sheltered (supportive or specialized) positions.

And the Sun Sign Profiles of the Soloist Signs – Aries (Cardinal Fire), Sagittarius (Mutable Fire), Libra (Cardinal Air) and Aquarius (Fixed Air) – indicate that these folks are most comfortable – and function most effectively – in autonomous (detached or semi-detached) positions.

Note:
The Roles are my invention and are meant to be a lay addendum to the Signs’ Astrologic identities:
a shorthand developed from their Sun Sign Profiles that uses familiar terms to indicate the hierarchal positions
most natural (and comfortable) to their natives.

LAST EDITED ON 10-15-14 AT 02:47 PM (EST)

On Being Careful What You Ask For ...

I'm a Fire native. And, because of that bias and for other reasons (the most prominent being that I think of the Game as a game and not as a morality play), through all of the Seasons from Palau forward, I've wished for an
All-Fire and Air Survivor cast. A Season (to repeat a description I used earlier in a post addressed to Veruca Salt) filled with Fire's impetuous grandstanding and Air's intellectual gymnastics. Not least because I'd love to see whether the Outwitting (Air Signs) or the Outplaying (Fire Signs) would Outlast.

The two Element duos do approach the Game so differently! And I think that the most basic way to describe that difference to to say that Fire and Air natives tend to view the Game as a performance to be perfected or as an experience to be savored. And Earth and Water Signs more often think of it as a grand task to be accomplished or as a life lesson to be mastered. All four, of course, want to win. It is just that winning is more important to the latter duo than to the former.

For instance:

Did you notice how few of Episode One's Confessionals were focused on gameplay? On winning?

Josh (a Water Sign) - yes. And Jeremy (a Fire Sign). Keith (a Fire Sign) and Valesay (a Water Sign) - perhaps. But, I'm ahead of myself (for me, a very unusual circumstance).

So, given all of the above, can you imagine how ticked I was when the most biased cast - promising the most intense internecine conflicts - in the Series' history turned up in Cagayan as a very-close-to-pristine (83% to 17% | 15 to 3) Earth and Water Majority! And how much worse it became when Cagayan turned into - if not the most - one of the most compelling and entertaining Seasons of Survivor yet: won by one of the Game's most relentless Virgo!

Note: Although, as relentless Virgo go, Parvati is a very close second.

Now, it would seem that Karma (who I imagine to be yet another of those ubiquitous relentless Virgo) being who and what she is, is not done with me. Because, here we are. With an 83% to 17% | 15 to 3) Fire and Air Majority! And I am really very afraid that for compelling entertainment it is not going to hold a proverbial candle to Cagayan.

In short: Woe, I suspect, is me!

Because there are not, as far as my eyes can see, Fire and Air versions of Tony and Kass on the horizon. While, on the other hand, Woo replacements appear to be in abundant supply.

As for direct comparisons:

Josh is a Cancer. And he is, to date, turning in a very credible portrayal of Cancer - The Familial Cardinal | Superior. But, unfortunately for the journeyman actor, he is simply on the wrong side of this Season's playbill. Reed, his partner, is this Season's lone Virgo. But, even if Earth and Water natives were not this Season's Minority, it has to be said that Reed doesn't appear to be another Tony (Winner). And Valesay was - and I'm ahead of myself again - its lone, but grievously chaos-challenged, Scorpio. Somewhere, Kass is cringing.

Note: The three are this Season's complete Minority contingent. And I'm certain that it is merely coincidental that (at least) two of Cagayan's three starring personalities (Spencer is either, like Josh - a Cancer or a Gemini) were chosen for encore performances in San Juan del Sur.

Note: If Spencer is a Gemini, Cagayan's Majority/Minority split was 78% - 22% | 14 - 4.

Note: Searching for Josh's birthday in his own and Reed's Twitter accounts, I ran across the entries that offered birthday congratulations to Reed's one-year-old dog - Broadway Beau. On February 21st (Pisces). And I am also certain that it is merely coincidental that Survivor Wiki has chosen that month and day as Josh's natal anniversary. Intelius lists July 1st (Cancer) as Josh's birthdate. And I do so hope that the last laugh is not on me.

And with that, we've arrived at the handsome Chart (don't you just love 'em all ... ) that introduces the Season's Storied Tribes as Jeff, et al would have us - ever so briefly and ever so editorially - know them.

Note: Speaking of Survivor's edited stories (), I'd like to note that, in my never-humble opinion, there is no venue dedicated to the spoiling/study of the Game's character treatments and the nuances of its editing patterns more accomplished at those tasks than (was) VerucaSalt's The Players, The Game, The Editing - I hope that she'll join us much more often this Season than she has in the recent past - and (is) Michel's The Characters and their Stories.

And because I watch the show from a very different perspective, the two have always been, to me, the most valuable resource(s) on this Board. Without them, much of Survivor would have been/be forever lost to me and, I suspect, to many others (I've always thought that it would be so interesting to know the seasonal tally if the names of every reader who opened/opens those threads each week had been/were being automatically recorded).

And that said, back to the Chart ...

The Storied Tribes

The Thing(s) About San Juan del Sur

A quick look back at the Survivor, by the Elements Chart in the introductory post to this thread tells us that we are far more accustomed to watching Earth and Water natives play - and win - the Game than we are to seeing Fire and Air-dominant Seasons. The score is 14 to 8. And because this Season's cast is so dramatically Fire and Air, I think that it is going to - for better or for worse - look quite a bit different to us than has any recent installment of the Series. But whether we are going to get a Borneo or a Fiji or an Exile Island is anyone's guess.

For instance:

I think that this Season's successful leadership is going to have to be far more inspirational than institutional. This is a cast top-heavy with stubborn, egocentric and aggressively independent souls with little tolerance for heavy-handed guidance. Too, San Juan del Sur's Subordinate cadre (the group of supporting | specializing players who are usually the building blocks and backbone of the Game's alliances) is, with one Virgo exception, peopled by Gemini. No Taurus. No Pisces.

And although Gemini has now won the Game twice - Jud ('Fabio') by default and Tyson by sheer force of will - the fact remains that Survivor is an extremely challenging environment for these usually very gifted but, also usually, very-easily-unsettled players. Gemini playing the Game are far more likely to require the shelter of an alliance than to become its mainstay. However, despite being high-maintenance alliance partners, they can also be incredibly valuable strategists and recruiters. Gemini are born with an advanced degree in Schmoozing.

Finally (for now): Within its Fire and Air Majority framework, the Modes (behavioral patterns) of San Jaun del Sur's inhabitants are relatively balanced: Seven Cardinal Signs, Six Fixed Signs and Five Mutable Signs. The same cannot be said, however, about their innate Role preferences (heirarchal tendencies). There are: Seven Superior Signs, (Only) Five Subordinate Signs and Nine Soloist Signs. 'Jockeying for position' could take on a whole new meaning this Season.

The Thing(s) about Coyopa

The Personality Mix

1. Josh | Water | Cancer | Superior - Style: (Maternal) Head of Household | Cardinal - Initiative
Cancer Keywords | Nurturing and Sensuous, Shrewd and Tenacious | Changeable and Moody, Subjective and Clannish
2. Valesay | Water | Scorpio | Superior - Style: (Aristocratic) Head of State | Fixed - Self-Contained, Purposeful and Stubborn
Scorpio Keywords | Determined and Forceful, Formidable and Passionate | Secretive and Cunning, Manipulative and Obstinate

Water Keywords | Intuitive and Emotional, Imaginative and Nurturing | Secretive and Dreamy, Introverted.
Water Profile Summary | Water Signs are empathetic. How things feel is what matters to these nurturers and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. They are extraordinarily adept at assimilating and processing the feelings of others. But, because Water natives are often assessing a situation by its undercurrents, they can seem aloof. These are people who need people but who also need the restorative balm of solitude. And going forward in a relationship or situation often means being sure of their emotional ground: a process that is baffling to more spontaneous or practical types. Too, their insight can be easily clouded by the intensity of their feelings or altered by their vivid imaginations. Also on the flip side of this fluid Element is the tendency of these individuals to brood and, at their worst, they can become self-indulgent and controlling.

3. Jaclyn | Fire | Leo | Superior - Style: (Paternal) Head of Household | Fixed - Self-Contained, Purposeful and Stubborn
Leo Keywords | Generous and Affectionate, Broadminded and Theatrical | Overbearing and Provocative, Dogmatic and Intolerant
4. Nadiya | Fire | Aries | Soloist - Style: (Heroic) Entrepreneur | Cardinal - Initiative
Aries Keywords | Adventurous and Confident, Enthusiastic and Straight-Forward | Impulsive and Insensitive, Foolhardy and Quick-Tempered

Fire Keywords | Spontaneous and Energetic, Gregarious and Passionate | Self-centered and Dramatic, Instinctual and Visionary
Fire Profile Summary | The ‘Physical’ Fire Signs are prone to sudden illuminating flashes of insight and bursts of enthusiasm. There is about them a radiance, a trust in life's journey and a willingness to take risks. But, it is important for them to have cheerleaders to fan the flames of their interests. Strong, self-assured and fun, they're great catalysts for play and have a knack for unearthing the spontaneous side of those around them. Acting on a powerful intuition (or instinct) keeps them at the leading edge of fresh experiences: mundane chores annoy them tremendously. And often seeming to be unaware of the emotional impact of their actions on others, they can be overly strident in getting their way. Selfishness and an overdeveloped ego can also be seen as part of a fiery individual's shadowy side.

5. - 6. Alec and Wes | Air | Gemini | Subordinates - Style: (Strategic) Specialist | Mutable - Flexible, Adaptable and Restless
Gemini Keywords | Adaptable and Versatile, Charming, Youthful and Lively | Superficial and Inconsistent, Rumor-Mongering
7. John | Air | Libra | Soloist - Style: (Diplomatic) Entrepreneur | Cardinal - Initiative
Libra Keywords | Easy-going and Sociable, Idealistic and Fair-minded | Indecisive and Changeable, Gullible and Easily-influenced
8. - 9. Baylor and Dale | Air | Aquarius | Soloists - Style: (Tactical) Freelancer | Fixed - Self-Contained, Purposeful and Stubborn
Aquarius Keywords | Friendly and Humanitarian, Eccentric and Intellectual | Perverse and Unpredictable, Unemotional and Detached

Air Keywords | Intellectual and Innovative, Conceptual and Analytical | Curious and Social, Cerebral and Detached
Air Profile Summary | Air Signs use their minds to make sense of their lives. So, to others, these individuals can appear detached, aloof, remote and cool. But the distance between these masters of cultural navigation and their own emotions can be refreshing. These are extremely social creatures and their currency is their ability to link diverse social groups or individuals with their often extraordinary collections of ideas, obscure facts, gossip and knowledge. And, leading with their heads, these observers of the human scene are the ‘idea’ people who, from their loftier viewpoint, are often able to offer it a fresh perspective of its problems and an innate clarity of vision that is rare among the natives of other Signs. However, these inventive and clever individuals will insist upon considering all sides of an equation before they decide on a course of action. And balance is of paramount importance to them. So they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset: there is little upside to baiting an Air Sign!

The Elemental Dynamics

There is nothing normal about Survivor. And that makes navigating its irrational, illogical and teetering-tottering physical and emotional terrains most difficult for the Air Signs who are accustomed - in the real world - to maintaining the environmental and psychological balances that are so vital to their ability to function efficiently by relying upon their patented objectivity and unparalleled skills at persuasion, negotiation and reconciliation. And, in fact, cool heads and artful tongues have been known to win the day - seven days, to be exact - even in Mark Burnett's inherently subjective fantasy world.

Eventually.

But, for now, the Air Signs of Coyopa have found in Josh Canfield (like Mr. Burnett, an imminently intuitive Cancer) a soothing font of familial understanding and concern. A benign authority figure perfectly willing to make all of the unsettling decisions that come with the storybook territory at the mere cost of their votes. So, the question is - since Josh's instinctive elimination of his competing Superior Water Sign (Valesay, and I'm ahead of myself, again!) and Fire Sign (Nadiya) hasn't, yet, further disturbed their threatened status quo - 'Why become involved in that messy process or become overly concerned with winning irrelevant Immunity Challenges so long as there is a stubbornly rogue Fire Sign (Jaclyn | Leo) left to boot?'

But, if we are to believe JP's promise of Jaclyn | Jon tumult-to-come, things could be about to change at the ersatz Canfield household.

The Thing(s) about Hunahpu

The Personality Mix

1. Reed | Earth | Virgo | Subordinates - Style: (Bureaucratic) Specialist | Mutable - Flexible, Adaptable and Restless
Virgo Keywords | Meticulous and Discriminating , Clever and Analytical | Overcritical and Harsh, Perfectionist and Conservative

Earth Keywords | Practical and Useful, Structured and Productive | Grounded and Sensual, Tactile and Dependable
Earth Profile Summary | Often referred to as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac, creativity is a tangible proposition to these natives and they feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions. Earth Signs engage life through the five senses and as a result operate at a slower, more thorough, pace than do the natives of other Elements. They are masters at assessing, assembling and organizing … things. The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. Much preferring a sure thing, these folks do not take big risks. That said, however, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal, congenial company and fine wine better than anyone else, they are also sensualists. On the flip side, Earth Signs can become so caught up in their objectives that they overlook the feelings and opinions of others and the ever-present risk inherent in their acquisitive nature is that they may become greedy and far too materialistic.

2. Keith | Fire | Leo | Superior - Style: (Paternal) Head of Household | Fixed - Self-Contained, Purposeful and Stubborn
Leo Keywords | Exuberant and Colorful, Proud and Expansive | Pompous and Patronizing, Selfish and Egotistical
3. - 5. Jeremy, Jon and Natalie | Fire | Aries | Soloists - Style: (Heroic) Entrepreneur | Cardinal - Initiative
Aries Keywords | Pioneering and Courageous, Dynamic and Quick-witted | Selfish and Dominating, Willful and Ruthless

6. - 7. Kelley and Missy | Air | Gemini | Subordinates - Style: (Strategic) Specialist | Mutable - Flexible, Adaptable and Restless
Gemini Keywords |Eloquent and Witty, Intellectual and Engaging | Nervous and Restless, Cunning and Duplicitous
8. Drew | Air | Libra | Soloist - Style: (Diplomatic) Entrepreneur | Cardinal - Initiative
Libra Keywords | Diplomatic and Urbane, Romantic and Charming | Flirtatious and Self-indulgent, Passive and Co-dependent
9. Julie | Air | Aquarius | Soloists - Style: (Tactical) Freelancer | Fixed - Self-Contained, Purposeful and Stubborn
Aquarius Keywords | Progressive and Pioneering, Original and Inventive | Intractable and Dogmatic, Isolated

So they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset: there is little upside to baiting an Air Sign!

The Elemental Dynamics

At Hunahpu, those religiously subjective, unabashedly spontaneous, totally illogical and absolutely daydream-believing Fire Signs are not outnumbered. And that makes all the difference.

That, and the fact that there are no benevolent Water Signs to bouy its numerically equal Air Signs. And the fact that whatever game Reed (the Season’s lone, objective, Earth Sign) is playing is not yet recognizable as anything remotely related to Tony’s Game.

Note: Reed heads a group of Broadway regulars (RCK Team Yellow Bucket) who are extremely successful at raising funds to assist Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. So, it will be interesting to see if that obvious connection to John Rocker’s comments in his infamous Sports Illustrated interview is made. Or ignored.

But, because the only relevant early Immunity Challenge losses are the ones that objectively threaten your logical arse, the truth is that the Virgo and Hunahpu’s Air Signs haven’t needed saviors. And very probably won’t (if there is any truth in JP’s voyeuristic promise and if San Juan del Sur’s fashion follows familiar form) until Episode Four when they are rewarded for being really good at winning the random things by having those arses, illogically, resettled with the refugees who weren’t.

For now, the show's editors appear to be telling us that Jeremy is the de facto leader of his fellow Fire natives and the tribe’s relatively invisible Air and Earth Signs. But I suspect that if a poll of the other eight players were taken, the majority would say that their Hunahpu was a coalition of independents.

Note: And if the headstrong and quick-tempered Aries – the Sign whose natives will most readily haul off and punch a nose – proposed throwing an Immunity Challenge to permit his execution of revenge at the expense of the hapless and loyal (to someone – or – someones) Julie, it will be interesting to see if that airs. Or is ignored.

In fact, I think that if Jeremy is, at any point in the Game, portrayed as the architect of Julie’s boot, it will be a clear indication that he is not the Season’s Sole Survivor.

Note: In the new Temper! Temper! Temper! Temper (Post Six) you'll find a comparison of the Elements | Temperaments that I hope you'll find interesting and helpful. I certainly did.

Note: Still confused by the Modes and Roles? Well, there's a Chart for that. Tucked just below, between The Storied Tribes and The Natural Tribes.

The Tribal Charts Legend

The Natural Tribes

Above is the Chart of the San Juan del Sur's Tribes in their natural state. When we reach the Final Ten it will become the Season's Final Tribal Chart.

and

Below is a Chart that illustrates the performances of the Signs in only the Fire and Air Majority Seasons. Note that, extraordinarily, Cancer (a Minority Sign) is an odds-on favorite to reach the Final 10. That the (Majority) Air Sign, Aquarius, tops the last column. And that the (Majority) Fire Sign, Sagittarius, is at its bottom.

Note: In the Episode Two Post, I've cleaned up this Chart by removing all of the chartlines for the Signs that were not - or are not now - in play.

The Majority Signs

Suck It Up and Survive | The Split Partnership

ARIES

These relationships are usually intense.

These are both very fiery and demanding individuals, so ego clashes are likely to dominate their partnership if they can’t calm down. They are both always sure they are right, too. So, seeing eye to eye will be difficult.

However, the Aries double has a lot going for it. For a start, both are spontaneous and impulsive. Also, both are creative individuals and sparks of inspiration will fly between them. The combination is dynamic, bold, and exciting. As partners, they will make a great impact so long as they don’t spend half their time and energy competing with each other.

But both are independent individuals who don’t like feeling that they are being ‘bossed’ by anyone and will demand to make their own decisions and to direct their own lives and associations. They will, though, usually respect one another's autonomy: a relationship that is based on excessive ‘togetherness’ and any sort of dependency wouldn't suit either.

Sometimes, though, there is too much emphasis on individualism to sufficiently support the partnership. Both are sensitive to criticism and will almost inevitably compete with each other. And while in small doses this can be invigorating, it can easily become nasty.

But if the relationship has been built on the basis that the two are equals, the Fire Element produces tremendous vision and industry and will work well to support each other’s aspirations and ambitions. If both learn to subdue ego and find common ground, it should be natural for them to encourage each other in work and social pursuits. And there is an adolescent innocence about their companionship that enables them to enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities together.

So, the relationship will work well if they support each other’s dreams and take pleasure in the aspirations and ambitions they share. Doing this will help them overcome their differences and confrontational moments, and there will definitely be some of those. So they need to find common ground, shared dreams and ideals. When they do, they just may be able to move mountains together — possibly even build an empire.

In brief: they will either respect one another immensely or detest one another – and only in rare instances will there be an ‘in between’.

Note: Given their birthdate, this Aries/Aries relationship could be a more than usually very stormy one.

G | A confession: I was very sorry to see Nadiya leave the Game. Because, orchestral screeching notwithstanding, I think that her relationship with her sister is probably the least complicated and most joyful that the Season had to offer. And I am ready for simplicity. For players who find the Game exciting and challenging. But fun. Really, really fun. Not mission. Not therapy. Not affirmation. Not salvation. Not audition. Not compulsion.

Because - scattered Tribal Councils aside - I can't remember when Survivor last aired laughter that wasn't patronizing, derisive, sardonic, dismissive or nervous.

Genuine laughter. Among happy people having a grand time at a thing that most will never have the opportunity to do again.

So, I hated to see the ever-so-rough-around-the-edges Aries - … because their approach to life is somewhat simplistic, what Aries can accomplish without a lot of distracting nuances and complexities to slow her down is staggering. Don't, however, put her in a position where she'll have to deal with complicated emotions or with a problem requiring delicate handling or subtlety. They're simply not equipped for it … - dismissed by people who are taking themselves - and their great, good fortune - much too seriously.

So, I’d love to see Natalie win the whole damned thing ...

Note: For the sake of continuity, the comments above were moved here from the Post immediately following this one. And, I suppose that I should say now that my feelings regarding Natalie winning 'the whole damned thing' have changed. Dramatically. But, again for the sake of continuity, I'll address that issue a little later.

For now:

Nadiya's boot not only disappointed me. It also surprised me. I thought that Valesay - a Scorpio (Water | Superior) inherently impelled to the top of the nearest hierarchal chart - would be Josh's greatest anxiety, and so, the first to leave Coyopa.

On the other hand, Aries - born trailblazers and catalytic entrepreneurs - are Soloists who do not see themselves anywhere on any chart. Aries are lousy personnel or project managers. They are shock and awe groundbreakers - not builders or sustainers. Fiercely independent, they thrive on challenging circumstance. And, easily bored, Aries (of those incredibly intense but disconcertingly brief attention spans) will originate conflicts and invent contests from whole cloth simply to amuse themselves. And the very social and physical imbalances in the Game's environments that the Air Signs find so difficult to navigate are just their cup of tea.

But ... Survivor is, for an Aries, a very restrictive landscape with limited dragons to slay and all of that energy can quickly make of them the village rabble: overly-aggressive, argumentative, quick-tempered and easily-offended.

And if you've read the Aries Sun Sign Profile and the list of the names of the Sign's natives who've played the Game with it - Richard, Lillian and Lilliana, Colby and Sarge, Cao-Boi, Peigh-Gee, Courtney Yates, Randy, Crystal, etc. - I know you'll be amazed when I say that Aries are not subtle ... But the truth is that Nadiya and Natalie do fit right in.

In personal relationships Aries are frank, direct and candid: gregarious and generous friends. But while an Aries is not the least bit calculating - in most instances, he'll simply tell it like it is before he's had a chance to think about the consequences - he does crave admiration and praise. So that while he won’t usually lie - in contradiction of his straightforward nature - he'll often exaggerate the truth in his own favor or simply in order to stamp it with his individuality.

Intellectually, Aries are quick-witted, usually objective, and inspirationally optimistic: irreplaceable champions of lost causes and last-ditch stands. But they can also become extremists: foolhardy and dogmatic zealots whose enormous talents and vibrant personalities become a hindrance - if not a direct threat - to the welfare of the society in which they move.

However, I suppose that it's apparent by now that I like Aries. In fact, I've met very few Aries who I didn't like at first blush. And that's so in large part because when there's an Aries present, my Sagittarian inelegance isn't the only elephant in the Tea Room. But it's also true that I've met a rather impressive number of Aries with whom I no longer have lunch.

Note: I've just finished reading one of John Rocker's exit interviews. Or, more correctly, scouting its sea of foul ******s for islands of standard English text. And one of the few things that I've been able to glean from those isolated bits of solid verbal ground - principally composed of a name - is that Mr. Rocker attributes a good many of those foul ******s to the plain-spoken ladies from Sri Lanka - land of Elephas Maximus Maximus.

The Stranded of San Juan del Sur

The Surviving Partnerships of San Juan del Sur

LEO and GEMINI

Both the Gemini and the Leo in this combination have a very childlike, playful, fun-loving side that is brought out when they are together. They both love drama and color and find one another to be companionable and interesting. Gemini is more intellectual than Leo, however, and needs a variety of people, activities, and interests in order to be happy. On the other hand, Leo wants to be the most important person in any and every social circle (small or large) and may not appreciate all of the Gemini's other interests and friendships.

Too, Leo makes commitments and keeps them better than Gemini does because Leo is less restless. Once having found something good, Leo sticks with it, and doesn't completely understand Gemini's desire for novelty. Also, Leo is very proud and has a sensitive ego, while Gemini can be a merciless teaser and doesn't always take Leo seriously. For the most part, however, these two could be great friends.

Because Gemini are essentially articulate, intellectual individuals, they will fan the flames of Leo’s fiery pride. These elements work well together. Many Air and Fire combinations have a lot going for them. The Gemini–Leo match is no exception.

However, Gemini love a variety of subjects and will flit from one to another. Leo is more inflexible and determined and may not adapt well to those mental gymnastics. Too, Leo likes to dominate a situation, and can come on a little strong. The two could find themselves one-upping each other in the attention-seeking stakes. If they can both respect each other’s need to be on life’s centre stage, they’ll complement each other well.

The warm and enthusiastic Fire of Leo is definitely inspiring and usually makes the Gemini feel that his talents are appreciated. Leo is a creative Sign, and Gemini will respect and learn from them. Again, both members of the duo express this best in a social context, as they both love the company of others.

However, Leos tend to be hard taskmasters, and fixed in their ideas. Gemini are far more pliable and adaptable and are much less likely than Leo to stick to a viewpoint just for the sake of it (though Gemini don’t mind doing this in the name of a decent debate now and then).

Gemini has a great capacity to take in and remember a host of facts and figures, and will often surprise everyone with the talent. Unfortunately, Leo will also think that many Gemini are Jacks of all trades and Masters of none. So part of his challenge will be to anchor Gemini’s flighty character and help him focus on learning a lot about one topic, rather than a little about many.

But, in matters of friendship and affection, this partnership has a high chance of succeeding. However, don’t expect the relationship to be easily maintained or without its fair share of challenges.

G |'Leo tend to be hard taskmasters and like to dominate ... situations ... the two could find themselves one-upping each other in the attention-seeking stakes. If they can both respect each other’s need to be on life’s centre stage, they’ll complement each other well.'

It is my impression that their relationship has not been an easy one for either of these two men. And, particularly for Wes, I don't think that Survivor is going to be helpful.

It is also my impression that the younger man is not authorized to commit his father to anything. To include alliances.

ARIES and SCORPIO

Both of these two are willful and passionate people with unique personalities: intense and direct. And they like that about each other. But they are also likely to disagree ferociously and often.

During those disagreements, Aries is most often up-front and blatant about his feelings. The Scorpio is secretive and subtle. However, this doesn’t mean that Scorpio won’t say what’s on her mind. She will. But she won’t always say it immediately. And while Aries can release anger and emotion and then forget about it, Scorpio nurses grudges and resentments and may hold on to the slights that Aries unthinkingly inflicts. Too, Scorpio needs to feel emotionally-bonded with friends and allies and Aries may not have the same need for closeness.

Power is the name of the game when a Scorpio and Aries combine forces. But how they use this power will determine what level of success their efforts will produce. In some cases a battle of wills is likely, as Aries have just as much fire and purposefulness as does Scorpio. So, compromise will be important if they are to work together.

But this is a fiery and dynamic combination. This Aries will not appreciate the Scorpio’s emotional-control games. Moreover, the two will irritate each other and take pleasure in proving each other wrong. This is perhaps to do with self-esteem issues. And making another person feel weaker so that you feel stronger is not a good basis for a relationship.

Aries prefers to dominate even the most casual of relationships and adores center stage. And Scorpio will let them think that they are – leading. For a while. But Aries soon discover — and this is always a shock — that the Scorpio plans to take that position in the relationship. And they plan to do it by stealth. So, if the two want the more positive aspects of the partnership to emerge and thrive, they must be careful to avoid getting into that battle of wills.

But, there are certain to be more than a few occasions when their opinions will be vastly different, because of the differences in their life perspectives. However, the bouts of very real anger that follow - when they both try to assert their superiority – are often precursors to just-as-passionate kiss-and-make-up interludes. Both Signs are ruled by contentious Mars (although the Scorpio brings to intimacy an icy depth that is difficult for the more superficial Aries to understand).

It is possible, however, that the Scorpio will be able to inspire Aries to explore beneath the surface of life’s experiences. And, at the very least, the exploration is an interesting one.

So, although obviously this is not a relationship to be entered into without a great deal of thought, it can work.

G | 'Aries prefers to dominate even the most casual of relationships and adores center stage. And Scorpio will let them think that they are – leading. For a while. But Aries soon discover — and this is always a shock — that the Scorpio plans to take that position in the relationship.'

It is easy to imagine that Mr. and Mrs. Collins sat for this portrait in prose, isn't it?

And it is also easy to imagine that $1,000,000 would be merely the down payment on the continued well being of the grandstanding Fire Sign whose braggadosio was responsible for Mrs. Collins' unscheduled banishment to Exile Island on the very first day of her Survivor master plan.

And it is also easy to imagine that we're about to see a remake of Fiji. Both Earl (of The Pose) and Jeremy (of The Pose) are Aries. And there is certainly no shortage of candidates for the role of Dre.

Keith (although it is Reed who is, like the original, a Virgo) would be perfect for Yau-Man, I think. But, then ... would the Aries or the Leo win?

Oh! On my birthdate quest, I ran across a post by someone close to Valesay (and I use her full name just because it is unique and I like it) who advised everyone who watched her boot last Wednesday to 'stay tuned': the poster 'believes that there is such a thing called Redemption Island'.

A mistake? A joke? A hint at an amusing Outcast Twist by a mistaken name? I haven't a clue. But if those departed suddenly reappear, you heard it here first ...

~ and ~

AQUARIUS and GEMINI

Although the members of these duos are very definitely different people, they might find that their basic goals and outlook in life are compatible. For instance, they have an excellent intellectual rapport. They tend to spark each other's wit and enjoy tossing ideas back and forth.

Intellectual companionship is important to them and in the other they might find a loved one whose conversation and company they enjoy. They have the potential to be very good friends, and shared viewpoints, common interests, and social activities are key elements in their relationship. Any relationship will have its challenges, but these Air natives share a pleasing over-all rapport that can help smooth over other differences.

There are always very strong links between Sun Signs who have the same Element. And a combination of Aquarius and Gemini is a strong one that may play out in important periods of their lives and at the most coincidental of times. Similar in nature, they will often feel an immediate connection. And being a rebel at heart, the Aquarius is very often the one who attracts and holds the Gemini’s fascinated interest. A law unto themselves, Aquarius bring a lot of energy to any relationship. And, while that means great communication, it also feeds Gemini’s own restless spirit. So the strength of the relationship often rests on their understanding of each other as communicators – and they are certainly great talkers.

However, the way that they express ideas will be slightly different. Gemini’s very happy to jump from one topic to another like a butterfly. They often lack the depth and focus of Aquarius (who has a deeper concentration and tends to savor the facts rather than move constantly on to new themes). And the Gemini will learn that the Aquarius also insists on a focused way of dealing with people. But one of the reasons that the two go well together is that they both are attracted to people generally. Gemini will respect the Aquarius and the Aquarius will very probably inspire the Gemini.

They will learn a lot from each other.

LIBRA and GEMINI

A fantastic combination of Sun Signs! This blend of Air Signs is an inspiring one and likely to be a terrific partnership from the beginning and for the long term.

The planets Venus and Mercury rule Libra and Gemini respectively and are planetary buddies. And the Astrological Dictum says ‘As above, so below’. And that means that Libra and Gemini easily form friendships that are truly quite special.

The Air Signs are naturally intellectual, so Gemini compliments Libra’s pursuit of knowledge and communication. The Libra can learn a lot from them and may even see them as a teacher. There could be an intellectual or educational aspect to the way they interact with one another.

It is quite possible for the two to share a great social life : spending many happy hours in the company of friends and in artistic surroundings. They may both enjoy theatre and may even actively dabble in the Arts. But even though Libra like being busy, Gemini can sometimes be too quick and restless for even the fastest Libra pace. They seem to be doing a million and one things at once. And although Libra is very considerate and will compromise readily, they will also always feel the need to address numerous possibilities or desirable alternatives when considering choices. So both often have trouble being decisive or making up their minds.

The two Signs have an excellent mental rapport and enjoy one another's intelligence, wit, and style. Both are very social creatures who thrive on interaction with people, cultural activities and conversation.

LIBRA and AQUARIUS

Libra and Aquarius are usually very socially-involved people who are extremely active in community affairs. And often the work that they choose brings them into contact with even more of the members of that community. They harmonize well with each other and are great friends.

And Aquarius is very attached to clubs, social groups, and colleagues. So much so that occasionally Libra may feel that she needs friends more than a partner. In fact, Libra most often devotes much more attention to any close relationship than does Aquarius. This difference in orientation is fairly subtle, however, and may not be a source of difficulty or conflict. They both tend to live in their mind and appreciate a partner who is alive mentally - an intellectual peer. Fortunately, they have this in one another.

And Libra often adore the off-beat antics of Aquarius. There is a natural and romantic connection between the two and Aquarius has a touch of added flair that Libra finds very attractive. They’re quite likely to hit it off immediately and know that there’s something pretty special going on between them.

The Aquarian temperament has a broad social view — it incorporates global humanitarian concern – and Libra and Aquarius can be a perfect union of communication and social conscience. Libra are born diplomats and Aquarius is a revolutionary: both are keen to develop and continue to maintain their intellectual skills. This means they could come up with some rather unusual political or social ideologies as a couple — current affairs will be a hot topic — but even leaving aside these issues, there’ll be plenty of magical moments between them when they get into discussion.

But, because both of them have unconventional views on love and marriage, Libra can be just a little coy about marriage (rather than seriously committed to non-commitment, which is the Aquarius position). And while the Libra may have some harmless flirtations, that’s probably not going to be enough rebellion against conformity for the avant -garde Aquarian.

And they’ll probably push Libra to explore this viewpoint further. Perhaps the relationship should become a more serious, conventional affair: but at the cost of being independent and free? If both have sown their wild oats they’ll have a lot more going for them and could (or should) be ready to consider a more traditional model of commitment.

CANCER and VIRGO

This partnership is a rich combination of the two Signs ruled by the Moon and Mercury respectively. Cancer and Virgo in combination produce great results on all levels of experience.

Expect great friendship and understanding from this recipe, but the Virgo will sometimes have trouble understanding the Cancer’s mood swings. Virgo will say, ‘Think things through and don’t be so emotional about it’, and the Cancer will reply, ‘But can’t you feel what I’m feeling?’

They are at opposite ends of the spectrum: Cancer – emotional - and Virgo - practical. But Cancer is a friendly Sign, so Virgo will, over time, learn to be more responsive. And Cancer can become more reasonable – like Virgo.

However, the Virgo tendency to criticize and resolve can become quite a problem: The Cancer is often too vulnerable for their ruthless and incessant demand for perfection.

And both are inclined to mood changes that, at times, can irritate each other. For example, as Cancer experiences periods of melancholy, tenderness, concern, worry, nostalgia and sentimentality, Virgo may find it difficult to understand or sympathize with the Water native. And Virgo can suddenly become irritated and irascible over minor annoyances and, during them, become capable of intense sarcasms and criticisms that can be extremely disconcerting to the Cancer’s tender, sensitive feelings.

So, Virgo must be prudent, and Cancer must strive to be forgiving when things go a little awry.

However, both are also capable of enormous devotion and taking care of one another comes naturally to each of the two.

G | 'So, Virgo must be prudent, and Cancer must strive to be forgiving when things go a little awry.'

Every now and then there is a Season when I really wish that my heretic desire to see just one Game played on a point system that allowed us to enjoy all of the tribal and personal dynamics it generates for the full thirty-nine days - no boots/high score wins - would come true. And this is one of those 'right' Seasons. And Blood v Water is certainly the 'right' format.

And while I've already said that I'm not at all sure that San Juan del Sur is going to measure up to Cagayan, I do think that - if only because we're being treated to a cast of new faces - it will prove to be a much better Season than Blood v Water I.

As for this partnership:

The odds are more than convincing that neither Reed nor Josh is going to win the Game. In fact, as the Chart featuring the histories of the Signs' performances in Fire and Air-dominant Seasons (above) indicates, the odds are that Josh will make the Final Ten and that Reed will not. But my husband was a Cancer and my youngest daughter is a Virgo. And while watching the two dance ever-so-delicately around their myriad sensitivities wasn't always pretty, it was always mesmerizing. So I hope that we'll see some of Josh and Reed ... together.

ARIES and LEO

Both are independent, self-motivated individuals who are very much concerned with their own creative work and interests and prefer not to feel as though they "own" each other. Aries, however, often acts in a manner that is socially inappropriate while Leo is more aware of appearances and is more concerned with the response of others. He is somewhat indifferent to other people's opinions, while she craves approval and affirmation from her peers and public.

They are also both immensely proud and neither wants to take the back seat in this relationship. And although there is a great deal of harmony between them, being two spirited and somewhat volatile people, when they do clash their disagreements are likely to be dramatic and … loud. So, others can, unfortunately, get caught in the middle of their ferocious battles of will. Too, because in the extreme the combination of two Fire Signs can be very explosive, such a relationship will more than likely burn at least one … out.

The elemental combination of Aries Fire with Leo Fire is, however, an excellent one. There seems to be an immediate attraction and an immediate understanding of each other’s personality. This combination works on every level: physically, mentally and emotionally. Even the duo’s spiritual sides will be inspired by each other.

Both driven individuals with strong creative impulses, they are well placed to understand and support each other’s ambitions. And when they do help each other, they will both succeed in achieving their own individual long-term goals. The two of can work as a great team.

But the Aries must understand that Leo is a proud and dominating sign, similar to his own. So, the partnership must be built on respect for each other, because the question of who will rule the roost is likely to eventually surface. When this competitiveness gets going, one of the two will have to give in. But as long as both individuals maintain that respect for the other and approach these showdowns in a sporting, fun way, the tug-of-war can be stimulating.

Romantically, the common Element of Fire promises a rich and rewarding relationship. This is an extremely compatible Sun Sign combination.

G | ' They are also both immensely proud and neither wants to take the back seat in this relationship. And although there is a great deal of harmony between them, being two spirited and somewhat volatile people, when they do clash their disagreements are likely to be dramatic and … loud. So, others can, unfortunately, get caught in the middle of their ferocious battles of will. Too, because in the extreme the combination of two Fire Signs can be very explosive, such a relationship will more than likely burn at least one … out.'

It seems that our host has already told his audience that we are going to witness a clash - or several - between Jon and Jaclyn. And, considered with the 'after' photos of a very thin Jon, his comments support the prevailing theory that at least one of this duo lasts far into the Season.

Because I enjoy watching both Aries and Leo play the Game, I don't mind a bit if we're 'caught in the middle' of a real donnybrook.

EXPERT OPINION WELCOMED

Prerequisite – Birth

Earlier I said:

And then I said, with tongue invisibly in cheek:

Note: The three are this Season's complete Minority contingent. And I'm certain that it is merely coincidental that (at least) two of Cagayan's three starring personalities (Spencer is either - like Josh, a Cancer - or a Gemini) were chosen for encore performances in San Juan del Sur.

So, since in Method to my Madness yet another Scorpio woman left the Game in its early stages, I thought I’d use that group of players to illustrate the point that I was trying to make earlier and didn’t: That some Signs have become virtually synonymous with a stock Survivor Character.

And Scorpio women are an excellent example of the phenomenon:

Thirty-eight Scorpio natives have played the Game. Twenty-six of that number have been women. And that gender imbalance is the first fact-not-appearing-in-nature about Survivor’s Scorpio women.

Julia | RaceCar Driver
Stephanie | Firefighter
Valesay | Police Officer
Amy | Police Officer
Tina | Logger
Heidi | Teacher
Jan | Teacher
Roxanne | Seminary Student
Christa | Programmer
Jolanda | Attorney
Francesca | Attorney
Kass | Attorney
Candice | Physician
Janet | Nurse
Mary | Business Owner
Brenda | Business Owner
Stacey | Funeral Director
Sarah D | Jewelry Designer
Trish | Sales
Katie | Pageant Executive
Scout | Entrepreneur
Dolly | Shepherd
Kimmi | Bartender
Carolina | Bartender
Brianna | Waitress
Susie | Hairdresser

SCORPIO

Of the thirty-eight Scorpio who have played the Game, five - Ethan, Gervase, Tom, Brenda and Francesca - have played it twice. Candice has played the Game three times. So that, of the 45 appearances by Scorpio in the Game to date, 30 (67%) were by Scorpio women. But only six Scorpio have reached its Final Three: Ethan, Gervase (In Blood v Water I), Jan, Scout, Susie and Kass. And only one (again, Gervase in Blood v Water I) has reached the Final Three in a Fire and Air Majority Season.

So, as the graphic below illustrates, that record of performance within the Game by Scorpio is one of the worst among the Sun Signs. And that is the second fact-not-appearing-in-nature about Survivor's Scorpio women. Success eludes them. Pretty totally.

And that has come to mean that the women described in this Profile -

Scorpio are the most profound and powerful characters in the Zodiac. There is a harnessed aggression, an immense forcefulness, magnetic attraction and often strangely hypnotic quality in their tranquil, but watchful, composure that can be intimidating. An outer mask of cool control belies a vast and often turbulent psychic interior. In a word, the Scorpio is intense, and works best in a crucible of pressure and uphill challenges. Without a sense of purpose, the darker emotions can take hold and lead them down the paths of obsession, jealousy and worse.

In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous. And in their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity. Yet those who know them will recognize the ever-probing, ever-evaluating observation that is an integral component of their character. They intuitively take in everything around them and reveal very little in return. And don’t expect instant friendship here, as it takes time to win the trust of the wary Scorpio -

are the go-to group when Survivor's casting mavens are looking for that assertive/colorful - but too abrasive/offbeat for the neighborhood - stereotype to add a bit of spice to a Season.

And that when we see Scorpio | Water | Fixed | Superior attached to a new female castmember's name, we can be pretty totally certain that she isn't going to be the Season's Sole Survivor. Or even reach the Final Ten.

However, you'll know that I'm rooting for her. There was a Susie. There was a Kass. There is hope.

G | Along with almost everyone else, I’m baffled by Valesay's gameplay.

Because, as most of you know, Scorpio is the Sign that houses more of the planet’s geniuses than does any other. So, even after taking into consideration the fact that the intense, secretive and innately distrustful Scorpio personality is responsible for one of the Game’s three worst performance records and the fact that – for so many Scorpio women – the first few Tribal Councils of their Season were their own personal minefields, it still remains that Valesay may have survived Coyopa’s second visit to television’s most iconic set if it were not for behavior that – even for an intrigue-addicted Scorpio – was nothing short of bizarrely self-defeating.

So I wish that, before writing this, I’d had the time to review her post-boot interviews. But I have watched her interactions with John Rocker several times. And, to me, the separate interludes seem strangely edited. For instance:

At the well there is a point when its seems that Valesay is speaking in confessional. But the voiceover (with her back to the camera) concludes with what sounds like a direct instruction to John to find his own Idol and save himself. And then there is that short piece when she is being told by John to play her fantasy Idol (or two) and during what seems to be a golden opportunity to confess her lie and attempt to move to a Plan B, it would appear that she said … nothing.

Undoubtedly, the edit is favorable to John Rocker. And because it is, it is detrimental to the viewers’ good opinion of the lyyyyy-ing Valesay and of the unjustly vengeful Jeremy - whether or not the latter was mistakeningly so.

And I can imagine no reason for an overtly pro-JR editorial manipulation of events other than to shield the pitcher’s image from the revelation that he chose not to expose and play his Idol in order to save Valesay from elimination.

But as soon as I type those words, I’m reminded that John Rocker is a Libra. And even the most tortured versions of the Libra personality have an innate sense of fair play. One written in their own locked and labyrinth rulebook, to be sure. But fair play nonetheless.

So, I really do think that had it been the only way to keep his word the former Brave would have sacrificed the HII. If not because of those inner scales in his psyche then for a few column inches of redemptive press. Because there has to be some rational reason that John Rocker agreed to appear on Survivor.

NEXT on SURVIVOR

Two of Josh’s and Baylor’s most threatening opponents
have left the Game.

And it looks as though it is time for another to go.

Although I’ll continue to fill in the blanks here - I’m determined to be caught up just once - in the meantime I think that the graphics in Method to My Madness are self-explanatory and, I’d like to think, thought-and-comment-provoking on their own merit. So, I ‘ll take a stab at the evening’s question before it’s too late:

First, without belaboring the details at the moment, it should be said that a Cancer (Josh) and Aquarius (Baylor) partnership is not a particularly fortunate arrangement. And I’ll have more to say about that a bit later.

Be that as it may:

I’ve already mentioned (in the preceding post) that I don’t think that Josh could rely on Wes to deliver his father to an eight-person (game-dominating) alliance. Unfortunately for the Cancer, I think that he may have been convinced of the opposite. I do think, though, that Baylor would have been able to bring along Missy. And Josh, whether accurately or not, would have certainly felt that he could rely on Reed for a fifth and sixth. So, in the moment, what other remaining pair would Baylor and Josh have preferred to court for that fourth vote in the final Tribal Council before a tribal realignment that I’m certain the two anticipated?

Or, put another way, which remaining partnership would they have most wished to see ended?

And that short list, I think, would consist of Jaclyn and Jon – the two unpredictable Fire Signs - for the strategically focused Baylor and Alec and Drew – the two free-spirited and showy Air Signs – for the intuitively private, possessive and vain Josh.

The Boot in Actions vs Accusations: Alec.

G (Earlier) |'Leo tend to be hard taskmasters and like to dominate ... situations ... the two could find themselves one-upping each other in the attention-seeking stakes.

G (Earlier) | 'So, Virgo must be prudent, and Cancer must strive to be forgiving when things go a little awry.'

G (Earlier) | ' They are also both immensely proud and neither wants to take the back seat in this relationship.

Carrying Out and Carrying On

The trouble with saying a lot
– particularly if you’re a Sagittarius –
is that then there is so much
to explain about,
to expand upon
and to take back.

But I think that I’ll begin
with this remark about Josh and Baylor:

First, without belaboring the details
at the moment,
it should be said that
a Cancer (Josh) and Aquarius (Baylor)
partnership is not
a particularly fortunate arrangement.

And I’ll have more to say about that
a bit later.

Carrying Out

And now it's later and I wish I hadn't said that. Because, despite the fact that every Cancer | Aquarius Compatibility Chart that I’ve ever read is a cautionary tale and that treatments of the relationship between the two Elements – Water and Air – are much more of the same, I was reminded of the partnership of JT (Cancer) and Stephen (Aquarius) this week. And that pretty much trumps the rest.

But, just in case there are one or two of those cynical Cancer about, here is a very heavily edited version of the rest. And the link to the discussion of Air and Water Incompatibility found in Post Six:

Cancer is much more relationship-oriented than is Aquarius. And while Aquarius if a very friendly Sign, its natives do not become as emotionally involved in family and friends as does Cancer and tends to have much broader tastes and interests. Too, Cancer is much more likely to become attached to physical surrounding and possessions and takes much longer to become acclimated to hew places and people. So Cancer natives tend to live and work in one place for greater lengths of time. Aquarius, on the other hand, is more willing to follow whatever direction that career changes and other demands necessitate and finds transitions to new environments much easier.

And the Cancer tendency to reason – emotionally – is difficult for an Aquarius to accommodate. So much so that the Aquarian will seldom be persuaded by Cancer’s arguments. Too, Cancer is much more concerned with financial and material security and much more inclined to worry if circumstances and routines are not stable and secure. Cancer needs to be needed and requires a greater level of emotional commitment to the partnership than Aquarius may be capable of giving. In short, this combination of personalities often produces a very volatile, high-strung relationship.

Note: The Baylor | Josh collaboration is particularly problematic. Her birthdate is indicative of a very unsettled and unpredictable Aquarius nature that can be particularly exhausting – and exasperating – for Cancer.

Next on the list of things that I wish I hadn’t said is virtually everything that I did say in last week’s NEXT on SURVIVOR. Because, as usual – back to the Sagittarian in me – I talked myself into constructing a grand scheme of things much broader in scope than the players ever had in mind.

Or, put more accurately, perhaps: I fell for Josh’s declaration of his intent to “Change the Game!” when what he really had his heart set on were some minor renovations at Coyopa. And my version featured a Baylor and Josh negotiation that culminated with Alec’s boot:

So, in the moment, what other remaining pair would Baylor and Josh have preferred to court for that fourth vote in the final Tribal Council before a tribal realignment that I’m certain the two anticipated? Or, put another way, which remaining partnership would they have most wished to see ended?, I asked.

And that short list, I think, would consist of Jaclyn and Jon – the two unpredictable Fire Signs – for the strategically focused Baylor and Alec and Drew – the two free-spirited and showy Air Signs – for the intuitively private, possessive and vain Josh, I answered.

Georg longs for the cellar, Tribe observed.

Next on the carry out list are two related comments. The first could be considered salient – even prescient - had it not been inadvertently and obviously so. The latter, it has become clear, is just plain wrong:

1)But, if we are to believe JP's promise of Jaclyn | Jon tumult-to-come, things are about to change at the ersatz Canfield household.

2) (B)ecause the only relevant early Immunity Challenge losses are the ones that objectively threaten your logical arse, the truth is that the Virgo - Reed - and Hunahpu’s Air Signs haven’t needed saviors. And very probably won’t until Episode Four when they are rewarded for being really good at winning the random things by having those arses, illogically, resettled with the refugees who weren’t.

Finally, there is the thing I most wish I hadn’t said:

I think that (Nadiya’s) relationship with her sister is probably the least complicated and most joyful that the Season had to offer. And I am ready for simplicity. For players who find the Game exciting and challenging. But fun. Really, really fun … (For) genuine laughter. Among happy people having a grand time at a thing that most will never have the opportunity to do again ... So, I’d love to see Natalie win the whole damned thing ...

I suppose that it's apparent by now that I like Aries. In fact, I've met very few Aries who I didn't like at first blush. And that's so in large part because when there's an Aries present, my Sagittarian inelegance isn't the only elephant in the Tea Room. But it's also true that I've met a rather impressive number of Aries with whom I no longer have lunch.

It took a lot to make me, however conditionally, admire John Rocker. And it took a lot to make me, however temporarily, dislike Aries. But Natalie (Aries) and Jeremy (Aries) accomplished both.

So I do not want to see either of the two win – anything. And I was never going to have lunch with either of them – anyway.

Carrying Out and Carrying On

It is also easy to imagine that
we're about to see a remake
of Fiji.

Both Earl of The Pose
and Jeremy of The Pose
are Aries.

Carrying Out

And it was easy to imagine it: Keith - although it is Reed who is, like the original, a Virgo - would be perfect for Yau-Man, I think. But, then ... would the Aries or the Leo win?

Carrying On

But, following the John Rocker boot, other impressions suddenly became far more relevant:

For now, the show's editors appear to be telling us that Jeremy is the de facto leader of his fellow Fire natives and the tribe’s relatively invisible Air and Earth Signs. But I suspect that if a poll of the other eight players were taken, the majority would say that their Hunahpu was a coalition of independents.

Or ignored.

There are two Gemini at Hunahpu to whom social harmony – tribal and/or alliance stability – is vitally important: Kelley and Missy. Too, structure, efficiency and practicality are inherently essential to Reed’s – Virgo – sense of social order.

And although Aquarius – Julie – are natural social rebels, they are also usually very adept at identifying the course of action most beneficial to their own good fortune.

Natalie and Jon - Aries – are far more comfortable with risk.

So, if the friction at Hunahpu becomes a three-way – Aries | Leo | Libra – contest for the Tribe’s loyalty, I think that the profiles and pictures don’t lie. Keith wins.

But, although I would rather it was the latter, I have no idea whether Drew or Jeremy ultimately – loses.

Note: During the evening, I’ll post my comments regarding John Rocker’s boot in particular, Libra in Survivor in general and the Libra | Aquarius relationship - especially. I really don’t want to rush any of them. Too, I hope to do something on the growing group of Stranded players left in the Game.

G (earlier)| 'So, Virgo must be prudent, and Cancer must strive to be forgiving when things go a little awry.'

G (earlier) | ' They are also both immensely proud and neither wants to take the back seat in this relationship.

11. "Episode Four: We're a Hot Mess"
LAST EDITED ON 10-24-14 AT 02:45 AM (EST)

Hooray!

At long last, this post's heading and graphic and chronological order
all accurately advertise its contents:

A look back at Episode Four and a look forward to Episode Five.

And there is more to feel good about
regarding the state of Sun Signs in San Juan del Sur.

So I’ll start with an early observation from this Season's Signs of Survival
- and comparatively -
a quote from an Entertainment Weekly piece by Liz Raftery
introduced to this week’s Titles, Tweets and Teases
by Flowerpower.

From The Episodes @ The Thing(s) about San Juan del Sur:

A quick look back at the Survivor by the Elements Chart in the introductory post to this thread tells us that we are far more accustomed to watching Earth and Water natives play - and win - the Game than we are to seeing Fire and Air-dominant Seasons.

From Entertainment Weekly | Jeff Probst:

”This is a very unorthodox season," Probst says. "Some seasons just roll along and you can almost predict it. This season, I couldn't have predicted the way it was going to go. I would have never predicted who was going to win or be in at the end. And I hope that's the same journey that the audience has. Just so many weird things happen. Tribes have issues that they have to deal with me about, and they're losing things and wanting to trade for things and running out of things. It was just a constant, daily, 'What? What happened now?' I think there are a lot of things we haven't seen in a while, and I think the audience is going to enjoy it. I think it's going to feel refreshing and different."

Wow!

It is so seldom that, however inadvertently, we are treated to such a straight-forward confirmation of the fact that the ultimate portrayal of a Season’s circumstances and personalities is, in fact, a fairly candid one.

A fact that I believe is so because the traits and behaviors of Fire and Air natives are so very different than those of Earth and Water personalities that, given such a dominant majority, a ‘refreshing and different’ Game face was inescapable – despite the Series’ evolved format. And I’ve put it that way because, in its early Seasons, Survivor’s emphases on its physical challenge, its exotic locations and its primitive symbolism were a natural platform – a commanding backdrop - for those traits. So that, even in those Seasons with an Earth and Water Majority, they were a prominent – and positive - feature of Survivor lore.

But, as the utility of formula replaced the fun of fantasy and Survivor became less contest than conflict – more social experiment than exclusive adventure – and Earth and Water Majorities became its more normal than not casting choice - Fire and Air hallmarks - when they were given a face or voice at all - were more often than not portrayed as pigeonholes of poor game play, or of irrelevant comic relief, or of embarrassing social naïveté.

But it would seem that, in San Juan del Sur, all of those Fire and Air behaviors – evidently, principal among them those natives’ notorious lack of attention to detail, irreverence of rules, disconcerting verbal spontaneity and tendency to seat-of-the-pants allegiance – were just too prevalent to airbrush away.

And I think that’s great …

However, appearing as it does on the heels of a truly classic display of far more ‘orthodox’ Earth and Water gamesmanship in Cagayan, I’m still not certain that the very different San Juan del Sur will hold its own.

That said:

Just below is the bloc of Tribal Charts featuring the last look at the original configurations of Coyota and Hunahpu and – following the two – the Legend for the Modes and Roles.

Too, because I’ve learned to trust Michel’s published observations of any given Season’s edited – and editing – dynamics far more than I trust those of Jeff Probst, I’ve also included in the bloc a portion of his latest post to Survivor 29: The Characters and their Stories along with a bit more of my own earlier comment – again, from The Episodes @ The Thing(s) about San Juan del Sur.

I think that these independent views of its social landscape from two very different vantage points may both be helpful in solving San Juan del Sur.

The Storied Tribes

Michel: Asked who didn’t get along, Missy said that there were many chiefs and not enough Indians. She said probably half the tribe was selfish … She is one of the few Indian, certainly not a chief but she looked like the Indian in waiting, the one that will let the chiefs kill each other … Since we heard that there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians, the stage is set for a follower to take the spoils from the battle between leaders. Who will it be? …

What I liked most about Missy was that she was presented as the one that knew the most but let the others slowly come to the same realization. Right now, Missy holds all the cards because she is trusted by everyone. Even Drew told her about his idea to eliminate Kelley. Granted, he didn’t think her vote would matter but he didn’t want to keep her out of the loop which means something in this game. I’ll want to see how the swap turns out but, right now; I have to think that Missy could be our Sole Survivor.

G: … The Modes (behavioral patterns) of San Jaun del Sur's inhabitants are relatively balanced. There are seven Cardinal Signs, six Fixed Signs and five Mutable Signs. The same cannot be said, however, about their innate Role preferences (hierarchal tendencies). There are: four Superior Signs, (only) five Subordinate Signs and nine Soloist Signs. 'Jockeying for position' could take on a whole new meaning this Season ...

I think that this Season's successful leadership is going to have to be far more inspirational than institutional. This is a cast top-heavy with stubborn, egocentric and aggressively independent souls with little tolerance for heavy-handed guidance. Too, San Juan del Sur's Subordinate cadre is, with one (grounded) Virgo exception, peopled by (restless) Gemini.

No (salt-of-the-earth)Taurus.

No (compliant) Pisces

And although Gemini has now won the Game twice - Jud ('Fabio') by default and Tyson by sheer force of will - the fact remains that Survivor is an extremely challenging environment for these usually very gifted but, also usually, very-easily-unsettled players. Gemini playing the Game are far more likely to require the shelter of an alliance than to become its mainstay. However, despite being high-maintenance alliance partners, they can also be incredibly valuable strategists and recruiters. Gemini are born with an advanced degree in Schmoozing.

Note: A spelling error and a math error were corrected. And descriptors were added to the three Sun Signs.

So, if you think that Alec, Wes, Reed, Missy and Kelley are this Season’s natural Indian | Follower | Subordinate contingent – and Michel may well have a very different ‘few’ Indians (in addition to Missy) in mind – then a) there certainly are more Chiefs – Cardinal and Fixed Superiors and Soloists – than there are Indians - Mutable Subordinates - in San Juan del Sur and b) with a grand total of only one Tribal Council vote cast against the five to date, the heated contests surrounding them have left these Indians virtually unscathed.

So, it just may be that – coincidental – coups are afoot!

Be that as it may:

Although Tyson’s (Gemini) performance in Blood v Water (I) – also cast with a Fire and Air Majority – is an impressive precedent, I am still reluctant to think of any one of this Season’s Gemini as its Sole Survivor. But, of the four, I think of Kelley (in addition to Missy) as the most viable candidates for the role. Or that, at the least, it is probable that both of the women survive far into the Game. And that is because Drew has, in exit interviews with Reality TV World and on Survivor Live a) challenged his audience to ‘watch what Kelley does now' to San Juan del Sur’s better players (specifically placing himself, Jon and Jeremy in that category) and b) identified Kelley as this Season’s ‘biggest player’.

And Drew is, like John Rocker, a Libra – to whom his own highly-personalized code of fair-play and the vindication of his opinions and choices are very important. In other words, I don’t think that Drew would deliberately leave himself vulnerable to any further ‘bad press’ in order to assist CBS in its mission to misdirect.

Irrelevant Note: For the past few months, I’ve spent some time watching the live feed of the now-concluded Oscar Pistorius trial from Pretoria, South Africa. And a few days ago, the State’s Prosecutor congratulated the presiding Judge on the occasion of her birthday. Thus identifying the black, female jurist as a Libra (the Sign under which, more than under any other, Judges are born). And I thought of the former MLB pitcher …

Too (before we move on to the self-explanatory Chart of the performances of the – only six of twelve – Sun Signs remaining in the Game):

Of the five duos remaining in the Game, four are natural Superior | Subordinate – or – Soloist | Subordinate relationships:

Keith (Leo – Fire – Superior) | Wes (Gemini – Air – Subordinate)

Josh (Cancer – Water – Superior) | Reed (Virgo – Earth – Subordinate)

Baylor (Aquarius – Air – Soloist) | Missy (Gemini – Air – Subordinate)

– and –

Dale (Aquarius – Air – Soloist) | Kelley (Gemini – Air – Subordinate).

And, I’ve always thought that coming into a Season of Survivor as one member of a dedicated Superior/Soloist | Subordinate partnership would be an answer to prayer. But, I’m beginning to think that – were I a member of several of the partnerships playing in this Season – I might consider returning to my knees when it finally came time to actually play - together.

Because this Season’s potpourri of Fire and Air personalities make of it the most unpredictable-to-chaotic installment of Survivor thus far. And Air Signs in general – ½ the cast – do not function well in unpredictable-to-chaotic environments. Gemini in particular find Survivor – any Survivor – especially difficult. And difficulty shared is one thing. Difficulty doubled is another.

Too, although the Fire Signs are much better equipped to deal with psychological and physical mayhem than are the Air Signs, Leo’s exaggerated egocentricity and Aries’ pugnacious approach to social interaction can make partnership with these Fire natives challenging. Even under the best of circumstances. No matter your Sign. And, on that note, we have been promised a front-row seat for the fireworks to come from Jaclyn (Leo – Fire - Superior) and Jon (Aries – Fire – Soloist)

As for Josh (Cancer – Water – Superior) and Reed (Virgo – Earth – Subordinate):

In addition to their status as the remaining two of an initial three-member Earth and Water Minority – a circumstance which, barring a minor miracle, made winning the Game a practical impossibility – there are indications in Jeff Probst’s assessment of their partnership and in Drew’s comments regarding Reed during his exit interviews that their Game experience may have been less than a net positive for the two.

So, the question becomes, as so many others have noted, is it better to be single?

And the best answer that I have, so far, is that I think that a Fire native – Keith, Jaclyn, Jeremy, Jon or Natalie will win the Game. And – giving Jeff Probst’s assertion that he could never have predicted San Jaun del Sur’s Sole Survivor before the Game began far more weight than it probably deserves – the list would be pared to Keith, Jaclyn and Natalie. I also think that it is possible that Jaclyn and Jon reached the Final Two/Three together. And I don’t think that it is possible that any other couple managed to make it that far.

Note: Sandra – in Heroes vs Villains – was the last Fire Native to win the Game. Since then Capricorn (Earth) have won three times, Gemini (Air) have won twice and Cancer (Water), Virgo (Earth) and Aquarius (Air) have each won one Season. So a win by a Fire personality would, indeed, be a ‘refreshing and different’ conclusion to the contest.

The Split Partnerships

G | I just wanted to point out that, of the two, the Libra personality is much more the obvious romantic. And that Julie’s public display of equanimity in the face of John’s expulsion from the Game came … naturally. From the Aquarius Profile:

Noted for their altruistic and progressive natures, Aquarius possess strong-willed, forceful and attractive personalities that present themselves as one or the other of two core types: the first shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the second exuberant, lively and exhibitionist. Both types are humane, frank, serious-minded, genial, refined and often ethereal and idealistic. The last quality, however, is tempered with a sensible practicality …

Too, despite the magnetic, forthcoming and open personality of the extrovert Aquarius and the humanistic traits of both types, neither makes friends readily … and are sometimes accounted condescending and cold … they are fiercely independent. They dislike interference by others, however helpfully intended, and will accept it only on their own terms. But once they decide that another is worthy of their friendship, Aquarius are tenacious and extraordinarily loyal compatriots. However, if they are deceived their anger is terrible. And if disillusioned … Aquarius do not forgive.

Aquarius work most effectively within a group environment provided that they are recognized as having a leading role in the project. They’re tuned into a different frequency, and have a vast mindscape that seems to make them self-sufficient. In other words, they’re happy to spend time alone. Yet as a sign of paradoxes, the Aquarius is also drawn to groups and “communities.” Able to quickly identify the undercurrents of gatherings, they are adept at helping people act together to accomplish a goal.

G | Stressed and seeking the reassurance of an indulgent audience, Gemini can revert to an unfortunate habit of attempting to embellish their own good qualities by denigrating the behavior of others close to them. Or to camouflage their own faults with exaggerations and lies. From the Gemini Profile (Note: As we heard about his own admirable industry, Alec managed to persuade Baylor to do the chores – and – we have not seen him build an incredible shelter):

Gemini … (are) elusive, complex and contradictory. To them, life is a game that must always be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment and free of labor and routine. They’re great wits and their interest in people often thrusts them into the role of social ice breaker.

Their good qualities are attractive and come easily to them. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful – provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts. And in social situations, even at their worst they are never dull - there is usually playfulness below the surface and they can be exhilarating conversationalists. However, (they are) often referred to as the dilettantes of the Zodiac because they’ll try anything once … and that innate quality can make these natives seem restless and inconsistent …

(And) be warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

Gemini have a keen and intuitive intelligence. (And), although their intellect is strongly analytical and sometimes gives them so great an ability to see both sides of a question that they vacillate and find it hard to make decisions, their cleverness and ingenuity may also very well be used to control and unify the duality of their natures into a most efficient unit. If faced with difficulties, they have little determination to worry at a problem until they find a solution - they will pick the brains of others.

Because these two boots involved all three of the Air Signs and eliminated Libra from the Game, I thought it might be a good time to look at an isolated snapshot of the Element’s performances in Survivor.

LIBRA

Another Sign that – like Scorpio – is cast with a decided gender bias, thirty-five Libra natives have made a total of forty appearances in the Game. And twenty-seven of those appearances – 68% - have been by Libra men. Russell Hantz played the Game three times. Rob, Aras and Brandon Hantz have played it twice.

And just as the female Scorpio personality has become synonymous with a stock Survivor character, I think so too has the Libra male:

With the odd-to-unsavory, curiosity-to-villain second lead who adds (as do Scorpio women) color to the Season but has only once won the Game. And I really regret that. Because it is my experience that Libra in the broader world are all of the wonderful things - urbane, charming, diplomatic, etc – that their Profile describes – crowned by an awe-inspiring talent for puppet-mastery.

I have no idea what happens to (or about) them when they show up on my screen on Wednesday nights.

Note: If anyone wishes to contend that Aras received a positive edit (either time), I’m prepared. I will, however, concede Caleb …

Note: When I read the conjecture about whether or not there would be a repeat of the Joel | Chet incident featuring John Rocker in the role of the bully, I couldn’t help but think that, in that case, we would be seeing A Role Reversal | Chet – On Steroids. Literally.

NEXT ON SURVIVOR

Last week, in Episode Three: Actions vs Accusations, I said:

And, although there was no poll, we were treated to a declaration of independence by the Hunahpu women.

2. Reed heads a group of Broadway regulars (RCK Team Yellow Bucket) who are extremely successful at raising funds to assist Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. So, it will be interesting to see if that obvious connection to John Rocker’s comments in his infamous Sports Illustrated interview is made. Or ignored.

There has been nothing from Reed regarding John Rocker’s Sports Illustrated interview. And, given that the editors didn’t hesitate to air other unflattering opinions of the pitcher's character, that such an obvious opportunity to tout both Reed and his cause was passed, I think, can’t be a good sign for the former Spiderman.

3. And if the headstrong and quick-tempered Aries – the Sign whose natives will most readily haul off and punch a nose – proposed throwing an Immunity Challenge to permit his execution of revenge at the expense of the hapless and loyal (to someone – or – someones) Julie, it will be interesting to see if that airs. Or is ignored.

In fact, I think that if Jeremy is, at any point in the Game, portrayed as the architect of Julie’s boot, it will be a clear indication that he is not the Season’s Sole Survivor.

The IC was thrown. And in exit interviews, it is Drew’s contention that both Jeremy and Jon were aware of the plan. But, if Jeremy originally intended to target Julie (as Jon, but with less toxic reason, certainly did), Jeremy’s intent was lost in the fog of the redirection of his ire toward Keith. So, it is really impossible to know if the editors were – or were not – being protective of the Fireman’s edit.

I do continue to think, though, that if anyone who is instrumental in Julie’s eventual exit from the Game is portrayed as targeting her because of her relationship with John it will not be a positive thing for that player.

And to make a long story much shorter, I also constructed a scenario that supposed a three-way struggle – Drew v Jeremy v Keith – for Hunahpu hearts and minds. And Keith won.

To make matters worse, I couldn’t decide whether or Jeremy or Drew – lost.

This week, the prevailing opinion seems to be that Coyopa loses the IC once again and that the most likely boot target is Dale. Or his daughter.

I think Dale.

Now, let’s get to the new Storied Tribal Chart. Followed by an updated Guide …

At Coyopa:

I am really looking forward to tonight’s show. Because I have absolutely no idea how the dynamics in this Tribe are going to unfold. But …

I do know that Dale and Baylor are pragmatists.

That Keith and Jaclyn are Leo (Leader-Born, Paternalistic Heads of Household). Settled, expansive, inclusive, given to grand schemes, a bit entitled – and – a lot stubborn.

That Missy and Kelley are intelligent, talented strategists, intuitively skilled communicators – and – nervous.

And that Jon is dynamic. Inspirational. Impetuous. And brusque.

I do think that the TC outcome will hinge on Jon and Jaclyn’s ability to persuade either Baylor or Kelley to cast a vote for Dale.

Note: Of course, there is the very real possibility that Jon or Jaclyn leaves the Game at the hands of two parent | child partnerships and a superfluous Keith just scrambling to keep himself and Wes on the right side of the Merge.

Too, I wonder if we’re past the Young v Old Coyopa question?

At Hunahpu:

I would like to think that it is this simple:

Hypercritical and territorial by nature, Virgo (Reed), can be a very unpleasant personality in the Survivor environment. For confirmation, just click the link and scan the list …

And, given that fact and ...

Their membership in the Season’s Earth and Water Majority and ...

Drew’s description of Reed as overly-dramatic and ...

The absence of any recognition of the pair’s activism by the edit and ...

The faint praise of the partnership by JP ...

They know what they're doing in the game and I think people are going to enjoy them and — at least out of the gate — root for them ...

I think that his reunion with Reed ruined Josh’s game. It is difficult to continue to be the familial figure to whom everyone comes if there is a not-so-welcoming gatekeeper at the door.

So, if by any small chance, the reconfigured Hunahpu should find themselves at a Tribal Council, I really do think that all of its stranded – and isn’t it amazingly fortunate that they are all on the same Tribe? – and Wes, are safe.

One last note: I can’t imagine why JP totally ignored Wes in his critique of the Gemini's partnership with his father unless Wes is the player who quits this Game.

G (Earlier) |'Leo tend to be hard taskmasters and like to dominate ... situations ... the two could find themselves one-upping each other in the attention-seeking stakes.

JP | “Keith is one of my favorite new players," Probst says of this father/son team of firefighters from Louisiana. "He didn't know the game at all ... so watching him learn how to play Survivor is fantastic, because he has a way of speaking that you just don't often see on television.”

JP (Speaking of Dale and Kelley): This father/daughter relationship has definitely had its share of ups and downs in the past, Probst notes. But Kelley's main worry now is her dad's social skills — or lack thereof. "Dale lives on a farm and doesn't really talk to anybody, and that was his daughter's biggest concern," Probst says. "'My dad is a social outcast, and he's used to doing things his own way. I don't know how he's going to do in the game, and I don't want him to drag me down.' ... You have a father/daughter and the father loves the daughter, but the daughter looks at the dad as a liability."

JP (Speaking of Missy and Baylor): Missy's 20-year-old daughter Baylor has "done a lot of self-parenting," Probst says. "There's a real clear connection between the two, but it doesn't necessarily appear that it's mother/daughter." But they're definitely a duo to watch. "I think the hardest in Blood vs. Water is for the parent that's playing with a child," Probst says. "And when you're a mom I think it's the hardest of all. I think being a mom with your daughter would be the most difficult position to be in because you birthed her. There is no tighter connection in the world. ... If the only way you can move forward is by getting rid of your child, can you do it? Or do you just fall down on the sword and say, I just can't do it?"

G (Earlier) | 'So, Virgo must be prudent, and Cancer must strive to be forgiving when things go a little awry.'

So I hope that we'll see some of Josh and Reed ... together.

JP | A gay Christian couple from New York (Rocker will love them!), both Josh and Reed are Survivor superfans. "They're very active in their church, but they live a lifestyle that some people in their church don't support," Probst says. "I was really impressed and proud that they wanted to come on our show, endure this adventure, and be honest about who they are in the hopes that it'll help wake people up. ... They know what they're doing in the game and I think people are going to enjoy them and — at least out of the gate — root for them."

G (Earlier) | ' They are also both immensely proud and neither wants to take the back seat in this relationship.

JP | The season's eye candy couple, Jon is a Michigan State football player and Jaclyn was named Miss Michigan in 2013. But their time on Survivor won't exactly be a fairytale, Probst cautions. "They're young and loving," Probst describes. "But what's interesting is watching their relationship play out. They're a couple and they love each other, but this game is hard. And, give people enough time together on Survivor, they will argue, no matter how much you love each other. There's an honesty to watching their relationship that I don't recall us ever doing before."

17. "Episode Five: Blood is Blood"
LAST EDITED ON 10-30-14 AT 11:08 AM (EST)

Let’s begin with
what didn’t happen …

Dale didn’t leave the Game. His daughter did. And not because Jon and Jaclyn had to work hard to convince anyone to do anything (I had predicted that the young lovers would have to persuade either Baylor – who disliked him – or Kelley – who distrusted his social skills – to vote out the older man). And I really thought that it would be an uphill battle for the two.

And that’s because I thought – and still think – that for Keith, Missy, Baylor, Kelley and/or Dale (literally, the Game’s three remaining familial partnerships) to leave Jon and Jaclyn together (or separately) in the Game would be a huge mistake.

The two are a very fit, attractive, dynamic and likeable couple. Separately, the two are very fit, attractive, dynamic and likeable singles. And I can’t imagine how any one of the other five could envision any advantage in Jaclyn’s and Jon’s continued presence at campfires and Tribal Councils.

The mind boggles with the possibilities for jealousy, envy, faux-sibling rivalries and all of the other stuff from which SEG dreams are made.

Note: Outback is another of the Seasons that I haven’t watched. And Jon and Colby are both Aries: given to a rough gallantry but equally capable of rash insensitivity. Tina is a Capricorn. But Missy is a Gemini.

And the chances are that by the time that a Final Tribal Council featuring the two convened, Missy would have so alienated every member of the Jury – including Baylor – that Jon would win the Game in a landslide. Examples: Monica Culpepper, Chelsea Meissner, Danielle DiLorenzo and Katie Gallagher. And my favorite nurturing Gemini: Margaret Bobonich (F13 – Palau).

Note: At F14, the last of the original Blood v Water’s romantic couples was put asunder.

And so, with that pleasantry, I’ll move along to the Tribes (reconstituted) …

what did happen ...

I will be adding content to this and to the other sections of this post throughout the evening.

But, before the show begins, I suppose that I should say that I, like virtually everyone else on the Board, think that Dale will be voted out this evening. And I’ll just add that when Baylor and Missy lose this Game - as Kelley and Dale already have - I think it will be in large part because of Baylor’s and Dale's stubborn Aquarian inability to forgive.

I wanted to say, too, that I am becoming more and more convinced that, if there is indeed someone who quits this Game, that someone will be Wes. And , although it almost certainly will not happen until after the Merge, I think it is very possible that the ‘most awful thing in Survivor history’ that Keith does is cause his son to leave the Game.

2. "The Earth Sun Sign Profiles"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-14 AT 06:30 PM (EST)

KEYWORDS

Practical and Useful
Structured and Productive
Grounded and Sensual
Tactile and Dependable

The ‘Practical’ Earth Signs are grounded and dependable. All of the earthy metaphors are appropriate here: ‘Salt of the earth’, ‘Feet firmly planted on the ground’, ‘Solid as a rock’, etc. Often referred to as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac, creativity is a tangible proposition to these natives and they feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions. Blending in with their natural habitat – grounded – Earth Signs engage life through the five senses and as a result operate at a slower, more thorough, pace than do the natives of other Elements. Often intimately attuned to the dance of nature – most treasure their time spent outdoors – they are masters at assessing, assembling and organizing … things.

The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. Their gift to others is bringing form to ideas: often making them an excellent balancing partner for an idle dreamer with potential. They tend their own garden and inspire others to make the most of theirs. These are the people you can count on to ‘be there’ when you need them. Tending toward caution and conservatism in desire and approach, their logical minds and measured responses display an innate recuperative capacity: much preferring a sure thing, these folks do not take big risks. That said, however, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal, congenial company and fine wine better than anyone else, they are also sensualists.

On the flip side:

Earth Signs can become so caught up in their objectives that they overlook the feelings and opinions of others. And their single-minded focus on the tasks at hand make them vulnerable to the "all work and no play" eddy of life. It is a big picture, after all, but these natives may be more concerned with the finish line than with the journey they are taking. So, while Earth’s orientation toward the real and their need for tangible results in return for their labors can make them very productive, too much of those good things can be stifling to inspiration, faith and a sense of greater purpose. And the ever-present risk inherent in their acquisitive nature is that they may become greedy and far too materialistic.

THE CAPRICORN PROFILE
Positive Traits

Practical and Prudent
Ambitious and Disciplined
Self-Reliant and Persevering
Resourceful and Creative
Negative Traits
Pessimistic and Melancholy
Materialistic and Stern
Conventional and Rigid
Demanding and Cold

Capricorn is one of the most stable and serious of the Zodiac types and these rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong-willed and calm. Born with a sense of purpose and an intense drive for achievement and excellence that never lets up, they are the major finishers of most projects begun by the 'pioneering' Signs. Capricorn exude a sense of being in charge. And they usually are. But, even in their pursuit of status and power, they rarely compromise their integrity to get there. These are the masters of the physical realm and are widely admired for what they’re able to accomplish.

However, while Capricorn have a great respect for authority, they may not be willing to listen to the opinions and suggestions of others. And as the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self- disciplined as they themselves are and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are often humorless. And a fortress of defenses can keep the curious and insincere at bay in their lives. So that while to the world at large Capricorn often covey an image that is both intriguing and intimidating, those that pass the test of loyalty are allowed to see a more vulnerable side: at heart, these natives are interested in enduring ties and because they have a tendency to pessimism and melancholy that many of them are unable to keep to themselves – especially if they fail personally – Capricorn often look to family and longtime friends for emotional support.

And mood swings are not the only reason Capricorn deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals that they seem to be. But they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy: their penchant for melancholy creates a unique filter for Capricorn humor that is known to veer toward the darkly absurd. Reference: Natalie of Micronesia and Corinne of Gabon

Additionally, Capricorn are very status-minded. Even if their immediate finances don't permit an extravagant lifestyle, the January-born can unconsciously adopt the mores, attitudes and mannerisms of the elite. The trappings of success are important to these natives not only for personal pleasure but also for the impression that they can make on others.

Romantically: Capricorn usually thrive as one half of a power couple. Their ideal partners are individuals who they can respect but who also allow them to take charge most of the time. Once happily settled, they’ll go about the business of building both an empire and a cozy home life.

THE TAURUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Patient and Loyal
Warmhearted and Loving
Persistent and Determined
Rooted and Sensuous

Negative Traits
Jealous and Possessive
Resentful and Inflexible
Self-indulgent and Greedy
Slow and Brooding

This Sign’s characteristics are solidity, practicality, extreme determination and strength of will - no one will ever drive Taurus, but they will willingly and loyally follow a leader they trust. They are stable, balanced, conservative and law-abiding citizens and lovers of peace (possessing all the best qualities of the bourgeoisie). They will do everything in their power to maintain the security of the status quo.

So, on rare occasions a Taurus may be an obstinately and exasperatingly self-righteous, unoriginal, rigid, ultraconservative, argumentative and querulous boor: stuck in a self-centered rut. And, whether their characters are positive or negative, they need someone to stroke their egos with a frequent, "Well Done!" Luckily, Taurus has a knack for attracting praise. It is amazing how people will bend over backwards to please them.

They are faithful and generous friends with a great capacity for affection. But Taurus rarely establish intimacies outside their social rank (to which they are ordinarily excessively loyal). And in the main, they are gentle, even-tempered, good-natured, modest and slow to anger. If they are provoked, however, they can explode into violent, uncontrolled outbursts. Lurking within every serene Taurus is the potential for a seething rage that re-establishes a sense of order by force. Equally unexpected are their occasional sallies into humor and exhibitions of fun.

Those with the Sun in Taurus can be the most down-to-Earth of the Signs, so naturally they revel in earthly pleasures. Taurus has a strong aesthetic taste. And allied to his appreciation of all things beautiful is a love for the good things of life: pleasure, comfort, luxury and good food and wine. Their sensuality is legendary, whether they’re cooking up a sumptuous feast or turning on their tantalizingly slow charm.

More firmly rooted in the physical world than the other Signs, Sun in Taurus can be as immovable as a mountain: it’s hard to get a Taurus to rush into anything and that can be frustrating to everyone else. But once they make a decision, it’s usually a sound one. And that same stubborn deliberateness keeps Taurus fixed on a goal long after others have given up. Moreover, these natives don’t like to be pushed around by what they consider flights of fancy. Changes in their surroundings or routines disturb their equilibrium. And if the change is too abrupt or fundamental to his comfort, the shock may be too much for the Bull. He may actually become physically ill.

Taurus are known as the “builders” of the Zodiac and in their work they are industrious and ambitious: unafraid of getting their hands dirty and at their best in routine positions of trust and responsibility where there is little need of urgency, little risk of change and a pension at the end. Yet they are creative and are also often founders of enterprises where the fruits are of their own labors.

Romantically Speaking: Taurus are motivated by a desire for material and emotional security and when they’ve found a suitable partner they’ll stay put where they are and carefully cultivate a stable, deeply rooted life. Respect them and allow them to take their sweet time doing things, and all will be well. On the down side, their reluctance to discard the familiar can sometimes cause Taurus to linger in a relationship that they’ve outgrown.

THE VIRGO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Caring and Loyal
Meticulous and Discriminating
Practical and Organized
Clever and Analytical

Negative Traits
Fussy and a Worrier
Overcritical and Harsh
Perfectionist and Conservative
Negative and Unsocial

Those with Sun in Virgo are constantly on the move, always trying to fine-tune their lives and relationships. They are filled with nervous energy and a desire to make improvements, so they're serene only when they are fulfilling their meticulously planned steps toward a carefully chosen goal.

Virgo is the only Sun Sign represented by a female and it is sometimes thought of as a delicate young girl and sometimes as an intelligent, but rather pedantic and spinsterish, older woman. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgo’s precision, refinement, fastidiousness, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are usually observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient and practical.

Both sexes have considerable charm and dignity and in their unassuming, cheerful and agreeable fashion, they can be sensible, discreet, well-spoken, wise and witty. But while in many respects Virgo are the epitome of social grace and propriety, their sterling etiquette is more apt to be scripted than spontaneous: the result of careful thought and hours of mental practice.

Intellectually, Virgo is enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable. They combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are their hallmarks. They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. And, because of their ability to see every angle of a multi-faceted problem, they are as unhappy with abstract theories as they are with intractable philosophies: placing no confidence in either.

Moreover, for as much as his intellect aids analysis, it also abets the Virgo’s compulsion to criticize. Nothing escapes these perfectionists’ eyes. And in their scrutiny of incongruities, these natives leave no stone … nor anyone … unexamined: as critical, and unforgiving, of themselves as they are of others. So that they may bring the art of self-concealment to a high pitch (hiding their apprehensions about themselves and their often considerable sympathy with other people under the mantle of an undemonstrative clinician) with the result that they shrink from committing themselves to friendship, make few relationships, and are careful to keep those they do make superficial.

Virgos often feel compelled to serve others and can find respect in fields where attention to detail and a responsible attitude are rewarded. They are natural healers and are gifted at bringing an unhealthy situation back into balance. But they have to watch out for those who would take advantage of their natures and put them in subservient roles. Finding the courage to place the highest value on what they offer can take a lifetime for some Virgos.

So, given their qualities, Virgo are much more effective in subordinate rather than leadership positions. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that leadership requires. They are essentially tacticians and excel at the attainment of limited objectives: needing the stimuli of immediacy and prestige attendant to specialization.

Romantically Speaking: The self-contained nature of the Virgo (Virgin) Sun sometimes makes them all the more alluring: someone who will always be whole and complete unto themselves. And this can make them seem unattainable.

Once in a relationship, the Sun in Virgo finds comfort in the routines of daily life. A Virgo who has established a wholesome daily routine is far easier to live with than one that hasn't. And known as loners – there is a physical sensitivity associated with Virgo that could be called high maintenance – they will need plenty of “me” time to maintain their sense of self.

But, when they’ve found a worthy mate, they revel in the patterns and habits of togetherness and can begin to relax into the beauty of the familiar.

3. "The Water Sun Sign Profiles"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-14 AT 06:02 PM (EST)

KEYWORDS

Intuitive and Emotional
Imaginative and Nurturing
Secretive and Dreamy
Introverted

The ‘Emotional’ Water Signs are intuitive, sensitive and empathetic. How things feel is what matters to these nurturers and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. Attuned to waves of emotion, these natives have a built-in sonar for reading a mood that affords them a special sensitivity in relationships. Because the receptive talents of these individuals are so remarkably high, they seem to know when to show warmth and when to hold back. Compassionate and understanding, Water Sign natives are extraordinarily adept at assimilating the feelings of others, processing them and offering plans or solutions that will usually be considerate of all. So, at their best, they are a healing force that brings people together.

But, because Water natives are often assessing a situation by its undercurrents, they can seem aloof or even shy at first. And going forward in a relationship or situation often means being sure of their emotional ground: a kind of decision-making process that is baffling to more spontaneous or practical types. That's why those with this Sign are so quickly shaped by their relationships to others and often have to work harder than do the natives of other Elements to maintain their personal boundaries. They need time alone to remember where they end and others begin and to let what's been stirred up by the push and pull of life find its way to a quiet calm again. These are people who need people but who also need the restorative balm of solitude.

Water natives often translate their sense of the world artistically. Some find release from their own personal dramas when they're able to express them as universal. As writers, musicians and actors they help others make sense of the human experience. But this also happens in everyday life: Water Signs soften the blunt edges of the mundane by cushioning it with emotional meaning. They covet aesthetic beauty -- and for everyone to be happy as a result of it. However, much like still water can become stagnant, inactive Water Signs are not at their best. They feel most fulfilled when they are helping others, and they usually do so in enchanting ways.

Seeing things more clearly than others, and feeling them more acutely than do the natives of other Signs, they are frequently referred to as ‘psychic’. But these insights are easily clouded by the intensity of their feelings or altered by their vivid imaginations.

Also on the flip side of this fluid Element is the tendency of these individuals to brood. Susceptible to mood swings, at their worst they can become self-indulgent, controlling – able to manipulate and drain the emotions of those closest to them – and hostage to a fantasy world.

THE CANCER PROFILE
Positive Traits

Nurturing and Sensuous
Intuitive and Imaginative
Shrewd and Tenacious
Sensitive and Empathetic

Negative Traits
Changeable and Moody
Self-Absorbed and Clinging
Subjective and Clannish
Neurotic and Needy

Cancer’s emotions are as changeable as the Moon itself and their nature makes them something of an enigma, even to those closest to them. In fact, the Cancer temperament is a veritable kaleidoscope of waxing and waning feelings and during the course of a conversation, you may notice – passing fleetingly across the faces of July-born – scores of distinctively different emotions: no one ever repeated or expressed in exactly the same way. Quite simply, Cancer exude drama and these extraordinarily emotional individuals can sink into a mood and fully inhabit it, so that it seems to permeate the atmosphere around them. No other Sign has so pervasive an emotional aura as to either lift your spirits to ecstatic heights or to fill you with clouds of gloom, depending upon his mood.

Moreover, the Cancer imagination is so vivid that it’s like they’re watching home movies inside their heads. For them, every life experience can be replayed again and again and the same internal landscape revisited. This is the raw material for both creative genius and the tendency to get stuck in emotional eddies. These natives love to dream of far-away places and times past and will talk about historical events as if they were actually there. Most Cancer have a special reverence for the past, and if you ask them to tell you whom of all people they admire most, they'll most often rattle off the names of several prominent historical figures.

The idiom “home is where the heart is” has no greater ring of truth than when describing how the Cancer feels about his abode. Home is where he dreams, lives, plays and loves. And it is the only place he feels secure. But, because they're psychic sponges, they need plenty of space to unravel the little dramas of the day, or they’ll get cranky.

And Cancer has a tender heart. But you might not see it at first behind the cool exterior. However, once you’re allowed inside the circle of trust, you’ll start to know why they’re called the “Mother” of the Zodiac. Cancer is never truly happy unless they have someone or something to care for and their innate understanding of human emotion allows them to see through the pretenses of other Signs and lend encouragement, support or sympathy when needed. Both men and women of this Sign have an instinctive nurturing side that endears them to those they love and it is amazing to discover how many July-born have acquired the appendage – ‘good ol'– to their names. The Crab’s claws hold tight, though, and often they have trouble letting go of relationships and situations.

But there is a private, reclusive side to every Cancer. Because of their extreme emotional sensitivity, they fear ridicule and would rather retreat than defend themselves. And there is always lurking in the background of their personalities a foreboding of disaster. As if upon some hidden cue, the Crab can suddenly retreat into the watery burrows of his inner consciousness and not be seen for days. Try and question him about his absence and he'll probably not know what you're talking about.

However, if Cancer can reconcile the personal conflict of their urge to be outgoing with the reserve that causes them to withdraw into themselves, then at best they can inspire a generation, especially the youthful part of it, by their idealism. They also have a penchant for trade or business and are often successful as a captain of industry. This is because they are excellent organizers with a good sense of value and economy that they may combine with a flair for invention and originality.

Take Note: The stealth approach of Cancer often takes people by surprise, and many have been underestimated. They’ll protect their sensitivity by going after what they want indirectly, which can be seen as passive. But try to take advantage of their gentle nature, and you’ll soon be put in your place. Once crossed, the Cancer holds a grudge to infinity, so it’s hard to win back their trust.

Romantically Speaking: Above all, the Cancer needs a sense of belonging and an intimate home life. Once committed, they’ll prove to be the ultimate family man or woman, and likely never stray too far from the nest.

THE SCORPIO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Determined and Forceful
Intense and Intuitive
Formidable and Passionate
Exciting and Magnetic

Negative Traits
Jealous and Vengeful
Compulsive and Obsessive
Secretive and Cunning
Manipulative and Obstinate

And don’t expect instant friendship here, as it takes time to win the trust of the wary Scorpio.

Scorpio are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. And that sensitivity, together with a propensity for extreme likes and dislikes, make them easily hurt: quick to detect or imagine insult or injury to themselves and easily aroused to ferocious anger. And because they relate to their fellows only as leaders, they can be blunt to those they dislike to the point of cruelty.

The Sun in Scorpio have a powerful drive to succeed and often have extracurricular activities that take it up a notch. They’re great competitors because of their built-in radar for the weaknesses of the opponent. They’ll remain calm until the exact moment when a targeted attack will do the most damage. That’s why in relationships of any kind they are a formidable enemy if betrayed.

Fortunate that their strong reasoning powers are tempered with imagination and intuition and that these gifts are usually accompanied by critical perception and analytical capacity, Scorpio often find fulfillment in the ice-cold self-control and detachment of the surgeon or soldier and the concentration of the research scientist. And any profession in which investigation and analysis are relevant may attract these charismatic "twice-born" characters. They may also become masters of the written and spoken word. This Sun Sign includes among its natives more geniuses than does any other.

At the other extreme is the procrastinator: the man or woman who is capable of so much that they do nothing and become indolent and self-indulgent: requiring extravagant praise and flattery from those whom they make their cronies.

Romantically Speaking: Those in a relationship with a Scorpio need to be strong-willed in order to keep from being controlled by their undertow. And never try to hide anything from them because they’ll quickly “read” it on your face. Moreover, Scorpio have earned a reputation for being highly sexual and need an amorous outlet for all that emotional intensity. However, to those few allowed into their private worlds they are fiercely loyal and their enveloping sensuality usually makes all the drama worth it.

THE PISCES PROFILE

Positive Traits
Romantic and Sensitive
Compassionate and Idealistic
Imaginative and Naïve
Intuitive and Creative

Negative Traits
Escapist and Self-Indulgent
Secretive and Vague
Weak-willed and Gullible
Impressionable and Overwhelmed

Pisceans are deservedly popular with all kinds of people in part because their easygoing, affectionate, malleable and submissive natures offer no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. But they will not be able to maintain for very long friendships or associations with those who are too materialistic.

As the last of the twelve Zodiac Signs, Pisces is said to contain aspects of them all. This makes the Pisces Sun so changeable as to appear not to have one singular identity. It's as if they merely touch down in this human reality and remain only long enough to try on a few personas. Consequently, those with the Sun in Pisces can seem to be "somewhere else" half the time. And because their natures are often too otherworldly for practical purposes – they tend to exist emotionally rather than rationally and instinctively rather than intellectually – the nine-to-five life is not easy for them.

So it is important for these individuals to find a sense of purpose in order to avoid just drifting: their sensitivity makes them more vulnerable to escapism through addictions or personal dramas than are other Signs. The challenge to Pisces natives, then, is to somehow integrate their affinity with the more subtle planes into constructive working relationships. Fortunately, Pisceans are usually versatile and intuitive; quickly master new skills; observe and listen well; and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. And all these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art. This is the sign of the mystic poet, and a creative pursuit gives Pisces the motivation to be disciplined. And bringing structure to the vast imagination and shades of emotion flowing within the Pisces nature is a great achievement.

Similarly, in medicine and social work, Pisceans find an outlet for their empathy and mercy while their professional statures curb the likelihood of their being taken advantage of. And, if they're typical March-born, they are not elitists: saint, sinner, murderer, thief, liar, rich or poor - deserving or undeserving - the Piscean instinctively recognizes the worth of the individual and can overlook the apparent causes of their circumstances.

But the fact that the Pisces Sun leads with a compassionate heart can be both a blessing and a curse. Many are remarkably wise and self-sacrificing when it comes to helping the vulnerable or those down on their luck. But this noble trait can take them down a path of being used and abused before they learn to set strong boundaries and they are better working either by themselves or in subordinate positions. Most would be afraid to manage more than a small department, worrying always that they would fail in a crisis.

Romantically speaking: Pisces fare well with a guiding-hand type who understands the fluidity of their nature. And life with a Pisces means having a bridge to unseen worlds of the heart and imagination. Awesome!

4. "The Fire Sun Sign Profiles"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-14 AT 06:04 PM (EST)

KEYWORDS
Spontaneous and Energetic
Gregarious and Passionate
Self-centered and Dramatic
Instinctual and Visionary

The ‘Physical’ Fire Signs have a simmering at-the-ready stance and are prone to sudden illuminating flashes of insight and bursts of enthusiasm. There is about them a warm radiance, a trust in life's journey and a willingness to take risks. Infused with an emotional energy that can spread like wildfire to everyone around them, they sense a golden thread of destiny and potential running through their own lives and are often able to lead others to their own. But, it is important for them to have cheerleaders to fan the flames of their interests.

A Fire Sign is also an indicator of creativity. This Element manifests itself in unique ways, and those in its glow are usually wonderfully courageous, lively spirits: self-sufficient, spontaneous and possessing a tremendous zest for life. Strong, self-assured and fun, they're great catalysts for play and have a knack for unearthing the spontaneous side of those around them.

Fire Signs act on instinct or "sixth sense," and that can make them look reckless to more cautious types. However, they're actually following a powerful intuition that keeps them at the leading edge of fresh experiences. But, although going on faith often gets them far, they have a tendency to skip crucial steps and to be unaware of the emotional impact of their actions on others. And because they are so very passionate about life and like to live large, Fire Signs often feel frustrated by mundane chores and duties. Too, Fire natives can be overly strident in getting their way. Call it bossy, even. These folks can come across rather forcefully. Selfishness and an overdeveloped ego can also be seen as part of a fiery individual's shadowy side.

THE ARIES PROFILE

Positive Traits
Adventurous and Confident
Pioneering and Courageous
Enthusiastic and Straight-Forward
Dynamic and Quick-witted

Negative Traits
Selfish and Dominating
Impulsive and Insensitive
Foolhardy and Quick-Tempered
Willful and Ruthless

Adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy, Aries is a trailblazer: open to new ideas and a lover of freedom. These individuals welcome opposition and will not be diverted from their purposes except by their own impatience or boredom. Gifted with a direct, fiery nature that puts them one step ahead of the crowd, the childlike enthusiasm of these entrepreneurs and revolutionaries is infectious, and their ability to rouse others' interest in a project or cause is unparalleled. They’ll often take charge of a situation and their sense of certainty usually makes others fall in line. But the Mars-ruled are initiators -- not perpetuators.

Often larger-than-life, they can light up a room with their charisma: they’re among the ones with the stamina to party ‘til dawn. But if a gathering, project or relationship begins to be dull they’ll quickly move on. The Sun in Aries craves excitement and their restless spirits are in constant pursuit of the next ‘big thing’.

Because their approach to life is somewhat simplistic, what Aries can accomplish without a lot of distracting nuances and complexities to slow him down is staggering. Don't, however, put them in a position where they'll have to deal with complicated emotions or with a problem requiring delicate handling or subtlety. They're simply not equipped for it.

And, much concerned with personal advancement and physical satisfaction (self-reliant but also self-centered), Aries do not work well under authority unless they, too, have subordinates. In fact, they may be too self-sufficient and proud to acknowledge they have a boss and often take matters into their own hands (disregarding authority absolutely). Ask an Aries how many times he's been fired, and he'll probably tell you more than once. And that is probably because, most of all, Aries – propelled by an inner drive that is a force to be reckoned with – wants to achieve great things and at times their rush to accomplish them can cause them to take unnecessary risks or to forge ahead without planning out crucial details. Some say the Sun in Aries learns the hard way: by leaping before looking. But, being an active Sign, the Aries does learn best through experience.

In personal relationships Aries are frank, direct and candid: gregarious and generous friends. However, their immense energy can also make them aggressive and restless, argumentative, headstrong, quick-tempered and easily offended: of all the Zodiac’s natives, an Aries will most readily haul off and punch a nose.

And while an Aries is not the least bit calculating (in most instances, he'll simply tell it like it is before he's had a chance to think about the consequences), he does crave admiration and praise. So that while he won’t usually lie (in contradiction of his straightforward nature), he'll often exaggerate the truth in his own favor or simply in order to stamp it with his individuality.

Intellectually, Aries are quick-witted, usually objective, and inspirationally optimistic: irreplaceable champions of lost causes and last-ditch stands. But they can also become extremists: foolhardy and dogmatic zealots whose enormous talents and vibrant personalities become a hindrance (if not a threat) to the welfare of the society in which they move.

Romantically Speaking: Aries is the Sign of the Warrior and sometimes they go too far and wound those they love with hurtful words spoken in the heat of an argument. They quickly forgive and forget, but they often have to deal with the fallout of their brusque demeanor. Moreover, these natives have minds that filter out the non-essentials and it is their clear sight that helps them make such rapid progress in life: so, once fixed on a goal, they’ll move forward with a single-minded determination that threatens to leave those close to them in the dust. But if you’re a match for such an amped-up spirit, you’ll never forget being pulled along by the power of this dynamic personality.

THE LEO PROFILE

Positive Traits
Generous and Affectionate
Exuberant and Colorful
Broadminded and Theatrical
Proud and Vivacious

Negative Traits
Pompous and Patronizing
Overbearing and Provocative
Dogmatic and Intolerant
Selfish and Egotistical

At first, it’s hard not to like those with the Sun in Leo with their open hearted, friendly ways. They often enter a room as a radiant presence that causes everyone to take notice, and are skilled at “working” a crowd for best effect. As a friend, they have a gift for mining your buried dream, polishing it to a shine again, and making anything seem possible. And there is a public confidence with the Leo Sun that affords them free reign to fully express their creative and social selves. Whether they end up in civil service or on a Broadway stage, chances are they’ll have an audience. When standing proudly before adoring fans (or co-workers), they project a warmth that has a palpable power to win hearts and minds.

It is a Leo’s birthright to lead, and they'll naturally assume that role without being asked. However, if that authority is questioned, they may abandon a project entirely. Outgoing, spontaneously warm-hearted and plain-spoken (but poor judges of character), Leo are more disillusioned than the average if let down by those they trust.

And, since Leo simply can't function if they're not in a position to lead, they'll brood until that status has been reinstated. However, even after they discover that they've been duped or abandoned, most Leos are too big about it – or too proud – to retaliate. Because they are usually incapable of actions that are in any way mean, base or underhanded, they have difficulty in recognizing those traits in others. In activities where these lower qualities are essential for success, the majority of Leo tend not to succeed.

And because they see a project in its grandest perspective, Leo natives have a disdain for details: their chief attribute in any group situation is the unique capacity for the overall manipulation of resources to produce a desired result. So it is not surprising that more wealth is found under Leo than under any other Sun Sign.

On the whole they are powers for good, for they are strongly idealistic, humane, and beneficent. They have a powerful intelligence and are of a broad philosophical, sometimes religious, turn of mind. Those who are devout may be very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines that liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date.

However, a Leo’s faults can be as large in scale as are his virtues and an excessively negative Leo can be a very unpleasant human being. These Leos will not hesitate to use cunning, lies and trickery to discredit their adversaries. Narcissism, greed for flattery, bombast, pomposity and snobbish superiority can also be characteristic of Leo.

Romantically Speaking; The Sun in Leo has a hard time with the mundane, and will be drawn to colorful careers and dramatic relationships. While some people shrink at the idea of dating around, the Leo considers romance a grand game. And it’s not unusual for these natives to play more than one game at a time.

Too, after getting to know a Leo, you’ll discover that they’re very loyal: to themselves. You can come up against severe resistance if you try to bend the will of a Leo for the sake of a relationship. Their reputation for being ‘diva-difficult’ is well-earned. But, because so many of them grab the gusto and achieve their lofty goals, in the end their stubborn self-regard usually elicits widespread respect.

THE SAGITTARIUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Optimistic and Freedom-loving
Curious and Sporting
Good-humored and Straightforward
Expansive and Philosophical

Negative Traits
Blindly-optimistic and Careless
Irresponsible and Superficial
Flippant and Promiscuous
Tactless and Restless

Sagittarius have a positive outlook on life and are full of enterprise, energy, versatility and adventure: eager to extend experience beyond the physically familiar. They delight in travel and exploration: Sagittarius are genuinely intrigued by foreign cultures and even when their finances preclude traipsing the globe Sagittarius travel in their minds. And their bright, cheerful demeanors can be disarming. It’s an uncomplicated style that invites you to drop your defenses, too, and just “be.” This makes for a fun friend who knows all the best ethnic restaurants and will be more than happy to stay out ‘til the wee hours.

Ambitious and optimistic (even when their hopes are dashed), their strongly idealistic natures are able to withstand disappointments without being affected. They are usually honorable, honest, trustworthy, truthful, generous and sincere (with a passion for justice). They are characteristically on the side of the underdog and are prepared to be rebellious.

Non-conformists, Sagittarius hate being bound to rigid social confines or pigeonholed into strict routines that don't give them plenty of breathing room. Even more than physical restrictions, they'll loathe mental confinement. Sagittarius have both profound and broad minds: equipped with foresight, good judgment and keen intuition. As a result, they are often fascinating conversationalists and correspondents. Think Mark Twain. Think Sagittarius.

Known, too, for their spontaneous philosophical ramblings, these natives don’t seem to get bogged down in emotional complexities. So those who love them may wish for more depth: more feeling. And there are times when they are shockingly blunt. It’s unnerving to be the target of a direct hit.. But that same tactless personality can be a beacon of light in confusing times. Leave it to a Sagittarius to step into a messy tangle and sum up the situation with blinding clarity. They’ll be willing to speak the truth when all others hide in confusion. This makes them invaluable friends who can guide you back to a clear path when you need honesty rather than enabling.

And in a curious twist of fate, Sagittarius, who are often accused of clumsiness, are also credited with extraordinary grace and coordination when engaged in purposeful physical activity: most particularly sports and dance. In everyday activities, however, the Sagittarian can be surprisingly less dignified. Though the December-born athlete may break the record for high jump, he'll stumble over his shoelaces walking onto the field.

Sagittarius are much more adept at adapting than inventing and are at their best when working with colleagues whose talents compliment, rather than compete with, their own. But Sagittarius can sometimes be exacting, domineering and inconsiderate in the work place: scorning the inadequacies of others while expecting fulsome recognition of their own skills and effort. Moreover, they can be (and frequently are) impulsively angry. And, when angry, both male and female Sagittarians can be vicious: employing with precision those words or actions that will most severely wound their adversary. On the other hand, they are magnanimous in forgiving offenses and quick to make amends for their own intemperance.

Romantically Speaking: The same notable physicality that attracts Sagittarius to vigorous athletics and bold travel-adventures often extends to their intimate relationships and their flexible, lusty, anything-goes attitude can cause them to take a walk on the wild side. So, the ideal partner for them is above all a friend and a partner in life’s great adventure who understands the needs of a true free spirit. However, more apt then the average to make an uncongenial alliance, their innate restlessness (which, if excessive, often jeopardizes more than their own stability) will often compel them to use even the most satisfying ménage as a base from which to … depart.

5. "The Air Sun Sign Profiles"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-14 AT 06:05 PM (EST)

KEYWORDS
Intellectual and Innovative
Conceptual and Analytical
Curious and Social
Cerebral and Detached

The gift of Air is flexibility and its natives’ ability to experience life through many prisms. Air Signs use their minds to make sense of their lives and for them there is more space between the life lived and the observing mind than is so with other Signs. So, to others, these individuals can appear detached, aloof, remote and cool: they’ll often attempt to talk their way through feelings – or to analyze a situation – rather than deal with the full emotional weight of the moment. Critical thinkers who handle abstract reasoning well, the ‘Intellectual’ Air Signs love to probe and synthesize. Have a dilemma? Hand it over to an Air Sign and watch them go to work.

And the distance between these masters of cultural navigation and their own emotions can be refreshing. These are extremely social creatures – their curiosity keeps them ever- mingling – and their currency is their ability to link diverse social groups or individuals with their often extraordinary collections of ideas, obscure facts, gossip and knowledge. Drawn to words, many Air natives become professional storytellers, interpreters and journalists who provide the rest of us with astute commentary on the cultural trends, social attitudes and political consciousness of our times. Others of them – especially Aquarius – have a more conceptual way of thinking. Almost without exception, however, all of these alert, curious and perceptive individuals are very communicative and the world as seen by an Air Sign will be an interesting one – as their analysis and subsequent explanation (hopefully in terms we can understand) will indicate. Talking with an inspired Air Sign can be like skipping through a kind of virtual reality full of detail, specificity and local color.

Moreover, the Element usually manifests itself in a most humane way: objective, cooperative, unprejudiced (and often highly idealistic), most actually do ‘want to help make a better world’.

And, because Air Signs are especially vulnerable to the excesses of our mind-body split, balance is of paramount importance to them. So that while Air natives are usually calm and collected, they can – and frequently do – turn bitterly cold if their equilibrium is upset.

A word to the wise: there's little upside to baiting an Air Sign!

THE LIBRA PROFILE

Positive Traits
Diplomatic and Urbane
Romantic and Charming
Easy-going and Sociable
Idealistic and Fair-minded

Negative Traits
Indecisive and Changeable
Gullible and Easily-influenced
Flirtatious and Self-indulgent
Passive and Co-dependent

Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra are the very personification of refinement and affection, endearing you with their genteel manner and melting your heart with their ingratiating smiles. Those with the Sun in Libra have an easy grace and charm that is truly enviable. Many have soothing voices that are easy on the ears. And they love to talk. They’re at their very best when their gift for communication is put to a high-minded purpose, and, noted for their ability to harmonize conflicted situations – the Libra personality attracts the revelations, confidences, gossip and trust of others like a magnet – they thrive in calm, aesthetically pleasing environments. But don't let all that sugar and spice fool you. Libra are easily upset by the chaos of life and then the October-born can be as quarrelsome, as irritable and as intractable as any Sign in the Zodiac.

These are very social human beings. It’s difficult – even unnatural – for Libra to “go it alone”. More than any other Sign, they function best in “people” environments. At a party, you’ll find that Libra is the one playing host or hostess – no matter whose house it is – and looking fabulously at ease: they have a very artful way of serving cocktails and scintillating ideas with equal aplomb. Libra loathe cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity. And they detest overt conflict. So they do their best to cooperate and compromise with everyone around them. Their ideal for their own circle (and for society as a whole) is unity. And their cast of mind is artistic rather than intellectual: many Libra are drawn to creative fields, since their eye for beauty is often quite refined.

Libra is symbolized by the Scales of Balance, and just as a set of scales will teeter back and forth before achieving a new balance, Libra will vacillate to and fro between extremes: mental, emotional or physical. When the Libra does make a decision, however, you can probably bank on its integrity. The polar opposite of subjective Aries, the Libra is quite capable of objective judgment: irrespective of his own tastes, mores, philosophies or preferences. And even though Libra take a lot of heat for being indecisive, they make up for it with an idealism that has the power to change their world. Perhaps this is why there are more judges born under Libra than under any other Sun Sign and why the Scales have come to represent our system of justice.

However, once they have reached a conclusion Libra will not tolerate a divergent opinion: among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. Moreover, the negative Libra character may show frivolity, flirtatiousness and shallowness. It can be changeable and indecisive, impatient of routine, colorlessly conventional and timid, easygoing to the point of inertia and inappropriately docile: yet Libra can shock everyone around them with sudden, and inexplicable, storms of rage.

The Libra flair for tact and diplomacy is unparalleled in the Zodiac. And in business and diplomatic relations, the Libra is able (far more often than not) to accomplish what he desires without destroying relationships that could be valuable to him in the future. Great venture partners, they relish bouncing ideas off other people and eagerly contribute their talents to committed teams. But the ease with which they pursue any argument can sometimes make you wonder where the Libra really stands. Nothing irritates these natives' harmonizing intellect more than one-dimensional thinking. So, if they think your line of reasoning is too pat or simplistic, they'll purposely take the opposing view.

And while 'Lazy Libra' is a common phrase - the same languid style that puts everyone in a relaxed mood can lead to self-indulgence and a passive attitude toward life – those who would casually ascribe laziness to the October-born have never seen them in their more productive mode. Once they have committed themselves to a goal, Libra can become powerhouses: using their well-ordered intellects to accomplish in leaps and bounds tasks that might encumber other Signs. The trouble is that in planning any endeavor they can get so lost in the endless labyrinth of strategies, factors and options which have to be weighed and evaluated by their logical minds that Libra’s procrastination can give you the best portrayal of laziness you've ever seen.

Romantically Speaking: The Sun in Libra has a natural gift for being the ideal in the eyes of their beloved. And that is because they’re so instinctively aware of what it is the other wants and needs them to be. So, while some Libras end up losing their sense of self in the process, a more romantic, devoted partner is hard to find.

THE AQUARIUS PROFILE

Positive Traits
Friendly and Humanitarian
Progressive and Pioneering
Original and Inventive
Eccentric, Independent and Intellectual

Negative Traits
Intractable and Dogmatic
Perverse and Unpredictable
Unemotional and Detached
Isolated

The Sun in Aquarius has been called the “rebel” of the Zodiac because of their total commitment to their unique vision. They’re uncompromisingly anchored in their own lives and grant that same autonomy to others. And, because Aquarius instinctively appreciate diversity and have a sustaining confidence in their own convictions, they are extremely tolerant of the behaviors and opinions of others. So, with an innate sense that everyone should “do their own thing”, Aquarius often seem to be detached – and friendly – at the same time.

The last quality, however, is tempered with a sensible practicality.

So, while the Aquarian nature is known as eccentric, that is only because it follows that personal golden thread of inspiration to the limits. Another name for this could be genius, since it pushes out into the road less traveled and then goes yet further. And while this sometimes leads to great achievement, there’s always a chance that it can also lead to isolation. However, quick, active and persevering (usually interacting with others with reason, moderation and good humor), the native’s distain for the status quo – unlike the social activism of Sagittarius or the overt revolt of Aries – is most usually held in check by a quiet optimism: that things, given time and patient crusade, will improve. Rather, his more subtle rebellion most usually manifests itself in unconventional dress or grooming, erratic behaviors and wry (devastating) sarcasm.

Too, despite the magnetic, forthcoming and open personality of the extrovert Aquarius and the humanistic traits of both types, neither makes friends readily. They do not give themselves easily - perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that - and are sometimes accounted condescending and cold. Even in the intimate companionship that they instinctively seek, they are fiercely independent. They dislike interference by others, however helpfully intended, and will accept it only on their own terms. But once they decide that another is worthy of their friendship, Aquarius are tenacious and extraordinarily loyal compatriots. However, if they are deceived their anger is terrible. And if disillusioned (usually because their own idealism causes them to demand more of others than is reasonable) Aquarius do not forgive.

They’re usually at the forefront of a cause: often before it becomes safe or fashionable.

Aquarius have a feeling of unity with nature and a desire for knowledge and truth that makes them admirable scientists: most especially astronomers and natural historians. These are the ones with a faraway look, most likely thinking brilliant and futuristic thoughts. Their minds seem to roam the outer edges of what is possible, and many of them make the impossible a reality as pioneers in science and technology. And their quirky, wholly original take on life gives them an edge should they venture into the Arts. The Aquarius talent for mimicry and parody serves them well as character actors or comedians. Their avant-garde tendencies are often expressed in writing (most usually poetry), public service broadcasting and musical innovation. And their altruism may find its voice in welfare fields or education.

Romantically Speaking: The Aquarius remains a sovereign being who needs an intellectual rapport to sustain a romance. An ideal mate inhabits a parallel universe and from it is able to accept the physical and mental distances that the Aquarius personality imposes. And it is often very surprising to see how much love can grow in the space between two people.

THE GEMINI PROFILE
Positive Traits

Adaptable and Versatile
Eloquent and Witty
Intellectual and Engaging
Charming, Youthful and Lively

Negative Traits
Nervous and Restless
Superficial and Inconsistent
Cunning and Duplicitous
Rumor-Mongering

Gemini, the Sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. To them, life is a game that must always be full of fresh moves and continuous entertainment and free of labor and routine. Charmers and clowns, they often wear a silly grin that seems to say that they get the cosmic joke that all is, after all, well: it’s really okay to sample everything from the smorgasbord of life. And, since they’re always finding something absurd to giggle over, you might hear the laughter of Gemini Suns before you see them. They’re great wits and their interest in people often thrusts them into the role of social ice breaker.

Their good qualities are attractive and come easily to them. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful - provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts. And in social situations, even at their worst they are never dull - there is usually playfulness below the surface and they can be exhilarating conversationalists. However, often referred to as the dilettante of the Zodiac because they’ll try anything once and usually do, the Gemini needs to be able to reinvent himself many times and to follow the threads of inspiration wherever they lead. And that innate quality can make these natives seem restless and inconsistent. So, although Gemini may be hard to pin down and a bit challenging to deal with, if you can accept the shape-shifting nature of their personalities, they make excellent friends.

But be warned that like chameleons, they absorb and reflect every change in their environment and can become pessimistic, sullen, peevish and self-centered prattlers, boasters, liars and cheats if circumstances force them to struggle in any way.

Gemini have a keen and intuitive intelligence. They love cerebral challenges and though they dislike the labor of learning, their mental agility, energy and insatiable curiosity afford them a voracious appetite for knowledge. Many Gemini become veritable walking encyclopedias. And if a Gemini finds a subject worthy of his incredible kaleidoscopic mind, these individuals have the capacity to become masters of an art or science.

So, although their intellect is strongly analytical and sometimes gives them so great an ability to see both sides of a question that they vacillate and find it hard to make decisions, their cleverness and ingenuity may also very well be used to control and unify the duality of their natures into a most efficient unit. If faced with difficulties, they have little determination to worry at a problem until they find a solution - they will pick the brains of others.

Any work that combines quick-wittedness with a change of surroundings suits Gemini. They are often skilled manipulators of language and are usually very successful diplomats, academics, authors, poets, journalists and lawyers (albeit they are more brilliant than profound and more interested in theory than in practice). And any and every sales venue is, of course, sweet home to them.

Romantically Speaking: The Gemini knows that the world is vast and full of endless fascinations to explore and so they need an intellectual rapport with their mate. The ideal companions for them are individuals who think at their same speed of light. They need a certain kind of space to grow, and those who do manage to stay close to Gemini don’t try to hold on too tightly. Because, if the door of a relationship is open for them to come and go at will, they’ll usually, over time, prove their own brand of faithfulness.

6. "Temper! Temper! Temper! Temper!"
LAST EDITED ON 10-17-14 AT 11:09 PM (EST)

The following comparisons of the Elements | Temperaments are edited excerpts of articles authored by Clare Martin
Found at Astrodienist] : Mapping the Psyche - Volume One - Lessons Nine and Ten).

The Fire and Earth Signs

It is helpful to look at the Fire and Earth Signs together because, as opposite Elements, they both challenge and complement each other. And it makes it easier to grasp the meaning of an Element if we compare it to what it is not. Fire is positive and masculine, Earth is negative and feminine. And these two Elements share the same personal, individual orientation to the world. For Fire, this orientation is subjective. An example of this would be a religious experience or personal conviction, which is absolutely real to the individual but which cannot be, and does not need to be proved, explained or justified to anyone else, since it is true for the individual. For the Earth Signs, the truth is objective - but just as personal - arising from Earth's own experience - via the five senses - of the outside world. For example, if Earth doesn't like the smell, taste or colour of something, then that is that. Nobody can argue otherwise.

Fire is also magnetic - it pulls us in. If you have ever stood watching a bonfire, I am sure you will have experienced this fascination. As we watch the flames, they pull us away from the 'real world' and into our imagination. And in our imaginations everything is exaggerated, colourful, larger than life and full of exciting potential. It is from the imagination that Fire Signs draw their contagious warmth and enthusiasm, fired by a unique and personal connection to a grand vision, a quest, a big picture which sets the stage for their own lives.

So, the Fire Signs - if they are to be true to themselves – must live right at the centre of their own individual dramas and mythic dreams. Fire Signs have an innate sense of their own unique specialness, which explains why they have a tremendous faith in themselves and why they will take the kind of risks that other Elements shrink from. 'Objective truths', such as the statistical odds against winning the lottery, for example, are meaningless to Fire Signs and often a cause of incomprehension, frustration and impatience. Even when they crash and burn, Fire Signs normally have the faith to pick themselves up and carry on. For the Element of Fire, relationships are about the excitement of the chase - be it another person or an ideal. Fire is not concerned with commitment and stability. This explains why so many people get burned when they 'play with Fire'.

Another interesting thing about the Elements is that, in a very concrete way, we use up our main Element quickly. This is why, on a very basic level, people with an emphasis on Fire in their charts really need plenty of sunshine, physical exercise, travel and adventure to maintain their basic optimism. And when Fire gets what it needs, its warm spontaneity and instinctive generosity is enormously healing for others, although, since it is simply a by-product of their natural vitality, Fire Signs themselves are often unaware of this fact.

However, each Element evokes its opposite and this explains both the resistance and attraction that exists between Fire and Earth. They are opposites but they need each other.

And, by contrast, the Earth Signs are rooted in here-and-now tangible reality. They are solid, dependable, practical and reliable, concerned with the material world and with the five senses. Think of Earth literally; everything that supports us grows from the earth, all the food we eat comes from the earth. Earth supports life and the Earth Signs have very strong security needs and tend to be very conservative. They are realistic. They are able to manifest, to make things happen, and have a tremendous capacity for perseverance and endurance. The Earth Signs come into their own when realism and practical solutions are called for.

The Earth Signs also tend to be comfortable and in touch with the natural world and, unlike the other elements, tend not to repress or undervalue the body's needs for proper nourishment, rest and exercise. Of all the elements, the Earth Signs are the most sensual and sexual. Earth is in its element here. Many Fire Signs, on the other hand, have an active dislike of their bodies, which are too confining, too restrictive. Our bodies hold us back. And they need to be fed, clothed and rested.

So, in general terms, the limitations of the Earth Signs are the same as the strengths of the Fire Signs. The practical, realistic Earth Signs can have a marked lack of enthusiasm, hope, faith and optimism, which can result in a kind of cynical disappointment with life, a sense that the world has 'let them down'. There can also be a lack of imagination and an inability to think symbolically. Taken to extremes, the 'concrete thinker' can become fundamemtalist/radical: a circumstance - not of faith - but of its lack.

Equally, the limitations of the Fire Signs can be described as the strengths of the Earth Signs. The difficulties, for Fire Signs, are the thousand obstacles of a practical nature which threaten to spoil and obstruct the fantasy. They can have problems coping with ordinary, everyday matters. Not to mention other people who point out, practically but not very helpfully, all the very good reasons why something is not possible. Fiery people can feel panicked and really miserable by a tax return and will do anything to escape. In a curious way, a tax return is an affront to Fire, which doesn't see the need to justify its existence to anyone or to obey the rules which, after all, only apply to ordinary mortals! Fire Signs are not interested in the actual reality of the situation.

But, while the fiery imagination can travel anywhere, without limitation, in order to turn these dreams into reality the practical Element of Earth is needed. We have to earn enough money in order to be able to afford to turn our dreams into reality, navigate transportation timetables, remember to get our visas updated and leave enough time to get to the airport.

Earth is not the only challenge to Fire. The Air and Water Signs can be equally obstructive. Fire's subjective vision and enthusiasm can easily be crushed by Air's rational analysis of the actual facts, and Water’s intuitive resistance to emotional risk can certainly blunt an enthusiasm for experiment. And Fire Signs can easily be overwhelmed by the roadblocks which the world throws at them. It is not unusual to meet Fire Signs who seem to have been 'put out'.

And, unless the natural enthusiasm, optimism and self-belief of the Fire Element can be rekindled, it may become distorted; violent and destructive:

In the case of Aries – demanding, in the case of Leo – jealous, in the case of Sagittarius – arrogant or patronizing.

The Air and Water Signs

The elements of Air and Water create our second pair of psychological opposites. For the Air Signs, the truth is objective, 'out there' in the systems created in the external world. And for the Water Signs, the truth is subjective, 'in here' in the emotional undercurrents and feelings native to us all.

The Air Signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are the most civilized, most social, detached, abstract, rational and, in fact, the most 'human' of all the Signs of the Zodiac because they all concern the mind and the intellect. The qualities of this Element, which is positive and masculine, are valued in our culture and encouraged by our education system, which prizes and rewards the ability to think and communicate logically and rationally.

Air Signs are impersonal - they have the gift of detachment and objectivity and the gift of perspective. As Signs of social interaction, they are articulate, natural negotiators, arbitrators and communicators, able to weigh up opposites and see both sides of the coin.

The shadow for Air Signs is the Element of Water: the world of the emotions that tends to be mysterious and rather uncomfortable territory for Air. In fact, they are often 'experts' when it comes to relationships. They can tell you a great deal about all the different theories of emotion and feelings, but this can often be a very clever defense against actually having to feel anything for themselves.

For example: If a person has enough planets in Water then he or she will be in touch with the emotions and living with them all the time. If he or she doesn’t have planets in Water, Water influences are still there, but are more likely to be operating autonomously, outside the control of the ego. So when a mood comes over that person, it can be quite overwhelming: we are, literally, 'beside ourselves'.

So, the point about the objective, exterior truth of Air is that, although it can tell you all about something, it can't tell you the actual value of anything. It is Water that tells us if something feels right or not, but this subjective emotional intelligence is something which, in our culture, we are often conditioned not to trust.

You see this phenomenon being played out on televised debate shows, with panels of people representing different views. No resolution or solution or progress emerges out of such debates, whose function seems to be mainly to clarify the opposing viewpoints, which is of value in itself but can easily go nowhere.

There used to be a programme on television called The Moral Maze (G – I presume, a British television program), where a group of respected academics and intellectuals would sit around a table each week and discuss important moral issues. One week the panel was asked to debate the subject of whether or not the soul exists.

The general consensus, of course, was that the soul did not exist because its existence had not been sufficiently proven according to the Air Signs' criteria of objective, collective truth. Another angle would be to suppose that the intellect can know nothing about the soul, and it is not uncommon for Air Signs to talk articulately and intelligently about things they know nothing about (G - )

Unlike the Air Signs, the Water Signs are non-verbal and tend to absorb the emotions and feelings behind what is being said rather than the words themselves. Water is extremely sensitive to atmosphere, picking up subtle feelings about places and people which are strongly felt but not so easy to verbalize. Water is receptive, like a sponge, and able to empathize or 'feel with' others.

With no inherent shape or form of its own, Water takes on the form of its container. At best, water is simply supportive and non-judgmental. If you are upset or in pain, Water can offer support, no matter what you have done or why you are feeling that way. For this reason, people often unburden themselves on Water people and cry on their shoulders, partly because, unlike Air, they will not try to solve or rationalize the problem away, which is normally a way of ignoring and undervaluing the feelings.

Imagine, for example, that Air and Water go to a party together. As they walk into the room, Air, who is interested in making social connections, might say: 'Great, there's so-and-so, whom I know, and there's so-and-so. I will introduce them to each other.' Water, on the other hand, might stand at the door and think, 'Hmm, this doesn't feel right. I'm not in the mood for this.'

If this happens, then it doesn't matter who is in the room; Water won't want to be there.

Then, Air will want to know what Water's problem is and will ask for a rational explanation. At this point Water feels overwhelmed because, as a mute, non-verbal Element, it is difficult to put words to the feelings.

Naturally, at this point Air begins to feels frustrated and irritated. Water then feels deeply misunderstood because it needs to have the problem intuited out of them, and might retaliate by saying something like: 'You don't understand me. You're so cold!'

This will probably be interpreted as an irrelevant statement by Air, whereas it was intended by Water as a way to protect their inner feelings.

The Elements of Earth and Fire have their own ways of responding to the detached, objectivity of the Air Signs. The Fire Signs would get impatient and just leave Air to carry on debating with itself, because Fire is subjective and doesn't really care what other people think. And practical Earth would not see the point of sitting around endlessly discussing concepts and theories and find the nearest cocktail … fast.

These kinds of difficulties happen all the time because we don't understand that people process information and experiences in ways which are innately different.

You write so beautifully and make such incredible designs that I should read your posts more often, Georgianna. Thank you for quoting some of my ramblings.

You know that I do not believe in astrology but one thing caught my eye. You wrote:

"So, if you think that Alec, Wes, Reed, Missy and Kelley are this Season’s natural Indian | Follower | Subordinate contingent – and Michel may well have a very different ‘few’ Indians (in addition to Missy) in mind"

I feel you deserve an answer: I'd definitely see Wes, Reed and Missy has followers even if I think that Missy is mostly acting like a follower for now. Alec is trying to impose his ideas (ie. "It's too early to vote out Rocker". "Baylor should work harder") but he doesn't have the experience to take the reins. Other indians would include Julie, Baylor, Jaclyn, Dale and Keith, the latter mostly because of his multiple trips to EI and his age. A younger, more integrated Keith could have been a leader.

Kelley has been described as a mastermind so I'd have to count her in the chiefs. That would also include Jeremy, Natalie, Jon, Josh and the departed Drew and Rocker.

I have no idea about their signs but those are my impressions.

Michel: I should read your posts more often, Georgianna.

Yes, you should! As should everyone! ...

Michel: You know that I do not believe in astrology.

I do know. So I very much appreciate your reply and your kind words. And I hope that you'll post to the thread again and often.

Too, I can't wait to read your summary of last night's Episode. I am really looking forward to it!

But I am a bit confused:

You said that Missy said that there were many chiefs and not enough Indians. … Since we heard that there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians, the stage is set for a follower to take the spoils from the battle between leaders. Who will it be?

And then, of course, you suggested that Missy might be this Season's winner.

And I am really pleased to know that we agree on the status of four of my five Indians.

But putting all of your Indians - Wes, Reed, Missy, Alec, Julie, Baylor, Jaclyn, Dale and Keith - to one side and all of your Chiefs - Kelley, Jeremy, Natalie, Jon, Josh, Drew and John Rocker - to the other, the count is 9 - 7 in favor of the Indians. And even if you add both Valesay and Nadiya to the Chiefs' roster, we have a tie. So, is it just that I'm being too literal about the connection between "too many Chiefs" and your suggestion that a Follower may win the Game?

Which brings me to another question:

I think of the hierarchal role that an individual brings to the Game and/or choses to play within the Game as either a ...

Superior (Leader | Chief)
And I think of Superiors as a society’s Providers: those persons who, motivated principally by their inherent expectation of success/acclaim in return for effort, are most likely to erect and direct its hierarchies.

or a ...

Subordinate (Follower | Indian)
And I think of Subordinates as a society’s Producers: those persons who, motivated principally by their inherent expectation of reward/approval in return for effort, are most likely to populate and maintain those hierarchies

or a ...

Soloist (Independent | Renegade)
And I think of Soloists as a society's Provocateurs: those persons who, motivated principally by their inherent expectation of notoriety/distinction in return for effort, are most likely to be found scrambling over, squirming under, sneaking around … or making shambles of … its hierarchies.

And, from my vantage point, the San Juan del Sur cast was composed of:

1. Four Superiors | Leaders | Chiefs: Josh, Valesay, Keith and Jaclyn

2. Five Subordinates | Followers | Indians : Alec, Wes, Kelley, Missy and Reed

3. Nine Soloists | Independents | Renegades: Nadiya, Natalie, John Rocker, Julie, Drew, Jeremy, Jon, Dale and Baylor.

And it seems to me that a great deal of what JP has referred to as the ‘difference’ and ‘unorthodoxy’ of this Season is attributable to that last, large class.

So, I wonder if, when you think of the roles that people play in the Game - or of those that its editors impose on the Game - there is a comparable third category in your mind? And, if there is, which of San Juan del Sur’s players would you include in it?

For the sake of clarity:

The designations - Superior, Subordinate, Soloist - that I've used in Signs of Survival for ten years are not Astrology. The three divisions (each incorporating four Signs) are my inventions and use the familiar labels to identify the hierarchal roles that Astrology's ordinary profile of each Sign indicates is most natural to its natives. And a disclaimer to that effect has appeared in every Signs of Survival thread that I've initiated.

In other words: Astrology is home to (12) Sun Signs, (4) Elements and (3) Modes/Qualities and informs us, for instance, that …

'Capricorn are born with a sense of purpose and an intense drive for achievement and excellence that never lets up. They are the major finishers of most projects begun by the pioneering Signs. Capricorn exude a sense of being in charge. And they usually are. But, even in their pursuit of status and power, they rarely compromise their integrity to get there.

These are the masters of the physical realm and are widely admired for what they’re able to accomplish. '

and that …

'Virgo combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are their hallmarks. They have an excellent eye for detail and because of their ability to see every angle of a multi-faceted problem, they are as unhappy with abstract theories as they are with intractable philosophies.

So, given their qualities, Virgo are much more effective in subordinate rather than leadership positions. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that leadership requires. They excel at the attainment of limited objectives: needing the stimuli of immediacy and the prestige attendant to specialization.'

and that …

'Aquarius are called the rebels of the Zodiac because of their total commitment to their unique vision. They’re uncompromisingly anchored in their own lives and grant that same autonomy to others. So, while the Aquarian nature is known as eccentric, that is only because it follows that personal golden thread of inspiration to the limits. And while this sometimes leads to great achievement, there’s always a chance that it can also lead to isolation. However, the native’s distain for the status quo – unlike the social activism of Sagittarius or the overt revolt of Aries – is most usually held in check by a quiet optimism.

Aquarius work most effectively within a group environment provided that they are recognized as having a leading role in the project. They’re tuned into a different frequency, and have a vast mindscape that seems to make them self-sufficient. And they’re often at the forefront of a cause before it becomes safe or fashionable.'

But Astrology wouldn't know a Superior Capricorn or a Subordinate Virgo or a Soloist Aquarius if she saw one. In fact, Astrology would almost certainly be righteously appalled by the affront to her dignity ...

To clarify: Marquesas was a season with too many chiefs and not enough Indians. There were 6 chiefs who were constantly fighting against each other so the biggest follower, Vee, won.

I go by Game Theory were the ideal tribe has 1 Chief and the rest are Indians so, even if there are still more Indians, having 7 Chiefs, (already down to 4), is too many. The in-fighting and the lack of harmony on both tribes prove it.

Michel,

Someday I’m going to sit down and watch Marquesas. Because it seems to be the source of all sorts of object lessons and controversies. Not the least of which is whether Vecepia’s successful navigation of its multiple alliances was the product of strategic brilliance, dumb luck or evil incarnate.

My own first impression of that Season’s winner was provided by KObrien_fan in a post to the first Signs of Survival during Guatemala: One last interesting note: In the seasons that have had a swap of tribe members, only one winner has come from the ranks of those being involved in changing tribes. And that is Vecepia, the very crafty and serpent like Sagittarius.

And, given the following from Jeff Probst’s latest Entertainment Weekly interview (brought here by Flowerpower - I think the lack of returning players combined with some very young people (Alec, Baylor, Wes) as well as guys like Keith, who don’t even really know the game, have combined to make this a very unpredictable season. You don’t have any “favorites” to win because for every Jeremy or Josh, who seem to be playing very hard, you have a Drew or a Keith, who can mess things up because of their very different style of game play. That leaves this thing wide open for somebody to steal it. The person who wins this season is going to have to do a great job of reading the playing field and seeing where the opportunities are for advancement ... – I think that we are going to hear a lot more about Season Four.

And now I’ve read your new post to Survivor 29: The Characters and their Stories and the second of the underlined sentences is so much the echo of the portion of Jon’s (Day 13) Confessional that you cited as a basis for considering him as a firm Sole Survivor candidate – We have so many couples here that it really is all about finding your couple that you match up with. The most important thing is to read a situation and be able to say: Is this the best thing for me now? So, I’m leaving room to make adjustments. – that it’s as though our host was mentally replaying the footage of the Confessional during the interview.

I’ve also now read your own and Flowerpower’s comments regarding Jon’s most excellent rapport with San Juan del Sur’s Howler Monkeys: a scene that reminded me of Cindy, Judd and the Howlers. Seems to be my week for Guatemala.

And I’d said earlier that I thought that this Season’s winner would be one of the five remaining Fire natives: Jeremy, Natalie, Keith, Jaclyn or Jon. But, because of Jeff Probst’s observation that he would never have guessed the identity of San Juan del Sur’s Sole Survivor at the beginning of filming, I had discounted Jeremy and Jon: I would think that Jon would almost certainly have been on Mr. Probst’s short list of players likely to win the Game. Jaclyn is, however, another matter. Note: Would Jeff Probst think that Amber stole All-Stars?

All of that said, it’s time for me to admit that if there are no stupid questions, the first one I posed to you came awfully darned close.

I simply got caught up in the numbers and I can’t tell you now (with any clarity) why. Because within the context of Missy’s ‘Too-many Chiefs and Too-few Indians' expression, numbers are irrelevant. In fact, I would submit that in Survivors Past there have been occasions when one Chief has been one too many for the wellbeing of a Tribe. I certainly agree, too, that if the choices of strategy are limited to two – Chief or Indian – then it is the surplus of Chiefs vis-à-vis Indians that is disturbing the peace in both San Juan del Sur camps.

And I must also admit that my acquaintance with Game Theory/The Nash Equilibrium is limited to the book and the film A Beautiful Mind and to KO’s and Rosie’s long-ago posts to Veruca's thread referencing the latter. And, if I remember correctly, the theory assumes that a game’s players have available to them a menu of three primary strategic identitiesLeader, Follower and Half-Breed – from which to choose at any juncture of the contest.

In fact, in one of her posts (again, to that first Signs of Survival), Whole Lotta Rosie suggested - You may want to bounce over to VS’s editing thread. KOB always does a great job on the Nash Equilibrium, and this ties in very well. Subordinates, Soloists, and Superiors is strategy defined; according to Nash.

Now, by the time of Rosie’s post, I had been reading VS’s thread for a Season (+). But I had to acknowledge then, as now, that I knew little to nothing about the intricacies of Nash. However, now, as then, I think of the basic natures of the two sets of labels as fundamentally different:

Leader, Follower and Half-Breed are hierarchal labels employed to link game-players with their chosen/adopted strategies. But the labels Superior, Subordinates and Soloists are meant to identify Survivors with their inherent/instinctive hierarchal roles.

In short: Leaders’, Followers and Half-Breeds are – actors. Superiors, Subordinates and Soloists simply – are.

And that last (expressed as a quote) is the premise of this thread: You cannot change who you are … eventually your true nature will win out — especially when you’re deprived of food and energy and you’re out in the open, trying to figure out a way to get along with people you don’t know if you can trust. We all have our set reactions, and that’s hard to suppress. If I’m a born leader, it’s hard for me to take a back seat. If I’m a follower by nature, it’s hard for me to lead. ~ Jeff Probst.

But, one of the many reasons that I follow your thread (and, before it, Veruca Salt’s) so closely, is that the fact remains that what Superiors, Subordinates or Soloists - are - is not always how they choose or appear to – behave – within the Game. For instance:

From Palau to date there have been six Subordinate winners – Parvati (Micronesia), Bob (Gabon), Natalie (Samoa), Jud (Nicaragua), Tyson (Blood v Water I) and Tony (Cagayan). However, in my opinion only three – Bob, Natalie and Jud – played the Game as would a Subordinate throughout their winning Season.

Tyson, I think, played all of Blood v Water I as would a Soloist. And Parvati and Tony played Micronesia and Cagayan as Subordinates to Superiors. Both co-opting the familial talents of (Superior) Cancer and Leo natives, Cirie and Amanda | Trish and *Spencer, to great advantage. Although, in both instances there seemed to be no doubt in the rank and file from quite early on that the eventual winners were actually commanding both Seasons.

And, it is the extraordinary skill with which you and your contributors translate the Edit that has, on more than a few occasions, prompted me to ask myself a) if a Survivor has chosen to play the Game out of his or her comfort zones – or b) if the Survivor’s edit is being heavily manipulated – or c) if the birthdate that I have for the Survivor is … wrong.

And currently I’m asking one of those questions – (Is) the Survivor’s edit being heavily manipulated? – about Wes and Reed. Because neither of the two Subordinate Signs – Gemini (Wes) nor Virgo (Reed) – routinely play the Game as quietly as these two appear to be playing it. Too, given your comment – I'd definitely see Wes, Reed and Missy as followers even if I think that Missy is mostly acting like a follower for now. – I suppose that I should begin looking for a question to pose about Missy. But, at the moment, I honestly don’t see anything to indicate that she didn’t play the Game as would a Subordinate throughout San Juan del Sur.

Note: I am certain of Missy’s and Reed’s birthdates. And fairly confident of Wes’s Sun Sign.

Finally – About Soloists | Independents | Renegades | Half-Breeds:

Earlier, I so closely associated Superior | Leader | Chief and Subordinate | Follower | Indian as to make them interchangeable. And given the direct correlations between those instinctive hierarchal identities and those adoptive hierarchal strategies – Superiors will most naturally act as Leaders (or Chiefs) and Subordinates will most naturally act as Followers (or Indians) – perhaps that doesn’t cloud the issue too badly. But it still needs to be remembered that – unlike Nash’s strategy-defined player who becomes a Leader who then becomes an Indian who becomes a Half-Breed – the Superior who elects to behave as would a Subordinate who then elects to behave as would a Soloist remains, throughout, a Superior – intrinsic characteristics, traits and behaviors intact.

And, earlier, I used the labels Soloist | Independent | Renegade in the same context. But (and here I really regret my ignorance of Game Theory/Nash), it would seem that the correct label is Half-Breed. And if the word is meant to denote a player exhibiting an ill-defined – muddled and/or confused – strategic identity, then Soloist and Half-Breed are certainly not interchangeable labels.

Because, I think that – no matter what the determinative origins of our individual traits and behaviors may or may not be – or what we may or may not believe them to be – there is substantial evidence that there are a significant number among us who as a matter of lifelong course put as much emotional, psychological and/or physical distance between themselves and the reciprocal | symbiotic relationship of Leader and Follower as their social circumstance permits. Who, as a group, exhibit a third discrete and well-defined complex of characteristics, traits and behaviors and who, as a group, neither Chiefs nor Indians be. And it is that group who, based upon their Sun Sign Profiles, I labeled Soloists.

I also think that there is substantial evidence that both within and without the Games that we play, sometimes the very best thing to be is Out of the Way ... of Generals and their Troops

*There is a possibility that Spencer is a Gemini.

I don't think there's a good correlation between "Soloists" and "Half-breeds" because, according to Game Theory, Half-breeds shouldn't win the game. I prefer to call them Outsiders because they aren't in the alliance. They can be the rebels or the annyoing players that get voted out.

I'd say that only 1 half-breed/Outsider has ever won Survivor and that was Fabio because he won many immunity challenges. Even then, Fabio was a diocile follower for a long time.

For example, I saw Tyson as a leader. Forming the alliance, keeping everyone in it happy and directing the vote are the main roles of a leader and that's what Tyson did.

I'm with Michel partly. Jon looks to be one of the frontrunners. But Jeremy clearly is narrating his tribe, even with Josh on it. I think like Tony and Kass last season the endgame rivalry is Jon against Jeremy.
