PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats, but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are encouraged to read the complete guidelines. "Australian Survivor"
Australian Survivor starts next Wednesday so for any other Aussies on the boards I’ve posted some info from the ninemsn site.

The tribes battled it out at Whaler’s Bay on Eyre Peninsula in South Australia during November/December. Although spring/summer this is a pretty rugged location with winds howling up from the Southern Ocean.

The coast along here was the site of numerous shipwrecks during the 19th century and the tribes are named after two of these wrecks. Tribal Council area is supposedly rigged up like a shipwreck.

Despite claims to be a multicultural society the contestants all look pretty much monocultural.

1. "Thanks, FF"
Thanks for posting this info. Feel free to post any info, articles, etc. related to Australian Survivor in this forum -- we'll break out a separate forum if there is enough interest. And, for those of you who want to see what the buzz is all about from Oz, here's the link to the Nine Network Web site for the show:

http://survivor.ninemsn.com.au/oz1/

Stephen Peters is the Executive Producer, and Lincoln Howes is the host.

I'm sure there won't be sufficient interest for a separate forum so I'm happy to post items here.

The free suburban newspaper Bayside Bulletin which drops into my letterbox each week has an article on the guy who designed the challenges as it seems he's a local.

------------------------
Contestants on Channel Nine's upcoming 'Australian Survivor' may have found living in the wilderness a little bit easier, thanks to survival expert Sean McBride.

Sean, who...owns his own survival training business 'Touch the Wild' was the games and challenges coordinator for the much-hyped reality TV show filmed around Port Lincoln, South Australia.

He also gave the show's contestants a few basic survival tips pior to filming. Sean, who had seen the American 'Survivor' series, contacted Channel Nine a few months before the Australian version started offering his services.

For 17 years, the former army commando has trained people to survive in the wild, by showing them how to build fires (without matches), find food and make shelter.

Sean was promptly hired, requiring him to move to South Australia for three months between September and December, 2001, where he designed the reward and immunity challenges for the show.

...concept of survivor blah blah blah...

Sean's challenges were inspired by kid's playgrounds, boardgames and his military background and tested contestants' physical and mental skills.

"The Survivors said they found some of them incredibly difficult, but they enjoyed them all", he said.

Sean, who later interviewed the contestants for his PhD in Anthropology at the University of Queensland said the dynamic of the Australian Survivors was very different from their divisive American counterparts.

"The people had a strong sense of mateship," he said. "People were very polite and friendly with each other, even with the other teams and in the competitions. "It was only when they had been there a long time, and the stresses and strain began to show, is when you got the personal conflicts coming out."

-------------------------------

What a guy. I'd love to read the interviews with the contestants for his PhD after they'd done his challenges.

And as for the mateship, saw some more of the survivors on television tonight and I'm prepared to dislike David.

Starts tomorrow night.

Well, Aya--I had to track down the hijack of the other thread (do I detect some modesty was behind the move , as well as the fact that it didn't really belong on S4 Spoilers?), which led me to check out this one, which led me to follow your link to the actual website, which led me to. . .

AARRRGGGH!! It looks like the Devil Incarnate!

No? Ahhhh. . . it's not HER, it's just LUCINDA, one of the new Survivors. . .

Actually, she came off--in print--as a decent-enough person (not at all what her initial impression made ) and I'm left wondering how they could actually have chosen to make her the first boot. . . Jeff kept everyone awake all night with his snoring (maybe he was on the other tribe? I can't remember.) David became deathly ill and felt like he was the obvious liability? And yet Lucinda offers to go, saying she's the one least likely to handle the challenges? Very odd--she goes, with EIGHT votes! Apparently, Lucinda signed on without grasping the true nature of the game--who'd've ever thunk it'd be so PHYSICAL!

One thing I find interesting is that the tribes were given a choice as to where to set up camp--one by the coast, where the food will be found, and one inland, where the fresh water is--and they will alternate days when they can take advantage of each (a long hike, for the opposite resource.) I'm curious to see if following a show that I can't actually watch will be something I can remember to keep up with. So far, it seems to be satisfying my insane need for this kind of drivel.
