i know it's old news but forgive me, i just got cable. is this show supposed to be a joke? it has to be the most messed up cooking show i've ever seen. that one interrupting male with the questionable sexuality that always interrupts: Fukui-san! these people are highly over excited about the whole thing. it's kind of creepy... ~ cq

It's been a cult favorite for years. They did a couple of episodes in the US, one where they put up Morimoto against Bobby Flay. Flay had a meltdown, literally. His stove blew up or something and he lost.
They even tried a US version staring William Shatner (it didn't last long, not the same without the voiceovers).
I just checked. Tomorrow is Liver Battle. Yummy.

Check out Good Eats. If you love science you will love this. He's been known to go down to the molecular level to explain why food does what it does under certain circumstances. Plus he has a weird sense of humor.

I *HEART* Iron Chef!!! It's one of my favorite TV shows of all time!
We've discussed this show in OT some months ago, even had an OT competition (where I cleverly used Macaroni and Cheese to garner points ).

I *heart* Iron Chef as well! My favorite chef is Chen Kenichi. Man, dh and I LOVE the show and were thrilled when we found out it was aired on the military network. BEST.COOKING.SHOW.EVER!
Now just tell me your favorite part is when Chairman Kaga bites into the pepper and makes the most hilarious face ever
OMH, I just looked on foodTV and there is a King of Iron Chefs battle? NO WAY! Man I wish we had recent episodes here. Dawg, you'll have to keep me updated!
Oh and I love the skinny male judge with glasses (some sort of politician) who always picks the challenger - Kurimoto Shinichiro. He says some FUNNY stuff!

Chen impressed the heck out of me one time when he was up against a renowned French chef, and the ingredient was something very French, like truffles. Chen actually tied the guy, then in the overtime they either tied again or Chen won. Just an unbelievable effort by Chen.
Right now the Iron Chef episodes are in reruns. They are no longer making them in Japan and I'm not sure how long or when the Food Network will continue to run them.

I LOVE this show. I think its hilarious how intense they are about the food. The commentaries are great. I was watching an episode a few months ago and apparently, the show is over...now we have to watch reruns. I know its creepy, but its funny. However, i think that the italian or french iron chef (i don't remember which) who is supposed to be the youngest looks older than the other chefs...weird.
