I also found I'm a stranger here myself : notes on returning to America after twenty years away / Bill Bryson. I've got to read this to see if the culture shock in reverse that I experienced mirrors what he experienced. He wrote that in 1999 and I returned to the U.S. not long afterward in 2004, so the timing is almost the same.
