$500 or so at 19% interest will cost you an extra $90 or so if you take a year to pay it back, so pay it back in half the time. Or if you can string two emergency-less months together, pay it back in two payments. Even at a high rate that doesn't add much to the bill.

The plus side is that you will have the Kindle all the while, and each monthly payment that has been paid can't be pulled back no matter what emergency arises, or how earnest the plea for bail is. It's a forced savings plan of a kind.
