"FOX Gets Wise to 'Test the Nation'"
LAST EDITED ON 02-04-03 AT 06:13 PM (EST)

Does the thought of FOX doing a show to test the nation's intelligence just seem wrong to anyone else? History Channel, Discovery Channel, even the other networks, OK, but FOX??? Maybe they'll use the same test they gave to the cast of Joe Millionaire.

FOX Gets Wise to 'Test the Nation'
Mon, Feb 3, 2003 01:35 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - If you ever wanted to prove you're smarter than your know-it-all cousin, FOX has a show for you.

The network will air a two-hour special called "Test the Nation" in April that will let both in-studio participants and viewers measure their IQs against one another. Similar shows have aired in the United Kingdom and other European nations, where they've done well in the ratings.

The appeal of the show, executive producer Phil Gurin says, is that "it's not a game show."

"There are no prizes," he says. "Instead, we'll find out if New York is smarter than Boston, if you are smarter than your friends -- everyone will have their own results after they've taken the test."

The in-studio participants will be a cross-section of people from all over the United States, with a few famous faces sprinkled in. Their scores on the test will be used as a sample to determine whether, say, people from the Midwest score higher than people from the West Coast, or whether women are smarter than men.

"Test the Nation" is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET Friday, April 11 on FOX.

Actually, if you take the time to look around you - I mean really look all around - you'll be able to see that Fox's growing ratings are no surprise and that Fox is probably the perfect place to reflect on the nation's intellect.
