"Rank the Couples" |
Let's rank the remaining four couples based on all three of their performances thus far.1. John & Charlotte 2. Rachel & Jonathan 3. Joey & Ashly 4. Kelly & Alec The top three are all very close. I think Rachel has probably been the most consistent but I haven't liked their choreography as much as the others. John & Charlotte work well as a couple, as do Joey & Ashly. Joey & Ashly are more fun, but Joey misses steps quite a bit. Kelly & Alec are out of their league. So...what do you think? Got blog?

I really like John and Charlotte and Joey and Ashly the most and would be happy with either team winning. They're certainly very different in their styles- John is very much in the debonair, Fred Astaire mold- the image of a ballroom dancer. Joey is just a lot of fun to watch. I'd love to see him get a part on Broadway or a road company version of "Grease". I think he'd be great. Rachel is also my favorite female dancer in the group. I think that Kelly is a major reason why it's really good that the phone voting is limited to five calls. Her soap opera audience could keep her here until the end. I was happy for her to finally get some good feedback but I hope she goes next.

Here are my picks:1.John and Charlotta: By and far the best, IMO. I have a feeling his tango would have been out of this world if he had had a few more days to practice. (I actually stood up and cheered for him. It takes a lot to make me do this.). 2. Joey and Ashly: Joey was dead on about adding the "show" to their choreography. Adding a story made their dance fun to watch. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't even notice the sloppy footwork of his. I give Ashly kudos for letting the pupil teach the teacher something, too! 3. Rachel and Jonathan: I am not a Rachel fan. I don't see what everyone and the judges keep seeing. She seems awkward and stiff to me. With the tango, I thought her stiffness would come in handy, but I really didn't like her dance. It lacks pizazz to me. 4. Kelly and Alec: Better this week, but the judges said it. She doesn't feel the music. You can't win a professional dance contest if you can't feel the music. She needs to loosen up...has she never let herself go and danced her heart out to some cool song? I thought everyone does that at some time in their live? If Alec was smart, he would take the time to have her do that before next week. Just to add, I have been thoroughly enjoying this show. Way back when, my husband and I took ballroom dance classes before our wedding. I got a chance to dance a waltz with a real professional, and that is the closest I have ever been to heaven. I even let him lead !

1. John & CharlotteI love these two! John always looks elegant & in control on the dance floor. They seem to be "matched" as partners in that neither one totally overshadows the other. John has to watch that he stays in character and doesn't start mugging on the dance floor. He dances with everything he has--and it is obvious. The judges love him. If they don't mess up they should win. 2. Joey & Ashly Another good couple. Yeah, Joey always looks a bit surprised. It's not a bad expression--just unexpected. However I guess the standard for a male dancer is more of a Latin smoulder and I don't think Joey's facial features are ever going to portray that. He is innovative and fun but the judges don't like him so I doubt if they will win. He (like John) seems better able to keep up with his partner. He messed up quite a bit of footwork in the jazz number but to me the worse disconnect there was that he was in a period costume and his partner was not. 3. Rachel & Jonathan Rachel is graceful & beautiful and she dances with the music and relates to her partner throughout the dance. She is far and away the best of the celebrity women. That said, if she ever had to do a dance where she couldn't do a back-arching leg stretch pose she might not look so good because I don't see a lot of good footwork from her. She really relies on her partner--but that's fine for a woman in dance world. 44. Kelly & Alec Kelly just doesn't get it. Her facial expressions are good, she shakes her hootchie good, she relates to her partner well, but she seems to be doing a series of canned moves not a dance--and she is very inconsistent with the music like she is not really listening to it. I like her partner--he is really trying to help her but she doesn't stay sharp to his cues. LOL--do I sound like an idiot! I know ice skating a little so I can recognize when people are in the music and when they're not. But dance? Not me.

1. Rachel & Jonathon - I think she's not getting enough votes because people don't like her personality but I think she has real style. Plus her partner is handsome!2. John & Charlotte - I have no doubt they'll win. His personality gets him far. It forces us to focus on his face and not on his footwork. I admire his effort, he really puts all of himself into it. These two have great chemistry together. 3. Joey & Ashly - Joey does have some dance experience since he was in a boy band - not exactly ballroom dancing but he also not starting from scratch. Kelly & Alec - Not even worth putting on the chart. I don't care for her at all. She wriggles and slithers like a stripper, not a ballroom dancer.

1. John & Charlotte 2. Rachel & Jonathan 3. Joey & Ashley 4. Kelly & AlecJohn & Charlotte have great chemistry together and are so fun to watch. He seems really charming and it shows in his dancing. Plus he's at least 20 years older than Joey. Rachel is beautiful with great posture, lines and legs. She never seems to look at her partner and seems whiny. It will be interesting to see how she does with a quick step like the jive. Joey and Ashley were my favorites the first week and have dropped. They needed more entertainment value but that last dance was too much flailing and flinging and not enough control. Dial it back a notch. And Joey looked pissed when the judges didn't fawn all over his choregraphy (such as it was). Kelly seems spunky and wears some sexy outfits. She and her dance partner have good chemistry too but they do seem out of their league. Hopefully, they're next to go.

10. "RE: Rank the Couples" |
Rachel/Jonathan - Last Too much reliance on her classical ballet training. Partly the fault of whomever assigns the dancing. I would have liked to see how she would have done with the jive.Joey/Ashly - second to last Heavy reliance on his boy-band hip-hop dancing. Again, I would have liked to see him try the tango to show a different side of himself. Not his fault if he doesn't get the chance to show us something different, but still, I can't judge what I haven't seen. John/Charlotte - second These two have been smooth from day one. Love John's expressions, they both look like they stepped out of an old movie. John has been on broadway and I believe has experience leading. I really like these two, but they also feel a bit repetitive in what they do. No surprises for me. Maybe the samba will give me a different impression. Kelly/Alec - first place with me I always look forward to seeing what they will do. Each of their numbers, the waltz, the rumba, and the jive, have been entirely different. Like Evander, Kelly has no dance experience at all. I looked forward to watching the show to see amateurs try to learn how to dance so Kelly and Evander met my critera With Kelly, I never know what to expect and this week is no exception.
