It is inhumane. It is proof of the existence of organized, corruptive evil on Earth. It is insidious, cruel, and the true enemy of all we hold dear. It is going to be twelve minutes before the thing lets me fail this level. Again.

One of the gifts from Santa this year (actually from DS) is the game Catan. It's one of the better easy-to-play strategy games I've seen lately. And guess who won? The fourth grader in the house!

You can play it on facebook, or on a tablet as well. The more ways to rope you in the better.

Never have played this game on any format - tablet, phone, laptop, facebook, etc. And it sounds like I'm better off not trying it in the first place!

Pepe, it's a member of the Match Three (on up) game family: the best way to describe it may be 'Bejeweled with extra sadism and a semi-optional payment installment plan.' I've only been playing it for a few days and I can already see where this is going: straight through the whips and chains, hard left when you see the electrodes and if you ever spot daylight, you're going the wrong way.The very partial compensation for the various evils of the level design: the special items you get for matching four on up can be combined with each other for board-blasting effects. What gives the game most of its charm for me is seeing just what each combination does. The punch in the face was partially described by today's not-random trope: Bribing Your Way To Victory, with a nod towards Allegedly Free Game. I got the thing from the Kindle app store at no cost. And you can play through the first thirty-five levels for free. However... ...this game may have started on Facebook. Which might just say it all, but let's detail the evil a bit. (And yes, I'm duplicating some of the trope bits here.) You get five lives. If you run out of them while playing, you can pick up with the level you lost at once you get at least one back. However, the recharge rate is one per half-hour. Or you can beg your Facebook friends for them. Or, to hit the trope, pay ninety-nine cents for an instant full set. You're dealt a random assortment of matching pieces for each level: play the same one fifty times and you'll probably have fifty arrangements. Some piece starts can make things nearly impossible -- but if you pay out another ninety-nine cents, you can start a game with one or more special pieces already in place. However, you're playing that fee each time you want that edge. After level thirty-five, the game is still free -- sort of. You can pass three challenges to open the next phase. The game allows you to pass one challenge per day and will time twenty-four hours from the moment you beat one before allowing another to begin. Or... ninety-nine cents... I heard that the designers offer a Booster Wheel where you can take one free spin per day to get a random something which would normally cost you ninety-nine cents. And that's fine if you hit the right item. But it's also 'Look at what your Cool Power does? Want some more? Only ninety-nine cents...' You can see the accumulation beginning to punch you in the face. Someone on a stubborn 'I will beat this level tonight if it kills me' death drive can blow through twenty bucks in a single session just from purchasing the quick-recharge lives to keep losing with. Keep pushing through the game at maximum speed with bad luck plus open budget and the last level might as well be named Chapter 11. It's the Father Guido Sarducci game: ninety-nine, ninety-nine, ninety-nine -- and all gone. So far, I've kept it at that free rate. But honestly? I kind of preferred paying for all of Bejeweled at the start and knowing the game was complete. And if this reaches the stage where the only path to victory is that series of mini-bribes? I'll probably quit.

On facebook you just ask friends (fellow addicts) to respond and it gets you the three friends to get you past to the next level, which then depends on how often your fellow addicts play.

I've been pretty good at just playing for free. Just got sucked in once or twice. It is very frustrating to be one move away from finally finishing a level.

149. And it really sucks the fun out of playing the game. But when you finally get through being stuck at a level (all free, have not spent a dime on this game) you want to yell WOOO and do a cartwheel.

32. "Candy Crush - Help Wanted" |
I play, and like others up there have never spent a penny on it. I am stuck on a level now, and this may be the best thing to make me quit. (since I won't spend money to get by this level). But then I found this secondary branch off the map - this new land called Dreamworld. It is a lot like the regular Candy Crush route, but with the added challenge that there is a need to keep a balance between two colours or risk tipping the owl off his roost. That I can understand. But what I don't understand, and what I am hoping for help on, is what makes the owl do his "Moonstruck". This is the power flight when the owl flies (without falling) and he destroys a lot of candy and really helps the level. But I can't understand how to help this happen sooner. Did I miss an instruction at some point? Help?

thanks. That was my understanding also. I wondered if the yellow fills more when he is balanced or unbalanced, or if the balance colours had more impact on the growing yellow. I have not figured out the pattern yet.

38. "RE: Level 86" |
LAST EDITED ON 01-17-14 AT 11:18 AM (EST)I now suspect the game company is reading this thread: I gave the level one final pre-deletion shot and made it by that much, getting a 'random' arrangement which allowed me to open a pair of locks immediately and then 'randomly' dropping the setup for a pair of color bombs which cleared out the deadwood, allowing the win. That's a lot of hacking just to get a shot at ninety-nine cents. ETA: Inevitably, there is a Candy Crush Saga wiki, which rates the various boards and provides hints for getting past them, along with video walkthroughs. I just consulted them for the first time and found a 'Hard' rating on L86. Comforting. As for their recommended strategy, I quote: "Make as many vertical striped candies as possible, and do not hesitate to break liquorice and locked candies. Color bomb + striped combo is a huge help, and so is colour bomb + wrapped because it reduces the amount of colors, which makes the level easier. Wrapped candies alone are also good for tackling the liquorice directly. It is very important to tackle from both sides, as bottom corner jellies can become a problem. The real strategy for this level, however, is to play it enough times so that sufficient opportunities for wrapped & striped candies come up. Without these useful combos, it is unlikely to complete this level on most given tries, and it will take several attempts for blind luck to favor upon you. Aside from the obvious tactics previously mentioned, color bomb + color bomb instantly clears all the liquorice, but it is very unlikely to happen. This level is all about just luck of the draw and get the color bomb + color bomb combo." In other words, just keep spinning the reels and maybe you'll see a jackpot.

I have an I-pad and had a problem with it. When I called Apple for help they had me reset the network settings and it worked and does save everything I had on here. I would also be very annoyed if I lost all my stuff and progress like you did. I've had to reset it like that a couple of times. Don't know if that would help on your kindle or not.

Happened yesterday. I now have access to the Dreamworld levels and the code installed the once-daily free booster wheel on site, so I can take the spin without needing Facebook. Helpful. Doesn't change my having been stuck on the same level for a week, but maybe after two weeks of spins...

Paraphrasing the wiki on how to beat this level.1. Spin the free booster wheel once per day. 2. Build up twenty-eight lollipop hammers. 3. Break all the icing and move on. So about one year of spins. Sounds plausible. (It's ranked as one of the worst levels in the entire game.)
