PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

From our own coverage: 'In addition, the new season will feature a twist in which the team that finishes first during the Race's initial leg will receive "a surprise, game-changing advantage," according to CBS.Uh-oh. Okay -- this could be almost anything. Nightmare level is 'eliminate the team of your choice right now'. Nearly as bad would be 'Here's a Fast Forward. Use it on any leg of your choice up until the next-to-last.' Subtle could include 'Switch off on the one Roadblock of your choice.' Middle might be 'Skip one Roadblock of your choice without penalty -- after you've already tried to do it.' Ideas?
The Arctic Circle? Cold bunch points ahead.

LAST EDITED ON 09-01-10 AT 02:36 PM (EST)Or a team exception from the Chip & Kim roadblock split rule. I thought about that one: the effective power would depend on which team it winds up with. The power to switch players during a Roadblock might have more long-term effectiveness, but making it a perpetual power produces its own issues... 'Open Sesame' is an interesting one: it basically turns into 'skip one bunch point.' The two major problems with it are staff-related (the producers have to hire people to be there at all hours) and task-tied (some things just can't be done in the dark). But timed properly, it could be better than a Fast Forward. Or based on the look and quantity of younger female teams, maybe their first-leg advantage is an extra $50K bonus for posing for Playboy after the race. I think you're severely overestimating the basic Playboy paycheck: that bonus is twice your average centerfold's compensation.

Huh. It's a relaxer for the team that gets it, but it's potentially more than a little unfair for whoever finished next-to-last on that leg. Do you give them the Speed Bump? Toss them off the course? Plan out the route so that you can create an extra leg as needed, figuring the advantaged team will finish last at some point? Calibrating the course with this trick is a feat in itself.
