Posting this early to alert Canadians (and those of you living in border communities) that CTV is airing TAR an hour earlier tonight so they can show both TAR and the Oscars. And the show might be late on CBS - they've got the Michigan-Michigan State game here running a bit long right now but I don't know if this is a national game or just a local game. Anyone keeping an eye on Gus tonight? He'll be despondent watching the Gus Memorial Beer Run challenge.

Now I very easily could be wrong, but I think I remember that my friend that yearly travels to Germany told me one time (and I think I might've also seen something similar on a No Reservations....) that beer is served warm over there.........

Well, it depends on the beer, they were drinking the cheap lager so that would have been served chilled, although not as cold as Americans serve beer, however we don't know how long the beers had been sitting there warming up.
FTR Generally in Europe beer is served chilled so that one can taste it.

Stout or porter beer is often served at "room temperature" -- and by that I don't mean at 70F, but rather at the cellar temperature which, IIRC, is about 50-ish F. Nobody drinks "warm" beer in any place as far as I know, not even the British.
I'll echo what was said earlier about it appearing to be lagers, which would have to be served at a colder temperature than what a stout or porter would be served at. Even Guinness is now typically served at a colder temperature these days than they did in the past.

It actually goes down easier if it's just cool. It goes down real easy if it is just cool, and you ade hot and sweaty.
I think Germans call it something like Kellerkool (sp?) for cellar cool.
Porter (the beer in the challenge appeared to be lager) goes down real easy too. It's (for me) more of a sipping ber, but it's easy to drink aven tho it's not icey.

Let's be serious...
German law basically makes it impossible to brew a good bottom-fermented beer (i.e., lager) in the country. Really good German beers (Alt and Koelsch) are top-fermented. Most everything else is pilsner, and most of it is bitter and inferior. Unlike Belgium, there are very few microbreweries.
If you go into a German pub, especially in Hamburg (whose brewing culture was wiped out about 100 years ago), you'll be overwhelmed by cheap pilsner. Considering how quickly Jeff guzzled his boot, I expect that's what the beer was. Probably about the quality of one of the old Heilemann brews (Blatz or Pabst), except more bitter.

Did not know that. But pilsner is just a light lager, both are bottom fermented, right?
It would be hard to drink anything in that quantity, even water or gatorade. Germans do sem to give the old army try though, with those liter steins.
I perfer an ice cold Mexican lager (pilsner?), so what do I know. Except that warm (cool) porter is much easier to drink than I would have belived before I tried it. I look forward to a trip thru England, Germany and Belgium on a beer tour. Right after my single malt tour of Scotland.

Right. And Germany produces more bad pilsner than even the U.S.

America does make good beer commercials though.
