"TAR 16, Episode 4 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"

Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 05:42 PM
Posting this early to alert Canadians (and those of you living in border communities) that CTV is airing TAR an hour earlier tonight so they can show both TAR and the Oscars.

And the show might be late on CBS - they've got the Michigan-Michigan State game here running a bit long right now but I don't know if this is a national game or just a local game.

Anyone keeping an eye on Gus tonight? He'll be despondent watching the Gus Memorial Beer Run challenge.

He's elected to self-medicate his way through the pain.

It looks like the States will pretty much be on time: you might want to record an extra thirty seconds if you want the next-episode preview, but that's it. And given a choice between this and the Oscars, I'll take the show with the more intelligent contestants.

*waits*

Considering this race's teams vs brain dead actors it is a complete toss-up to me which show you mean

Tonight's play-by-play will be (mostly) brought to you by Percocet and Amoxicillin. I need it in order to get through an hour of Jeff/Jordan.

This can't be good. The pills are making me so loopy that I'm seeing two each of Jeff/Jordan and Brent/Caite. And they're together on the intersection, yikes.

Too bad all the teams arrived 2 by 2. It would have only been fun if 3 teams arrived together

& they all seemed to arrive with a team that they oiked and would have fun together.

"Beer"

And they are off to the land of beer!

"Travel"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 03-07-10 at 07:07 PM
And 11 hour to flight time means major bunch point.

And who goes on TAR if they don't like travel?

"Hamburg, Germany"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:06 PM
That's where we're off to next, with Jet and Cord being the first team to leave the pit stop. They've got 11 hours to the next flight, so it's a mass bunching point.

"RE: TAR 16, Episode 4 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:10 PM
Upon arriving in Hamburg, teams realize they have an intersection. Jet and Cord team up with Louie and Michael as the first intersection team.

They have to take a train to Hamburg Harbour to take a 150-foot bungee jump.

"What a surprise..."
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:17 PM
Caite and Jordan are on the train headed in the wrong direction.

Bungee jump with a hat on, and it stays on!

LOL... they do the bungee jump and the cowboy with the black hat still has it on his head after the jump.

Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:20 PM
After the bungee jump, teams must find the statue of Kaiser Wilhelm.

Detour: Soccer or Sauerkraut.

In soccer, they must hit five targets set up in a goal. In sauerkraut, they must finish a whole plateful before a polka song ends.

Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:24 PM
Louie and Michael absolutely destroys the plate of sauerkraut, and have plenty of time to lick the plate completely clean.

Now they're off to a bar to guzzle a big-ass glass of beer.

Sauerkraut eat with a time limit, not for me.

"RE: TAR 16, Episode 4 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:25 PM
Nope, I'd definitely be doing the soccer one if I was there - I can't stand sauerkraut.

After guzzling the beer (surprised it took Louie and Michael so long to finish it), they're off to Beatle-Plaz for their next clue.

Meanwhile, Caite is lost. Quelle surprise!

"RE: TAR 16, Episode 4 - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
Posted by PepeLePew13 on 03-07-10 at 07:36 PM
Louie and Michael is Team Number 1! Beatle-plaz is a bar in honour of the Beatles and a Beatle look-alike greeted them at the pit stop inside the bar.

"Waiters"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 03-07-10 at 07:43 PM
Am I the only one who finds it amusing how the waiters just calmly stand there as the American stuff their faces then lick the plate?

As for the beer, Gus must be crying at all the people who don't like German beer.

"How about the polka band?"

I didn't even know Riff-Raff could play an instrument.

After a very nice kick to start things off, Caite gets hurt. Meanwhile, Jeff/Jordan bails out on the sauerkraut and head on over to the soccer pitch.

Mmmmm, looks like it's either Brent/Caite or Jeff/Jordan who are in danger of being Philiminated this week.

"Beer"
Posted by Earl Colby Pottinger on 03-07-10 at 07:53 PM
Germans laugh at those who can't hold their beer, and cheer the ones who can just drink it down.

Ask the older people to find the Beatles because younger folks don't know them.

Am I the only oldie foggie here?

"Order of finish..."

LAST EDITED ON 03-07-10 AT 07:55 PM (EST)

1. Louie/Michael
2. Steve/Allie
3. Joe/Heidi
4. A rather giddy Jet/Cord who proclaim they never want another beer again. “Cord, we’re no longer in the Bible Belt!”
5. Carol/Brandy
6. Dan/Jordan
7. Brent/Caite (Brent throws up after drinking the beer)
8. Jordan/Jeff

It's a non-elimination! America barfs.

It's because of the all the beer they drunk. ;)

"It's a non-elimination! America barfs. "

We all knew that was going to happen though. Dumb and Dumberer's oblivious slapstick is just too good to let get away this soon.

Just like in BB, Jordan's artless naiveté is hilarious.

The race is coming on again on another Canadian station at 8pm.

This explains the lack of posters, many must be planning to watch at their regular time.

"About that beer...."
Posted by vince3 on 03-07-10 at 09:32 PM
Now I very easily could be wrong, but I think I remember that my friend that yearly travels to Germany told me one time (and I think I might've also seen something similar on a No Reservations....) that beer is served warm over there.........

Maybe that's why there were problems?

"RE: About that beer...."
Posted by Starshine on 03-08-10 at 08:28 AM
Well, it depends on the beer, they were drinking the cheap lager so that would have been served chilled, although not as cold as Americans serve beer, however we don't know how long the beers had been sitting there warming up.

FTR Generally in Europe beer is served chilled so that one can taste it.

That was a lot of darn beer. I wouldn't have been able to drink it - the taste and smell of beer makes me gag.

Stout or porter beer is often served at "room temperature" -- and by that I don't mean at 70F, but rather at the cellar temperature which, IIRC, is about 50-ish F. Nobody drinks "warm" beer in any place as far as I know, not even the British.

I'll echo what was said earlier about it appearing to be lagers, which would have to be served at a colder temperature than what a stout or porter would be served at. Even Guinness is now typically served at a colder temperature these days than they did in the past.

It actually goes down easier if it's just cool. It goes down real easy if it is just cool, and you ade hot and sweaty.

I think Germans call it something like Kellerkool (sp?) for cellar cool.

Porter (the beer in the challenge appeared to be lager) goes down real easy too. It's (for me) more of a sipping ber, but it's easy to drink aven tho it's not icey.

Let's be serious...

German law basically makes it impossible to brew a good bottom-fermented beer (i.e., lager) in the country. Really good German beers (Alt and Koelsch) are top-fermented. Most everything else is pilsner, and most of it is bitter and inferior. Unlike Belgium, there are very few microbreweries.

If you go into a German pub, especially in Hamburg (whose brewing culture was wiped out about 100 years ago), you'll be overwhelmed by cheap pilsner. Considering how quickly Jeff guzzled his boot, I expect that's what the beer was. Probably about the quality of one of the old Heilemann brews (Blatz or Pabst), except more bitter.

"RE: About that beer...."
Posted by kingfish on 03-08-10 at 07:10 PM
Did not know that. But pilsner is just a light lager, both are bottom fermented, right?

It would be hard to drink anything in that quantity, even water or gatorade. Germans do sem to give the old army try though, with those liter steins.

I perfer an ice cold Mexican lager (pilsner?), so what do I know. Except that warm (cool) porter is much easier to drink than I would have belived before I tried it. I look forward to a trip thru England, Germany and Belgium on a beer tour. Right after my single malt tour of Scotland.

>But pilsner is just a light lager, both are bottom fermented, right?

Right. And Germany produces more bad pilsner than even the U.S.

Where's Slicey, we need a good knock-down no-holds-barred debate about beer!

I promise to not get mad if anyone knocks my favorites. I'll..I'll just hold it in, and kick a brick.

America does make good beer commercials though.
