"Favorite dance style?"
I lvoe seeing so many different styles. I'll admit that during the first season, I was so completely UNfamiliar with hip hop and at first thought "this is dancing"? As the season progressed, I started enjoying it.

After seeing the 2 country music line dancers, I wondered if they will add some different styles besides the ones they have used before. I think it was be interesting if line dancing could possibly be a new style that they might use for the final 20 to learn!
County Music Line dancing is really fun and can be extremely complicated. Personally I'd lvoe to see this at least once.

Anyone else?
Or any other dance styles you'd like to see the final 20 do?

1. "RE: Favorite dance style?"
You're right. They've never done country line dancing.
It would be fun to watch the group do a line dance together as a showcase. But watching pairs do it? I dunno.

We've also never seen ballet or tap.
People would be dropping like cowpies if they decided to initiate one of these two disciplines into the weekly dance repertoire. But those who succeeded would earn even more cred.

For giggles, I wouldn't mind seeing the lambada. But that's for obvious reasons. None of which have anything to do with dance.

Hmmmmm I wonder what it would have something to do with?

For me, it's more of a personal thing. I can understand why they would put more hip hop into the show, simply because of the perceived average age of the audience. But, personally I'd like to see more latin dancing and much less hip hop.

I agree with you Dan on the more latin & less hiphop. More traditional ballroom dancing.
When they do the hiphop and *whatever that other thing is they do that all the young croud is into*, it is obvious that they can either learn routines or they can't. BUT when they do the ballroom dancing, there is no much to how they hold their bodies, arms, backs, etc. (you know I have watched my share of DWTS, LOL)
Maybe all that is important in the hip hop but you couldn't prove it by me!

uprocking, breakdancing, krumping, popping...

These are the dancers that impress me the most. The do some of the wildest moves that you can easily break your neck doing. But it's true that mostly that's all they can do and not any of the other types of dances.

I must admit that after seeing some of the people really do it well this year, I've become a fan of it as well. Those are some pretty amazing moves. Fred Astaire (or Gene Kelly) once spoke of it in awe. I guess they would know.

I love watching the latin and ballroom styles when the couple has to worry about their shared axis as well as their own personal axis. Unfortunately, the latin styles seem to be moving away from closed partnership and more to the side by side "shine". And I am not THAT old, but I remember a time when the latin dances had a real distinct flavour to them. Rhumbas were slow and sensual -- technically still very demanding, cha-chas were fun and flirty, etc. Now, it is all about blistering speed, spin the girl away from you, spin her towards you, spin her away again, throw her into some splits. I think the dances are losing what makes them special -- OOPS {/soap box}
Even though I am not a CW fan, I would enjoy some country western couples dancing (you would think the producers are ignoring a huge demographic out there).

I was not a huge fan of hiphop especially in couples dancing, but I have to admit, I do really like Shane Sparks's routines. He seems to transcend typical hiphop choreography and allows his dancers relate to each other and to do soul revelation.

I would love to see tap, clogging, highland dancing etc. I think Tribey is right, it would be very hard to hide people's flaws and would take them too long to get even basic mastery.

Belly dancing would be fun (we have a male belly dancer in town here, he is phenomenal!), it would be interesting to see if the technically trained dancers could get 'earthy' enough so the dance did not look so sterile (the ballet school here just did a production of Aladdin. The dancing girls were cringe worthy how ackward they were.). And we would get to see the men's abs

And if they still have Alex DiSilva as a choreographer -- PLEASE NO ARGENTINE TANGO - it's like a dagger through my poor widdle heart.

I've danced with Tribe! 2007

Yeah, I like Shane's choreography, and I'd love to see that white guy from Texas really get going as well (the guy that made Shane howl).

Loved the Tranji dance last year. Hope to see them reprieve it this year as part of the entertainment.

Hubby and I love watching the international and national latin and ballroom dance competitions, so those are natural hits w/us. But hip hop to me seems like something from a music video or a commercial. And yes, I think they put so much of it in because of their perceived audience...but surely I'm not the only "oldster" who watches!

Line dancing sounds interesting, as does the river-dance style, whatever it is called.

I just want to see movement that fits the music--not something so abstract it appears that the dancers are hearing a different song than we are.

Not sure how they would work line dancing into the choreography for two people but it could be fun to watch for one of the group dances. I wonder if they'll put some lindy hop or charleston in the rotation after enjoying the lindy hop twins so much during audtions.

I love the hip-hop and ballroom dances and it's hard to say what they should change or reduce. They can't focus on any one particular style and as a show for all around dancing, you just dont see too many shows, commercials or videos of any style that feature ballroom so I think they have to keep the mix where it is to keep it real.

Anyone else have any ideas on the practical impact of dance opportunities that are available on the show?

I was thinking about job opportunities. I'd be interested to learn how many job opportunities there are for ballroom dancers and the like though. It seems like most jobs are either lyrical in nature or music videos and the like sporting more of the hip-hop style.

I did love Benji in Christina Aguileras CandyMan video though.

I always assumed the prize money was enough on the professional ballroom circuit you could earn a living that way. It may not be as high profile as some other dance opportunities.

I was looking through some youtube videos last night because I remembered a few clips that I wanted to see again from Season 1. It was during Season 1, watching Blake McGrath that I totally fell in love with the lyrical routines. He is so amazing and passionate. My favorite dancers last year were, Travis, Natalie, Allison, and Ivan (the last not necessarily for his dancing skills ~though he isn't lacking in that department~ I had a total maternal adoration for him. He's what this competition is about. *sob* ). So again with the contemporary dancers.

Those lyrical routines just have a way of ripping at my insides and twisting them all around. When they're done well, of course.

Blake in Mia's class
Natalie solo to Lamentation

(I could find more if I could actually see the youtubey at work.)
