Wonder who will take IV place next season

I certainly hope IV comes back. Rana was cool, and Rhonda is sweet...but I would need someone hard nosed and tough loving like IV to help ME!!! She certainly has some eccentric movements and words, but she is a GODDESS...remember? Please bring IV back............she makes the show!! She is creative, and though some people bash her, I really think she has the power to help millions. I've been in counseling for awhile, and my counseler has never invoked some feelings that IV has done in myself. I'm sure others agree.

I saw IV in person two weeks ago and she said that the reason she didn't do the first season was because of her dying daughter. She encouraged all of us to contact our local stations to keep SO on the air because ratings are so important and feedback is necessary. IV and Rhonda are both treasures.

How do we keep Iv on? She has so many fans here. We all love her and her balls to the wall attitude. Who would we need to contact. All of my friends watch the show and we get together to talk everyday...I would hate to see SO go off the network. I wake up early just to watch it and have been known to schedule appointments so I can see the show. How do we stop this

I'd much rather see Rhonda go than Iyanla.
After the first season, I'd've preferred seeing Rhonda go to seeing Rana Walker go.
I think Rhonda's way, way off-task in terms of the life-coaching. She brings the drama, and that's unfortunately, part of the show -- probably more so than any of the "supporting one another" or "achieving our goals" stuff. In my opinion, Rana and Iyanla have been much better about balancing the coaching with the entertainment. They haven't been perfect, but Rhonda seems to go for the dramatic, the confrontational, the overplayed emotional stuff much quicker than she delves into her life coach bag o' tricks.

I think all three of them (IV, Rhonda, Rana... and Dr Stan) are all awesome individuals and hope they all return for the next season!
I also think they should put this show on at night, I think they would get good ratings. Even if they put it on between 7 and 8 pm instead of stupid game shows like Wheel of Fortune I think they would get strong viewership.
I would really hate to see this show go off of the air. It is probably the most helpful show on TV these days... we all get so much out of watching it.
Just my two cents.

I can't say my source, but it's from a hg of last yr.
She stated that Iyanla wanted out of her contract for this season, and the show would not let her.
So it sounds like the contract is only for two seasons.
She stated when probed that Rhonda and Iyanla did not get along at all. She had no doubts about that.
I've noticed we barely see Katz this yr, and instead way too much of Iyanla, so maybe she fought for more air time, since she couldn't get out of her contract. donno Do know she wanted out this yr but was bound by contract. In my view all she did last yr was look like a mad priestess, and this yr, she only does half the time. She does contradict herself every other statement and is either down to earth, or some off the wall theatrical PTL preacher.

Not trying to be mean here but your first post said you about this from another board and now from the radio.

Either way it doesn't suprise me that she is leaving. When Oprah tried to set her up with her own tv show, before setting up Dr. Phil, IV and Oprha had a major falling out.
Maybe Oprah knew then what we are just finding out....IV is a kook who needs her own LC to start over.

And I feel the same about Rhonda. I feel both need a major break from the show and for new LC's to enter the house.

Edited to add:
I wonder why Dr. Stan ever came back back in reading the other psots looks like it might ahve been a two year contract. I think he sn't shown much because He asked for that, not that IV wants more air time. I feel he knew last year he had made a mistake and is now trying to keep a low profile.

Oprah and Iyanla had the falling out because Iyanla took up an offer from Barbara Walters to host her own daytime show. Barbara wanted in on a peice of the talk show pie. So Barbara set up Iyanla and Iyanla was doing the talk show. Then Barbara wanted to start changing things about Iyanla; the way she looked, dressed, etc. One day Iyanla was in her dressing room dissing Barbara and Iyanla called her a B!tch. Iyanla still had her mic on and Barbara heard what she called her. Barbara let the show die and Iyanla's talk show left the air.
(Iyanla talks about this time in her book, yesterday I cried).
I like Iyanla as a LC, but I would imagine she could be a fire cracker to be around. I have the impression she doesn't take criticm from others with the same grace that she hands it out.

Starting Over wanted Iyanla for season one however her daughter was dying of cancer (she passed away in December of that year, near Christmas as I recall). Iyanla was taking care of her and did not have the time to do SO, that is why Rana was there.
As for not being back next season, I too have either heard or read it but for the life of me can't find where.
I hope she does not go, but she has so much in her life going on with her Inner Visions, motivational speaking, and being a life coach to those already through the SO house that I would imagine she has a very full plate.
I would think Rhonda would be the same, so pressed for time. It would be hard for me to think of SO without those two LC's in there. I think they do a tremendous job. I can only imagine the huge chunk of time and mental investment it takes to be a LC to these women.

I know that Iyanla's daughter died but where did you get the information that they wanted Iyanla for season 1? I read online that Rana did not return becuase she was dismissed for becoming too emotionally involved when Josie left The S.O. house for Jonothan and was unable to relocate to the west coast for season 2.

I imagine that Iyanla stays. It was verified that she was not there first season becasue of her daughter. She adds something to the show that makes it watchable. I will say that I have been watching reruns of season one and to compare Iyanla and Rana hads down Iyanla is the better life coach. I can not believe some of the stuff Rana did.
If she does not return I can not imagine the show would be as effective.

I did a Learning Annex course with her in the Summer and she said that this was her last season. When asked why, she said "it's not my show". She runs a women's course in the midwest (or somewhere between NY and CA) and keeps very active furthering her passion. She makes a huge difference in people's lives. I will miss her.

Now that makes more sense.....course she is right, it isn't her show, it's good ole Rhonda's.
Rhonda had, maybe still does, a show call Help Me, Rhonda in England and that is what Starting Ovee is based on.

I don't know about her returning, but it was stated on the SO home page (and now I can't find it) that for her to stay for this season which was mandated by her contract, the SO producers neogiated with her - something on the website said "we told her what we needed and she told us what she needed" - actually didn't sound like they were nice about it. :0
For me personally, I think IV is best as a motivational speaker. The segments of the show where she talks in the confessional are very insightful. She really knows what these women's problems are -- her weakness though is working with the same woman for months at a time... to me it's clear she gets bored with their problems and just wants to b*tch slap them!

I knew Iyanla's daughter had passed away as a result of cancer, but I can't remember anything other than Iyanla saying that she zipped the body bag (as a mother, that absolutely broke my heart).
I was under the impression that this had happened years ago, not less than two years ago. That woman, God bless her, is still grieving.
Things are making more sense to me now.

Iyanla had a baby that was placed in foster care and died while in foster care. That was her first baby and I beleive a baby boy. Then she had three other children, 2 girls and a boy.
Her daughter that passed away several years ago was in her early thirties and had at least one child of her own, possibly more.
Iyanla tells all about her life in her book, 'Yesterday I Cried', and it is a very powerful book. She lived through some things that would have killed a lesser person. If you get a chance read it, you won't want to put it down.

Does she tell of her long time affair wih a married guy in this book of her life story? (She does go on to marry him years later-tis her present hubby).
Just curious if she tells all or only the parts that would pull in the sympathy from its readers.

It sems both Rhonda and IV are *selective* about their lfe story, only telling the parts that would make them look ike victims.

Yes she details it all.....as she might say warts and all. She speaks of her affair with the married man and their eventual marriage. Her abusive marriage. Her molestation. Her children and her sons drug abuse.
I found this book to be very riveting. To see where Iyanla (originally named Rhonda) started life and to see where she is today should make anyone realize they can acheive their dream.
Her life certainly was not peaches and cream, and while I have lived through some horrific stuff in my life she has me beat hands down. I found her book very inspiring.

Iyanla seems to have a very strong personality. You either figure out how to get along with her or your never going to like her. She doesnt seem like the type of person whos gonna change herself for anyone.
Ive also read the book "Yesterday I cried" The things she went thru in her life. wow.. what a life. Maybe thats why she can see thru alot of the ladies? i dont know. I look at her diffrently now. There are some things she does, i dont get.. but somehow theres a message in all of them. They dont show them doing the whole excerise. they only show parts of it. all thanks to editing, they might feel if the excerise is taking to much time or they dont believe its going work out on the time they have, they may cut it all together. If we saw the entire thing unedited we may have diffrent opinions on the housemates. She and Rhonda must live close by or maybe they live in the guest house? maybe they are hiding in the house somewhere? maybe they are on speed dial? the hg seem to pick up the phone and somehow Ronda or Iyanla answers? do they tape their phone conversations too?
I also noticed one thing, at the end of the show during the credits, i noticed they had SCRIPT consultants? i thought this was supposed to be unscripted? i guess parts of it has to be planned, camera angles and lighting.. do they wear microphones or have them planted around the house? Sooo many questions lol
Anyway i have mixed feelings about this show. im curious about the show, its interesting to watch women from all walks of life living under one roof. part of me wants another season, but another part of me thinks this season should be written off as a big mess.. its like watching real World Sorority. ughhh
1/ keep the honesty and intergrity the house is meant to be. if the houseguests dont want to do the excerises.. give them the boot.. thats why season one was successful.
2/ Get people who really want to be in the house, please no more hollywood startlet wannabes.
3/ how about doing background checks? If the person has a problem Rhonda and Iyanla dont think they can handle or dont want to handle DONT CAST THEM! ( I.E. TJ/ Denise it was too obvious Ronda was very impatient with both of them)
4/ The variety of Ages were great. i like seeing somein their twenties.. i think its a good life lesson to live with other people in a house..
5/ How about calling the houseguests on what they did or said to to other houseguests? do they not watch dailies? ask them how thats gonna help them by backstabbing someone else?
I guess all these suggestions will be ignored by the producers after all they want DRAMA. for the ratings.. but First season was great. it was meaningful. All the women were real. There was someone there everyone could relate to. I loved Maureen and Lori. Maureen reminded me of a co worker i had. She was the funniest coolest co worker. she had a tough exterior, but she had a good heart deep down. Lori seemed like once she shed the geek image, she seemed really cool. id love to talk to her. to me she was someone that you could talk to and get the real truth. She really grew and blossomed. Cassie1 was just like me, a college student struggling to grow up, raising herself. I did NOT like Nyanza. ughh... Andy was alright. i dont remember the other lady..
Season 2? hmm BORING. until denise came on. lol Honestly she kept my interest.

Interesting that Towanda didn't seem to have an issue with IV being 'the other woman' like she did with Sommer. Maybe because Sommer wasn't a celeb. and Towanda was only there to further her career. She should have used some of her sister's money to do that instead of taking up precious space in the House.

I have to agree with alyse73.. that "how you be livin???" and "Miss" so-in-so drive me up the wall!!!! I am also getting sick of IV and Rhonda and their coaching strategies. Rhonda is too Hollywood and devoid of any emotions and IV obviously wants to be the star. It seemed like she made it her show last year and even more so this year. Just get rid of IV and Rhonda. If I don't hear, "how you be livin again," I will be a happy camper!!! I have an idea... BRING BACK RANA!!!

In your face therapy is not for everyone but for some people is very much needed so that they can be called on there false masks. IV has a style when partner with the right people can be a outstanding team of support. I am sure there are motives and decision which are kept off the show and there are sections of all our lives that are kept private and is none of anyone elses business. IV has done a wonderful job and if she does leave then I am sure who ever comes in will bring a new insight to the SO house. Embracing change in life could be a life skill that the house may need to be taught.

Well, maybe I am in the minority, but I would be happy if Ilanya did not return. Not that she doesn't have some positive things to offer, but I find her "tone" with the HG's infantalizing, I think she has so many of her own issues that get in the way of her life coaching effectively, and I find her dramatics and histrionics in a lifecoach relationship very over the top. I also think she is much more likely than Rhonda to try to play deep therapist, rather than lifecoach, without offering the follow-up, and the follow-through, and don't believe she has consistent skills in this area-only very specialized ones with certain issues and with certain clients. Her "yelling" at HG's disturbs me..and I don't care if you call it "tough love" ...whatever you call it it is not approrpriate in an enviroment where (if you believe that some of the HG's are somewhat fragile and in a phase where they are going through some regression before changes) healing suppossedly happening.
She has done some decent work, but I don't think she is the right person to be in the SO house, and is commanding far too much air time.....although none of the coaches seem to be around (at least from what we SEE) as much as last year.
Wish we had a LICENSED SW/Psychologist who also was certified as a life coach. They exist. Or just a different personality that WORKED

I like IV but not as an LC. She is much better at being a speaker, imho.
Her major mistake was hooking up with this show. I feel it has done her more harm than good. Will take her a bit to rebuild what repuatation she ahd before her error in judgment in being a part of the show.
She does seem to have a reputation of not allowing others to direct her. Oprah tried setting up a show for her as she did Dr. Phil, but IV wanted t all her way whereas Dr. Phil took direction.
Dr.Phil is now WELL known throughout and IV is still minimumly kknown and S.O. did not help her in her having the noterity she was hoping for..

I too am in the minority but I preferred Rana to IV. IV is too drama queen and not enough direct teaching at times for some of her assignments. I think she needs to come down to planet earth to reach some of these ladies who just don't make it out to her orbit to understand what it is she's trying to communicate to them about life.
I also think they need someone on board with some practical life skills training to work with the houseguests on SO with job skills and life skills they need to move on. Too many have left with visions and no way to get there.

I loved Rana, and still do. And I've grown to like IV. But if IV wants to move on, then she should go. The thing I liked about Rana was that she had compassion for her HG. IV does get tired of ehr HG problems-which I don't blame her. These women have been on thee for too long now, even the LC are getting tired of them!

Oh i loved Rana too. So much more realistic assignments. I dont think Alison or Lisa wouldve lasted very long with Rana. She wouldve called them out on their attiude. Rana had compassion when needed, but a no nonsense do it or else approach. She got Teresa on not putting stuff on ebay. she kept on her until she finally did it..
Rhonda just seems like shes tired of all of this. Maybe she will quit too? It feels more like shes babysitting a group of catty soroity girls instead of trying to help them. I have times when i just dont get Rhondas excerises ( Letting Lisa in jail with a laptop?) Letting Lisa sit there and act like she gets it, only to joke about it later? If Lisa was on first season, Im sure Lori would have her booted along time ago!
After reading Iyanla's story, i feel more empathy for her. She has been thru alot. none of her life was perfect, she made mistakes like we all do. Some of her excerises,some of them make sense, i guess its all based on perception.
I do hope that there is a season 4. I admit i enjoy watching the show. I miss TJ already !!!

Here is some interesting bits from the article about Allison. I think it explains why she cares so much about seeing Allison get healed, so that she can maybe feel her daughter's death wasn't in vain:

"She kept me spiritually connected and it has really given me power -- our bond is just very special." I stated this earlier and I realize that we know what we need to know and when it time to know more then it revealed in life and now reading that insert from the article it comes together like a puzzle why IV did some of the things with Allision and to viewers it seem she was favoring her .. she was as any one of us would do if we were the mother of someone with cancer.. doesn't mean it always healthy but I do believe we would all be incline.. Maybe we should get a therapist for IV to undo the attachement with Allision so they can finally get her off the show..

I guess my point is a professional would know enough to realize the conflict of interest and recluse themselves knowing they couldn't offer the client what was needed based on their own needs etc. IV shouldn't have been Allsion's coach because she wasn't really seeing Allison she was seeing her daughter and as a result missed out on really doing the work that needed to be done with her clients beyond and including Ms. Allison.

I definitely think Iyanla is experienced and gifted to be doing exactly what she is doing with starting over and inner visions, etc. I have watched the show from its birth. As far as Allison goes, many feel that Iyanla has babied her or become too involved. I just thought this was interesting because I never thought that Allison got any type of special treatment that took away from the quality of Iyanla's interactions with her other SO guests. I think that the show will lack or miss something essential if Iyanla does not return.

Alas, it is true...this is bad or good news depending on how you relate to IV.
Unlike Dr. Stan and Rhonda who both have 6 year contracts, Iyanla only signed a 2 year contract and has confirmed in several speaking engagements that she will not be returning next year.
Unlike some of the speculation that is out there, it has nothing to do with ratings.
Iyanla was an author, speaker, minister and teacher before and while she was with the show. The show which requires that she be away from home (on the east coast) for over half the year makes it very difficult to maintain these things.
This woman used to publish a book almost every year and hasn't written one in several years...my suspicion is that she'll probably lay low for awhile and do some writing. I also heard her mention while in Houston and at a recent appearance at Agape that she was going back to seminary.
If you love her, check out her website...she usually does 2-3 workshops per year.
If you don't...pray that the show comes back and/or that they get a good life coach to replace her.

uh, no thanks. I'll spend my prayer time on something a bit more worthwhile then Starting Over getting a Life Coach "as good" as IV.
So I guess that is why she could never work out a deal with Oprah that would have set her up for life - and why she couldn't get her other television show off the ground - and why she didn't do damn much for any of her clients this season on this lame show? Because she was too busy being a motivational speaker? Hmmmmm
A couple of points about IV - she makes a great motivational speaker but a really crappy Life Coach. We saw Allisham drinking like a fish, was told the b*tch couldn't graduate twice, and yet, she gets to graduate with a gold statute, new dress, and lots of parting gifts courtesy of SO.
IV's website, unless it has changed in the last 45 days holds enough information to fill a teaspoon. Rhonda's website is far more interesting and interactive. All IV's is, is a list of people in her organization.
She is unlicensed. One of her degrees is from the kooky University of Santa Monica New Age feel good take your money unaccredited (there's that word again!) university. And as anyone who has been at motivational sales meetings know - the motivational "speak" lasts about 30 days and then you are as pumped as a flat tire.
We've seen IV mock people in a manner that if her "profession" as a Life Coach was licensed wouldn't make for litigation. We saw her have a woman with a 40 pound tumor(s) lifting heavy luggage up and down stairs while she was climbing over an obstacle course. We've seen her baby a child-ho who is one of the greatest liars I've seen on television.
Excuse me if I don't blow a horn about our Life Coach Goddess, unless it's Taps - meaning she is gone.

Thank u MovingOnUp IV is the sh**!!! I hope to GOD she does not leave. She has changed my life!! I have read several of her books and she has gone through HELL!! Is it true that IV and Rhonda don't really get along? Hmmmmm that is interesting did not know that. I did not know alot of this info. Its a shame, she should be honored not dissed!! How can anyone put her down? She is a beautiful and spiritual person. If she does not return I know I will NOT BE WATCHING!! I like to watch both Rhonda and IV. I get my ##### up in the morning just to see the show and to see hr. She has done so much to help people, like myself. She is an excellent writer and speaker. I can listen to her speak all day long. If IV is out, all the better for the new SOH girls. At least Rana helped the girls get OUT of the house so they could conquer their fears and attempt to find gainful employment. Rana also worked on helping the girls with their lives after the SOH in terms of money and housing.
I am sooooo tired of IV milking the "SURRENDER" out of these women...holding them to her ample bosoms and cooing over them while they cry and cry.
Putting Lisa1 in a fetal position and rocking her back and forth was over the top.
What is IV doing to help these women make it outside of the house?
I miss Rana. The SO producers should bring her back.

From what I've heard I don't see Rana coming back but someone with her style of coaching would be helpful. I think we've had enough of crying to the Unviverse, it's just not listening.
These folks need practical solutions to turning there lives around and being abused by IV's mumbo jumbo priestess stuff just wasn't cutting it. These women didn't need dreams they needed someone to help them get their lives started over.

I don't care much for IV, her coaching style or the outlandish things she says and does. For example her fake fainting when Lisa2 was telling her story (how imature, mocking and unprofessional that was). Then we can't forget telling HG's to hold their arms up to the Universe and shout what they want in life and saying that because it was shouted to the Universe loud enough it will happen. If that's the case where the heck is the cure for cancer I shouted about months ago? I also shouted at the Universe ofr Lisa1 to be gone and she's still there. If I may borrow a quote from one of IV's pets... "love ya mean it buh bye!"
