"The night of zero."
Zero cakes sold for Matchstick, which has to be a franchise record -- no minicorp's ever been completely shut out before this.

Zero credibility left for Shawna, who used to spend her time bringing people the news. Kind of makes you wonder what network she used to work for, doesn't it? 'Fake it until you make it.' Presumably that refers to her official policy on lead stories.

And quite possibly a Nielsen rating of 0.0, because NBC, in its infinite wisdom, now has this thing running against original Lost episodes, and I only know a little about what happened 'cause I peeked during the commercials. (I don't know who was fired -- I switched back right after PM Idiot Of The Moment didn't bring Shawna in.) To pull out the paraphrase, expecting to solve the show's rating problems by putting it directly against Lost is something like trying to cure your multiple personality by putting a bullet through your temporal lobe, but if NBC wanted the all-time low record that badly...

1. "RE: The night of zero."
Me thinks NBC has decided Martha is a complete wash, and probably are very unconcerned about the ratings now. Anyway there was only good part of the episode, well two if you count Martha's overriding (sp?) of the PMs board room choices.

The person on Primarius who sold the first cake to that couple, I think my eyes got a little watery, my poor romantic heart.

She overrode the PM? Let me guess -- she hauled Shawna back in and fired her on the spot for letting her mouth write a check her baked goods couldn't cash?

Yep, Estee, that's pretty much what happened. George Charles called Shawn on her 'if we don't win you can fire me personally' comment. Martha had problems with Shawn's 'fake it until you make it' comment.

We've seen Donald fire people without a final boardroom, but as yet we haven't seen him haul their butts back to the boardroom after being sent to the apartment. Sa-weeeeet.

You are right. David is indeed a complete idiot. He's lucky that he's in Martha's Apprentice, and not Trump's Apprentice. Donald Trump always fire the PM who brings the wrong people into the boardroom. He hates it even more when candiates who makes stupid comments like Shawn did are not brought into the boardroom. Eventhough Shawn was a complete embarassment and she took no responsibility for her words, David should be fired last night for not bringing Shawn back in.

LAST EDITED ON 10-06-05 AT 02:13 PM (EST)

David had to be fired. Not that firing Shawn was a bad idea, but because, in Martha's opinion, David focused on the wrong problem: the design, not the marketing (which Martha thought was very poor) -- which is why David didn't bring Shawn or the other marketing people into the boardroom in the first place.

No wonder the ratings are tanking. Martha may be the "Queen of Mean," and she may be richer than Croesus, but she doesn't seem very bright.

5. "$10 per person??"
I have never heard of such price gouging! I live in Newport Beach, and paid $3 per person for a WONDERFUL cake.

They probably felt that since it was based on a ...Whatsherface design they could the price. Too bad they didn't try and use that as their selling point.

Kind of makes you wonder what network she used to work for, doesn't it?

I'm guessing either (a) an small, local, independent station in BFE, or (b) a Fox affiliate. Anyone want in on the odds of her getting any interview in a market larger than DMA 100?

I'll take you up on it.

I'll bet she's a good reporter. It's just a saying in that business. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with her ability to report on a story.

And guess what Martha: "It's not really a job interview---it's a TV show!"

11. "At dinner..."
I do remember one scene at the dinner that sticks out - the same guy that was all happy after he made the first cake sale (which seemed genuine to me) actually made a funny joke to Trump when The Donald asked the group, "Anyone want to work for me" all the ladies said "oh yeah" and he very nicely and very charmingly said "I'll have to hold off, I'm in the middle of a job interview right now but Thanks..."

I thought it was great witty comment. He stood out from the pack last night...but I still can't remember his name!

12. "Ratings"
I'd guess that NBC probably cares less that Martha's being pummeled by Lost and more that she's also being beaten by both Criminal Minds and Nanny 911. Since it's Martha and Burnett I doubt they will pull the plug on this thing, but don't expect a Martha 2.

14. "Do you have that dress in gravy brown please..."
Does anyone know why they refused to offer to change the colors on the cake? Was that in the rules? Did I miss something?

Almost always any accessory you have can be color coordinated?

Martha's cover cake this week had brown accents? What bride would choose brown as a color for her bridesmaids, cummerbunds, favors, flowers... etc?

Well to me, just the sour attiude of Shawna would turn me off. she sat there the whole time scowling and frowning. would you buy from someone who that attiude? i dont think so. and then her reaction to the cake... where was she helping make the cake? hmmm. so unless i missed something, she didnt have much room to complain about the cake..
