"This turned out to be a good show"
I'm kinda surprised at this show, at first I thought it was stupid, because basically their exploting people to these crazy diets and excersize, then of course a typical vote off.

But week after week, this show just seems to improve and we get original characters and quite good drama (realistic, not over acted).

I remember not liking Gary in the beginning, but recently I like him alot and he's my current fav I want to win. He seemed like such a jerk in the first few esp, but as his body improved, so did his attitude.

Overall this is a much better show then expected, I hope they can keep it up.

One thing though, Gary's wife was hot, how the hell did he get her. She had an amazing body and a great face (she older too, imagine 10 years ago). WOW.

Dave's wife was pretty hot also. Maybe these guys should give out dating advice.

I agree. I love this show and find it inspiring. After watching it last night, I have been motivated to stay away from the cookies and candy that tempt me at work today. Who knows how long it'll last, but for today, I've found it to be helpful.

And Dave's wife is indeed a BABE! The whole scene with him and his family was very moving. The difference in their appearances is phenomenal. I can't wait for next week's episode when they see cardboard cutouts of their former selves and have to workout with their lost weight attached.

Another Mon Cherie masterpiece!

I was thinking the same thing..... I was actually teary-eyed watching the last show. I really like the show and I hope it stays on....very inspiring.

I was surprised that Gary's wife was so youthful.....I figure he must have a great job ....... or something. But he looks pretty good now and he's my fav right now too. Mo kind of irritates me because he doesn't appear to be working hard. Unless he has a tyroid problem or something, he should have lost more weight by now...I think he's eating too much.

I'm liking this show more than I thought I would too. I especially like Bob the trainer. I think he really connects with the contestants.

I was worried about the people on this show, and what it would feel like to be exposed: literally, as when the men have to take off their shirts for weigh in (which now they seem not to have to do). I like the show; like the way people have bonded; hate to see them have to do the "survivor" thing. I also like that they're not cut-and-paste extreme makeovers but doing something human and real. They all look great and they've done it themselves, not through some fat-sucking machine and an overpriced doctor from an old twilight zone episode.

I wasn't sure how to feel about the cardboard cut-out moment; they all seemed devastated, humiliated, and defeated. But they came around. How about Gary running with Mo on that second lap? That was pretty touching.

Now I worry about what's going to happen to them all after the show. As for Mo, I think it's pretty hard for someone of his size to lose weight--it hurts to move; he obviously has knee and other kinds of injuries and probably injures himself every time he exercises. He's in a different weight category, so his struggles are different. It's actually easier for a guy like Gary to lose weight; he doesn't have so much to carry around or so many bad habits in the first place.

I had the same concerns about the show, but am so happy about how it turned out. It seems like the more sane, healthy version of "The Swan," where the women seem to turn into some sort of Stepford Wife version of themselves and then exclaim, "I don't even look like me!" Here, the contestents learn how to eat and exercise. Go figure.

But I do wish there was some way to let those voted off to stay -- maybe say they can't win the money, but have the option to stay and continue to work out. The interpersonal dynamic might be interesting, and I'd love to know who stays just for their health and who might want to leave if they can't get the money. It seems more ethical to allow them to continue to benefit from the program -- but what am I thinking? ethics in a reality tv show???

My only other peeve with the show involves all the games with food. I just keep thinking about the people in this country who don't have enough to eat and here's this sill food-wasting crap going on.

6. "Letting the losing losers win "
That's a great idea. I've been thinking the same thing, that it would be interesting to see who'd agree to stay on for the community, the training, the discipline. And your idea that it would sort out who's there for the money and who's now there to feel better about themselves (I love that Gary no longer has asthma, for example).

But to this idea I say: fat chance

Though how about the idea of an unreality show: one that has an ethical content. I guess maybe Extreme Makeover has a bit of that, linked powerfully to product-tie-ins.

As for the food games, I agree that they're obscene and somewhat insulting to us all (I feel embarrassed by the food games almost as much as I did by the cutout figures). But do you know where to find the most obscene, most ungodly food games? Fear Factor. That show is an embarrassment to our country, whether it's people eating live bugs for no reason, or, what, slaughtering animals, or eating rotting fish heads and bull testacles, as one might in a prison camp or other desperate circumstances--but put before us as entertainment. We're not too far any more from Paddy Chayevsky's "Network."

7. "Bob the Trainer"
LAST EDITED ON 12-19-04 AT 06:20 PM (EST)

Sorry--messed up the subject line, but I was surprised to read blackandwhite liked Bob the Trainer. His team was like an Agatha Christie novel; one after the next vanished and meanwhile he stayed crunchy touchy feely: like a camp counselor goody-two-shoes, all worried about how to say goodbye to people rather than maybe figuring out a way to get them to lose more weight. The other trainer busts 'em, and it works. Plus her muscles are bigger

8. "RE: Bob the Trainer"
That's also what's good about this show also. Is the Trainers even they interest me. Jullian the girl trainer, she looked like such a hard nasty trainer in the beginning, but she actually very kind and caring.

Bob the trainer is interesting, at first he's seems like a yoga easy going fellow, but has times where he's a pretty fierce emotional guy.

Overall both trainer methods have pretty much equal results and in the end both of the trainers have seem to pretty much take the same path. Even though in the beginning of the show their methods seemed completly different.

I don't think anyone won yet, just a gloriously inane recap and then, well, nothing. Last I saw, Lisa went home, a little less bitter and a little more thinner: leaving us with the perhaps ineffable question: which did she lose more of, fat or bile?)

*********************
a couple problems with the above, on reflection: one is that there is a Parenthesis Without a Partner (please bear with me; I'm working through punctuation issues). The second is that questions cannot be ineffable. Well, perhaps they can: I dunno. I will leave that to the cognoscenti (brain smellers; without whom there could be no brain farts: or could there? dunno).
