"The Shadow of the Statue"
Agree that Richard Alpert is Ra. But then, who knows with this show?

So the statue . . . Also agree that it's a code. But, what is in its shadow? The statue, assuming the foot belongs to Anubis, is on the coast. And assuming it's facing either east or west, its shadow hits the sea and whatever is in the jungle behind it. We know the Well with the Wheel is directly behind the statue (though a bit of a distance), thus, at least once a day it's in the shadow of the statue.

"RE: Some Like It Hoth"

Interesting title, "Some Like it Hoth." Could they have planted a clue in the name? "Some like iT HOTH." Thoth was an Egyptian god. Look it up.
While we're all thinking about Star Wars, they're planting an Egyptian god's name in the title.

His roles in Egyptian mythology were many. Thoth served as a mediating power, especially between good and evil, making sure neither had a decisive victory over the other. He also served as scribe of the gods, credited with the invention of writing and alphabets (ie. hieroglyphs) themselves. In the underworld, Duat, he appeared as an ape, A'an, the god of equilibrium, who reported when the scales weighing the deceased's heart against the feather, representing the principle of Ma'at, was exactly even.

The ancient Egyptians regarded Thoth as One, self-begotten, and self-produced. He was the master of both physical and moral (ie. Divine) law, making proper use of Ma'at. He is credited with making the calculations for the establishment of the heavens, stars, Earth, and everything in them. Compare this to how his feminine counterpart, Ma'at was the force which maintained the Universe. He is said to direct the motions of the heavenly bodies. Without his words, the Egyptians believed, the gods would not exist. His power was almost unlimited in the Underworld and rivaled that of Ra and Osiris.

The Egyptians credited him as the author of all works of science, religion, philosophy, and magic. The Greeks further declared him the inventor of astronomy, astrology, the science of numbers, mathematics, geometry, land surveying, medicine, botany, theology, civilized government, the alphabet, reading, writing, and oratory. They further claimed he was the true author of every work of every branch of knowledge, human and divine.

3. "Anubis"
The front of the statue is most likely the jackal-headed Anubis (like in the drawing above the vents shown in "Dead is Dead") who is associated with the afterlife and god of the dead: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis

LAST EDITED ON 05-04-09 AT 05:14 PM (EST)

It is rumored that we will see the front of the statue during the finale and that it might be Taweret - the goddess of motherhood!

Taweret became seen, very early in Egyptian history, as a deity of protection in pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnant women wore amulets with her name or likeness to protect their pregnancies.

9. "Reposted "
I posted this in "the Incident" thread; this seems like a good place to repost it.

That statue is definitely Sobek.

(mind his headgear in this picture; that's actually Amun's crown)

From the Wikipedia entry: Sobek's ambiguous nature led some Egyptians to believe that he was a repairer of evil that had been done, rather than a force for good in itself, for example, going to Duat to restore damage done to the dead as a result of their form of death. He was also said to call on suitable gods and goddesses required for protecting people in situation, effectively having a more distant role, nudging things along, rather than taking an active part.

Iiiinteresting.

NAMASTE!
