I don't know of any state in the US where you are REQUIRED to have a license to have a dog. The major city where I live wants people to get their dog licensed, but most do not.

You're lucky the vegans you know don't try to convert you. I have many vegan acquaintances, because of the work I do in animal rescue. And I have to say, there is only ONE of them who I am close friends with, because she is the ONLY one who never tries to lecture me or convert me, and I could sit at a table with her and eat what I want, and she would never make me feel uncomfortable about my choices. I do find all the other vegans that I have come in contact with to be INCREDIBLY dictatorial and rude -- just like former smokers who become anti smokers. They cannot stop telling people how to live their lives -- and the more they tell me NOT to do something, the more I do it! About Barbara Gates saying she went to parenting classes -- I agree with others who say she was abusive to the kids -- It crossed my mind...People normally go to parenting classes because they are FORCED to go by authorities, don't they? I never heard of any normal person deciding to send themselves to parenting classes.

As someone aptly pointed out already, I think that people who pontificate about personal lifestyle choices are really insecure about their own choices, and need to constantly reinforce them via others. As a vegan, myself, I have never counselled anyone to become a vegetarian. In fact, I routinely tell people NOT to become "vegetarians", but rather opt for non-meat options, one meal at a time. (But only if they begin the conversation themselves.) That way, they haven't labelled themselves, and are free to choose foods with animal products in them whenever they want. Each time someone chooses not to use an animal product, they're ever-so-slightly reducing the demand for those products. Even just a small decrease in demand might put an end to factory farms...one of the biggest contributors to animal cruelty. I hate that there are bad apples in any bunch. But, alas, that is human nature. There are vegans who are jerks. There are evil men. There are fanatical religious nuts. And there are irresponsible dog owners. Most of these losers are a small percentage of the larger group, but their actions tend to make life very difficult for the majority who are completely innocent.

Unfortunately those fanatics you speak about are the most fun and controversal to watch when put on reality shows! Alas, what would we have to talk about here if they didn't exist! Can they get more fanatical than that? I guess we'll wait for next week.

If everyone in California is anything like Vegan mom , then it is time for them to cut off from the United States and become their own country. She thinks her way of living should be everyones way. Can tell she only likes to be right. She would never be able to take an critizism. Only give it. All people in La, do not have that strong of an accent, but that accent is brought down from many generations. It is unique to living along the bayou. And any real cajun will invite you in , feed you and make you feel at home. As far as having people come early to VEGAN moms SHOWING of her film. Cajun friends come over early to see if they can help out. Friends are always welcome, not just at certain set times. What a shame that vegan mom did nothing to enjoy a different culture and Cajun mom respected her wishes in her house. Shows who is the better person. AND SHE CRIED, because her husband could plant his orchard. Won't that help to feed them their PURE foods? What a selfish be otch. I feel for her children. SHe has no respect for them. When the daughter tried talking, she was told to shut up. Instead of asking the child to wait. SHe is all about herself. And no respect for anyone else. That husband is henpecked and needs to run as soon as he can. Please, take the children, they will end up really warped and hate her by the time they grow up. I see fear in their faces at the thought of her coming home. SHe lives MAD. Diego may have long hair, but he is not stepped on. And more manly than CA. hubby. He is a pure wimp!

52. "RE: Trading Spouses - 29 November" |
Never been here before but I just HAD to vent!Tonight's episode of Trading Spouses made me so angry. ...Well, it also made me laugh out loud. You see, I am a vegan. But my husband and pets are not. Ergo, I don't preach about being vegan or try to "convert" anyone. It has always been a personal choice for ME...and ME alone. I was sooooo happy when Fox finished the segment where the woman was attempting to "educate" everyone about animal rights, by replaying her abusing that poor, innocent dog. What a complete loser. I almost jumped through the television as I watched her abuse that dog!!! Where is the freaking S.P.C.A? Are they going to charge her with animal cruelty? She HIT that dog on camera!!! There's no denying it!!! What about the poor dog crying??? What does it take to get criminals arrested, anyway? Does the dog have to be scarred for life? As a vegan, myself, I can say that I never harm living creatures, if at all possible. (I'm sure I've stepped on a few ants, but there's only so much each one of us can do. The analogy I like to use is this: It's like the difference between driving down the street and accidentally hitting someone, despite all your efforts to avoid it; and intentionally running down innocent pedestrians.) I've been training dogs for almost 30 years and have never had to make a dog feel afraid in order to be successful in making them into near-perfect canine citizens. I would never yell at a dog, much less commit the horrible atrocities I witnessed tonight. ...And for that woman to label herself a "vegan" just goes to show that we live our lives more in our heads, than in the real world. As always, actions speak louder than words. We can all claim we are this or that, but our actions define who we REALLY are. Personally, I have NEVER started a conversation about being vegan. Ever. In fact, I was just cautioning my husband earlier this evening (...he's slowly coming around to veganism and, as such, is a bit more militant than those of us who've been 'on the wagon' a bit longer - You know...there's no passion like that of the converted...) about loaning one of my animal welfare documentaries to people. I told him to make sure they "ask" for it. It's just not fair to inflict that kind of stuff on people, without their informed consent. I believe that when individuals are ready to learn more about veganism, they will seek out that information, themselves. You never get anywhere by bludgeoning people with your own pious (and in this case, misguided) views. This woman really needs a serious reality check. I'm sure the vegan community is willing to provide that to her...animal abuser that she is. Hopefully, just seeing herself and all her hypocrisy on national television will instill some humility in her. The family from the bayou really came off smelling like roses in that one. Vegan or meat-eater, I'd rather stay with them than that egotistical, fake-vegan I watched tonight. Jorie

I am a vegetarian married to a carnivore. I have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years and I would never think to impose my life choice on anyone. Most vegetarians appreciate life and wouldn't dream of putting anyone else's lifestyle down, regardless of how they felt about it. With the vegan mom it's about control and feeling superior it has nothing to do with animals. The Cajun Mom was very thoughtful and considerate towards the differences her life and that of the vegan family. Because of it she probably got the most from the experience. She learned about a different culture and went home appreciating her's even more.

I just joined this forum and I must admit you guys are taking it better than me. When I saw how she treated her family at the end I wanted to throw up. I feel sorry for them, including the husband. I may be overreacting but I think the whole family we be better off mentally without her. I wonder if she even realizes what a terrible human being she is?. One thing I found ironic about the friends and relatives of the vegans is that they treat animals better than they treat their loved ones.

Well, that surely was as interesting episode. That CA vegan putz has no manners, no class and NO INTELLIGENCE! She made no effort (other than the alligator meat thingy) to experience Southern Hospitality and culture, especially Cajun Culture. She must have one of them Californee palm trees up her a$$. Sorry to vent, but her obnoxious, rude self-centered diatribes made me want to upchuck. I couldn't honestly believe how closed-minded she was, not to mention those so-called friends of hers. Cajun was truly a Southern belle. I have met Cajuns before (both American and the original Cajuns - the Acadians) and they have warmth, openness and charm. Of course they are also tight-knit folk (not unlike folks from Maine). And I thought CA was known for it's open-mindedness and tolerance. If Vegan hag is representative of CA, I think I'll stay South, thank you very much!

ITA with you that palm tree up her butt must be uncomfortable for her to behave so badly! The cajun lady opened herself up and gave her best to the experience but the vegan was obnoxious, she never stopped running her mouth about her beliefs, she didn't care about anything else. I felt sorry for her children they aren't treated very well and seemed frightened of her! Of course the cajun boy needed discipline but for her to start in on his mother with her list was out there, who does she think she is? I hope the vegans watch this show and change because of it they need to lighten up, as for the cajun woman she will see herself as an open minded kind woman that she is.

hehehe...Luckily for us vegans, this idiot isn't actually one of "us". She's sort of like the pseudo-animal rights losers who wear leather, eat fish, abuse their dogs... ...oh wait... Losers like her. She's fake. She's a hypocrite. If just calling yourself a vegan makes you a vegan, then we can all be vegans then, huh? That's not to say that all vegans are into animal welfare. I know a man who cannot digest animal proteins very well, so he's forced to eat vegan. (In his case, it also happens that he is very concerned about the welfare of living beings, too.) Thoughtful and respectful vegans don't harm other living creatures (physically or emotionally) whenever possible. That includes the two-legged variety. (grinning) This woman is just a selfish jerk. For some reason, she's latched onto veganism to make herself feel "better" than others. Eventually, she'll probably turn to something else because that alligator apparently tasted 'oh so good.'

There are NOT enough PG-13 words I could use to describe this VEGAN BEYATCH. I am only half way through this fiasco and I want to push her in a gator pond! What a nasty piece of work she and her family are. The constant use of WE by the Vegan family makes me wonder if in fact the lack of protein has caused them to have some type of mind meld where they possess only ONE brain! Clearly no one in the family has an original or independant thought. And thought would be part of the word THOUGHTful and there is more thoughtLESS about that family. While SwampDaddy may not be the smartest animal in the swamp he is a kind soul. His son is a character but hardly one deserving of the treatment by that lunatic. And he has more sense than she on any day of the week. Why I don't support eating animals that eat flesh... the root of Mad Cow was in the fact that cows were eating feed made of cows - I suspect somebody fertilized Vegan Beyatch's veggies with the feed as clearly she is suffering from MAD COW. "I am very smart... "monkies" not "monkeys" "burgers give you cancer" but smoking and drinking beer, not so much apparently. "I love animals" but spanking and hurting and later if necessary eating dogs okay. The woman is a loon and at this point wins the award of freak of the decade!

I completely agree. The Cajun woman is the only Mom I have seen on this show with any manners or respect for others. This woman took the time and energy to pack items that represented her culture which was very thoughtful and classy regardless of what the items were. A gracious recipient would accept the gift because it is about the thought and not the actual gift. The vegan children accepted the heads even though they didn't like them and the adults got all indignant about them. The Vegan mother brought nothing but her snotty attitude and bad spelling.

Ouch! This was a painful episode. Kids are my passion. They always have been, and this episode tore me up. While I felt sorry for ZZ, he will survive surrounded as he is by a supporting family. The vegan kids however, their treatment almost brought me to tears, and I never get involved in reality tv. I can only pray that the vegan mom will see this and see she needs help. And that the dad will develope some backbone.Like I said before I am mostly vegan. It is not an animal rights thing for me just what my taste preferences are. To eat you kill something, it is just rather you feel better about killing animals or plants. Personally, I think we would be in trouble if the whole planet turned vegan. My husband is not vegan. In fact, it is a struggle to get him to eat a couple a day. My children are not either though they eat vegan for breakfast and lunch. I feel like it is a good balance. You really have to be careful having a total vegan lifestyle with kids. You really have to be committed to making sure they get all the required nutrients. I researched it throughly when they turned two and started regular food. I admire the parents who are committed to it, but I met many a child in the hospital who was not getting his nutritional needs met. You have to really plan their meals carefully. The vegan mom would not approve of the parties we throw and attend either. We always arrive early and have people arrive early especially family. Its like yeah party time lets get started as soon as possible. At least I found out the proper way to spell monkeies. Yikes I have spelled it wrong my entire life.

The vegan woman is a selfish b*****. She is also a hypicrit(SP). She talked about how eating meat and it being cancerous and not healthy than right after saying that she goes out and smokes a ciggerett. Can you be anymore hypocytical? Also i couldnt believe at how selfish she is i dont get why her husband ever married her but im sure he had his reasons besides her selfish behavior. i couldnt believe that she didn't give her husband any of the 20 thousand that she got how rude and also how mean. I mean hell hes her husband not some stranger. I also didnt like it when she took the cajan family dog and first smacked it than held its neck down in the pee three different times that just pissed me off. Did she really need to hold its neck down three times And smack the dog? I think that she crossed the line with that. I would of liked it better if she would of hit the kid instead of the dog cuz the kid deserved it more than the dog did. Also just to clarify when i say hit i dont mean slap the crap out of the kid all i mean is just hit him on his butt once like she did with their dog. Also she talked about not eating meat and then she went and ate some crocidile meat. Than when her family asked her how it was she lied to them and told them that it was salty and tasted like crap instead of telling them that she liked it unless she really didnt like it. Anyways shes a selfish b**** and a hypocrite.

I'm not pretending to be a doctor but I've wondered with a couple of the people on these shows whether they have substance abuse issues in their regular lives. CA mom was so I extreme that I finally have to say it out loud. Do they leave their "mother's little helpers" home so that we see a person in withdrawal or do they double up on it while they're away for a week and we witness them higher than a kite? I know it's possible that they really act like they are without drugs or alcohol but I wonder.....

For a brief period I lived in Berkeley California, which is often called Bezerkley for a reason.I ment many people like this and you do when they have an agenda that they have adopted which empowers them to dominate and control every situation - as if they have been chosen to educate the world on their lifestyle choice. Its an almost evangelical attitude I have always come to believe that anyone who feels the need to proselytize about their life is someone actually unsure about it - so by constantly preaching and scolding others into submission or compliance is a way of validating one's own choice. Its rooted in insecurity. VB is a control freak. Her children and husband are so submissive, there is no conflict or challenge to her because she turns into this crying mess of a woman who uses her tears and rants to manipulate them into compliance. She hadn't even finished the letter before launching into a tirade, yet it was her that instructed them all to shut up and have no tears. But who was it that violated that instruction from the get go? If you stopped VB on the street and informed her of what you saw and told her that you found her hypocritical, even documenting said instances, she would DENY and argue with you until you just gave up.. like her family. I meet these people all the time in the Bay area and it becomes pointless as they have created a bubble around themselves which masks as "lifestyle" choices... which of course are superior and better than yours. I highly doubt she is on drugs or booze. She is just a screwed up media whore who like those before her think she KNOWS more than anyone else and wants to get on TV to share her wisdom. That said, Alex Bell of Survivor.. now he was a speed freak.

You are right on the money. I usually don't watch these 'reality shows' but started watching this one and while I'm sure there are some very nice, 'normal', well-adjusted people in California, unfortunately, she sums up what most of us think of typical Californian's. What a sanctimonious, self-righteous, self-absorbed, ignorant lunatic from the fringe she is! And her poor children have to endure her ranting's. She didn't even seem to get it when the Cajun family didn't even tell her goodbye. She saw it as a poor reflection on them instead of that it was a reflection on her sanctimonious attitude toward them. What a nut. I hope she is reading some of these forums so that she might wake up to reality. And the nerve telling that warm, nice Cajun mother that she never heard ZZ laugh--he was in tears over this nut job in his home. And Barbara's husband--is his name Spineless or what???!!! But you're right--sadly, she is right and all the rest of the world is in desparate need of reformation to her 'lifestyle' and outlook.

OMG, I hope that animal welfare and child welfare track this VB down and haul her out of her self-governed castle. She is probably the most hypocritical and abusive B*tch I have EVER seen on reality TV - and I've put some time in!I felt sick when I saw her smack the dog - and roar at her little daughter. What the %&*+ is her husband doing with her??? Doesn't he know that: a. she's a tyrannical b*tch whose kids are afraid of her b. he could do a whole lot better! Diana was a sweet truly maternal person and while Diego may not appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed, he certainly had the smarts to comfort and protect ZZ. Had to vent thanks!!!!!!

The dinner conversation was so funny. First off, Barb was trying to whore all the attention with her "will I/won't I" eat the alligator meat. She's an adult for goodness sakes, eat it or don't eat it, but don't make everyone suffer with your "look at me eating meat" performance. But the best came when ZZ answered her question about eating the neigborhood dog. He put her in her place with the comment about not willing to eat a dog because a dog is "man's best friend". I mean really, eat the neighbor dog, some set of vegan values this woman has. Hey, I think I just came up with a new word for arrogent, hypocritical vegans. "Convegans" Convenient to be vegan when it is fashionable, but can't hold on to those values when it becomes too difficult (or in Barb's case, when a real tasty piece of alligator meat passes under your nose).

Well VB wouldn't know when to shut her mouth. EVER. You notice she is always eating and droning on how "good it is" she can't even eat normally without some type of dialogue going on.She is clearly disturbed and hardly the spokesperson for endorsing a vegan lifestyle unless its one where apparently lack of animal protein turns you INSANE. VB is a woman who always needs attention, the last word, the last chew the LAST! God knows what it was like filming her over the week. What galled me even more was her unnecessary wardrobe commentary on SwampMama. Animal prints apparently also a big no no in the vegan world, yet all the rage on the catwalk. Apparently "Vegan Vogue" was not featuring that. Yet having an 80's style perm, cropped pants and VINYL shoes.. nothing says fashion forward more! Then she couples it with a second letter - because the first and only one was apparently not enough to get her hateful bile out. I was suprised they read it all. I would have wrapped it around a chicken carcass and fed it to the alligator - followed by one of the VB's dogs.. since they are GOOD EATIN!!! I wish I had been with the Cajun family I would have asked for an aligator carcass myself - because nothing says fashion forward more than matching shoes and bag!
