LAST EDITED ON 09-21-11 AT 04:15 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 09-21-11 AT 04:14 PM (EST) I thought it might be fun to continue this with some discussion of the various competitions. What were your strategies for each comp. Did you play it to win? or did you throw it? Did you discuss your results with other hamsters? or discuss strategy? Do you remember the answer you submitted for each one? I'm not sure I do! Maybe Zenbot can be coaxed into another appearance (& no, we have nothing in the budget to pay you with) and tell us who guessed submitted what answers. I realize all hamsters didn't get to compete in every competition. But maybe you tried anyway? I know when I was HoH, the Bot wouldn't let me play in the Veto comp; I sent him an answer just for the heck of it. So tell us if you played along for fun while you were in Sequesterville House; or how you might have gone about the competition. I'll make a new subject line for each week so we can discuss each separately. Showin off my win! Thanks Cahaya-wonderful game!
One more edit: If this is not a great way to up my DAW count and show off my winning wiggy, I don't know what is!

I found a jelly bean counting contest online with the answer buried in a forum thread. I just hoped nobody would go looking for it. This one is pure skill, no luck involved, although it calls for making a good guess-timate.

A simple see the number clues from two sources and then come up with the answer through a formula. Given my penchant for math problems, it's likely I would have figured this one out, although I didn't expect very many people to solve it.

Simple? Simple?I found a formula but logic told me the video one was way too fast and was not the answer and the other one where it was a simulation did not seem to be the right one either. So what if it were a trick? Not everyone is comfortable with formulas, so maybe Zenbot would not have a comp that really needed a formula to solve it. Kris had asked me to help her stay safe week 1 so I asked her what she thought. And she told me to look at the picture really closely and decided that the stuffed hamster was a clue--it can not run! So contrary to Michel's assertions, I did not throw this comp. I was not into the formula approach and had been tricked by a Tribe comp in the past. This felt like a Tribe comp. So "0" was my answer. I even pm'd Zenbot and tried to find out if we were supposed to imagine the stuffed hamster were real. He said he could. He did not say we were supposed to. (Thanks a lot, Zenbot!) If he had I would have used the formula.

This one seemed like it needed an approach of half of the hamsters would guess high and half would guess low. I was going to guess low.So this time I checked in with Corvis. He said he was going to guess high, to try to raise the average answer. I decided to go high as well and raise the average even higher. More people guessed high than I thought would guess high! LOL. But, I did not try to throw it. Let me guess who did. Hmmmmm.

LAST EDITED ON 09-21-11 AT 09:17 PM (EST)The bus driver needs your help. So, here's your chance to win the HoH competition by finding the shortest route from the Hamster House to all of the other places on the map of Hamsterville and then back to the Hamster House, where we start and end. Simple as that, yeah? And get a hold of your wheels... there's a twist! In two of the ten places we visit, not counting the Hamster House and Sequester Mansion, there is a key with your name on it for you to find. One key is the Golden Key and the other key is the Fool's Golden Key. The Golden Key grants you total immunity from being nominated for eviction this week. The Fool's Golden Key prevents you from playing in the Power of Veto competition later this week. Zazzy wins. http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID7/1602.shtml#74 Showin off my win! I loved this one. I just didn't make it quite hard enough. It's the classic "traveling salesman problem", although usually with more cities on the map. I should have added about another dozen locations. Adding just one city doubles the difficulty, and with 24 locations, it would have been almost impossible to know if you picked the shortest route or not. I liked the Golden / Fools Golden Key twist to go along with this one.

That's really too bad that you didn't trust someone totally. I mean, I get that it's a game and you should never trust anyone in a game (except Jorff or Brenchel for obvious lovey-dovey reasons). And maybe trust isn't the right word, but it still fits. In my case with you michael, I had FAITH in you and our alliance. (really, i guess the word "trust" is interchangeable in this instance). My complete and total trust in you and our alliance was most likely my downfall, but that's just who I am, normally anyway (to my honey's dismay). And again, since this is an online game instead of one where we can see each other, it's really hard to know whether or not to trust someone completely. But I guess for me, it wasn't a matter of whether or not I could see you. It was just a feeling I had based on our "conversations" both during the game and through other boards. I am probably not making any sense, so i better just get done with this. NEED MORE COFFEE!

Kriss, the first time I played an on-line game, I made sure that I read every line of the winner's confessional, his game agenda, to understand what it had taken to win. My reaction was to write him something like "Congratulations on your win but I don't know if I'd ever want to be that paranoid." Later, I understood that the real game is inside our head. The real fun is in the paranoia, handling it, using it, controlling it. If everyone was friendly, it wouldn't be the game anymore because, no matter our level of paranoia, it must be a million times worse when you are playing for real. But thank you for trusting me. It shows that my social game was good despite some claims to the contrary. Corvis, in this game, you can't trust anyone 100%. Even Romber didn't trust each other completely until the very end. You seem to have reacted as if you were Britney and you had just learned that I was the Brigade all rolled up into one! A long time fan should know that there are schemers in these games. And your problem wasn't that you trusted me, or that I trusted you, it was that you trusted someone that I didn't and I was very clear to you about how I felt. If I had not known you from before the game, you wouldn't have had that warning. As it was, I knew I could go to the end with you up until your HoH but when you showed me how strong your alliance with Zazzy was, you two had to be broken up. That is simple game logic. >no one trusted you >(or those who did >got backstabbed). Wrong. Only two didn't trust me: Dear Abby and Zazzy. I eliminated them. Jbug, Suzzee, Kriss and you trusted me. Of those, you were the only one I backstabbed. And, in reality, I frontstabbed you!

LOL, I had no idea Michel was going around giving everyone but me the answer! And then Corvis skips this entirely! What? I felt fairly certain the answer was 66, and that's what I submitted. I also decided that several people would submit 66 but not everyone would go for both keys. So, I decided to go all in and try for both keys. I think I even pm'd that to Michel, that I would not want to lose this one by not trying for the keys! So much for sharing strategy with him, lol. So, I took both keys and thinking of Wayne being booted first was behind one of my choices, and his name was one of the out of the way names. I forget if I chose my own name for the second choice. In any event, my strategy/choices worked! So some luck involved, but you had to have the route right in order to be part of the luck portion of the comp.

Two of you chose the correct strategy of going all of the rounds except the last one. There's a statistically derived payoff table for going each round, and the last one round leads to a decrease in payoff based on the odds. I worked out the optimum strategy before posting, so this problem worked out nicely.

LAST EDITED ON 09-22-11 AT 10:55 AM (EST)Interesting that there was a correct strategy of not going for the last round. Hmmm, a lot of reliance on formula/statistics so far, Zenbot. That seems sorta skewed! I was not eligible to play this because I won the Fool's key. I probably would have gone all three rounds and relied on some Irish luck to carry me through. It seemed like this was one where luck was with you or it was not.

Yeah! I played that one with Corvis since I wanted him and Zazzy to think we were together. I convinced Corvis that the best strategy was for one of us to play 2 rounds, the other 3 and to pick different doors. I told him I'd go 3 rounds so he should go two. My calculations told me the winner was most likely going to hit on 3 rounds and I'm glad Cahaya confirmed my estimations. I didn't win but I had most likely won points with both.

LAST EDITED ON 09-21-11 AT 09:19 PM (EST)All you have to do is find as many words as you can from the letters in: HAMSTER HOUSE. All words must be 8 letters or more and plural words are allowed. Proper names, place names, hyphenated words, acronyms and other non-words are not allowed. The only online source that you are allowed to use is to verify that your words exist in this dictionary. You get 1 point for each 8 letter word, 2 points for each 9 letter word, 3 points for each 10 letter word and so on. If you list a word that does not exist in the dictionary above, you will be penalized -1 point. Plurals to words (usually with an 's' at the end) are allowed even though plurals are not listed separately in the dictionary. After I posted this, I found a site that would come with these words for you. Even though the rules said that the only allowable online resource was the dictionary, there was no way to enforce it. Here's where I have to place some trust in the players. I doubt, though, we'll do another one of these.

Even though I did not play this one, I read your line differently:you wrote: "The only online source that you are allowed to use is to verify that your words exist in this dictionary." I read that as "use to verify" as in don't make up words and submit them...be sure all your words are in this source before submitting them. I did not get that someone could not search for words.

Finally! An HOH comp I have a chance at winning. So i'm working hard on this one. Then Zaz, who can't play, tells me she came up with a word and forwards it to me. Great that brings my total to 7. Then michael pm's me and he's got something like 16, he tells me. He also mentions french makes it harder. So I tell him maybe some of his french words will get him more answers and I only have 7. SO, trusting blond that I am, I send michael my 6 plus the one zaz sent me and tell him to add it to his total and that way, he will stand a good chance of winning and thereby, keeping me safe. It has become quite obvious to me at this point, I'm not doing very well in the comps, but after ending up on the block last week after veto, maybe he can save me for once.

This was a fun one. Too bad being HOH the week before made me ineligible to play. But I liked playing find a word. So maybe if I could come up with some words I could gain some favor with the other players. So I sent Kris a word or words, also to Jbug, and Michel I know I sent more than one and several to Corvis. I even kept track so I would not duplicate. Those I came up with on the first night. Michel even played the sympathy card about the comp being harder with English not being his first language. I thought that was a good ploy, Michel! The next day I reread the instructions and decided that Zenbot had not said that people could not look on the internet for answers. So I found a few sites that had lists of words. I even found a site that had more words than the number Zenbot said was the max. Anyway, I sent the links to Corvis, but it was later in the time to submit answers. From the looks of the number that were submitted I would guess that Corvis and Michel used online sources they had found to find word lists. Just sayin', because some of the words are just not every day words. ;) Then again, Corvis does have an English degree, so maybe he does know those unusual words.

This was easier than I thought (and I tested the count twice again in the span of about an hour). It was easier for me to count them because I knew where I placed all of the circles. This comp probably should have had about twice as many circles to be more competitive.

I printed this off - in black/white/grays. No color available. I wrote numbers in each circle. being careful NOT to count other edges of circles showing at other areas.I submitted the count - but told the Bot I might be back later with a different answer. I started another count, but gave up. My eyes were crossing. I told him that 181 was my final answer. ta da! I told Michel how I was doing mine - he laughed & said good luck, LOL Don't know if he was still throwing the comps at this time or not. Showin off my win! Thanks Cahaya-wonderful game!

Cahaya/Zenbot! This was not easy! At least not on a laptop. I counted the darn circles 4 times. I got 4 different answers. One of them was 181, the correct answer. Unfortunately, I did not submit that answer. I submitted 180. The good thing about this one was it was over the weekend and there was time to work on it. This type of puzzle is hard to work on if you have RL interruptions, you have to work on it solidly so you know you are not double counting something. I think you should give the option to have a larger jpg emailed to the players if they need that. Looking at this on a laptop screen is hard on the eyes!

LAST EDITED ON 09-21-11 AT 09:21 PM (EST)This game is called “Jokers Wild”. It is a 7-card draw poker game. You want to create the best poker hand you can from 7 draws. The deck has 52 cards and two Jokers. Everyone has their own deck. You can choose to draw from certain pools of cards by paying for the it (see below). When you make a choice from a pool of cards, you will get one of those cards, but you won't know which one. I will randomly draw the cards from any pools that you choose. For example, if you say draw red 7-10, then I will randomly pick a card that is a 7, 8, 9, or 10 of diamonds or hearts. Your budget is $200. These are the pools that you can choose to have your cards drawn from: Michel wins http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID7/1608.shtml#39 Showin off my win! Thanks Cahaya-wonderful game!

You all picked the right strategy for this one. In retrospect, I should have slightly increased the cost of drawing the any-card (not the red-card or black-card) pools to make it less obvious which was the best pool to bet on. I liked the concept, but it needed a bit more testing before posting.

I don't play much poker, but I knew enough to go for the face cards. Figured which would give me the best odds. I actually got out a deck of cards and did some random drawing myself. Usually got pretty good hands, so I figured I had the right plan. Michel & I talked this one over too. We had the same strategy.

It's odd how hard it is to count lines compared to circles. I drew it in about half an hour taking great care to keep a running count, but I found it very difficult to verify the count. Unfortunately, the 75K RTVW upload size limit led to a small graphic, when the original was four times as large. And enough counting comps... this one was the third.

Oh if I were in the house, I'm sure I'd have been on the block again. Everyone seemed to think my azz's implant was in that chair. I may have actually won that one cuz I think I was pretty close on the last counting one.

My favorite event to create, and I came up with a strategy that would have won the gold better than half the time vs the strategies actually used. I could have tweaked this one to make it a bit better, but the concept was good. The random draw had less to do with the result than the training strategy, which was what I aimed for.

You know, it was at this point that I really began to wonder if the zenbot were actually my husband's ex-wife.

I was totally & completely lost & confused.I asked friends at FB for help! Starshine gave me the only suggestion. So I told Michel my plan. Something in my plan was the same as his; he said we should try not to compete against each other. I was going to submit 4 training levels Swimming 4 training levels Stamina 2 training levels Leaping = 10 training levels Event Master in Distance Running Michel talked me into changing my event master to swimming or wheel gymnastics. I chose wheel. Zenbot? Would I have done better if I had stayed with Distance Running as my event master? Showin off my win! Thanks Cahaya-wonderful game!

I'm not going to reveal what I think the best strategy is for this game, as I intend to use this competition again.

But there were also diminishing returns... the first two levels got a 70% total of the max bonus, while the last two levels only got 30% of it. 40% came from the first level, while the last level only got 10% more (40-30-20-10). As an example, you could trade off that last 10% on two skills and pick up 40% on two new ones, effectively increasing your total skill set percentages.

LAST EDITED ON 09-23-11 AT 06:31 AM (EST) show off my winning wiggy,
Jbug,Let me tell you something. Even though you may actually have a wiggy(although I doubt it, cause usually only boys can have those)I'm not sure you, as a peach, would want to brag about having one!(let alone a winning one. Although Charlie Sheen might like to hear about your winning one)
Imagine setting up a thread just to show off your wiggy. What is this junior high?

LAST EDITED ON 09-23-11 AT 09:08 AM (EST)I was thinking last night that I don't think I ever thanked you for this wiggy siggy! You did make it, right? Thanks bestest friend. Is now a good time to tell the rest of the hamsters that you, our biggest fan, was rooting for me all along? Showin off my win! Thanks Cahaya-wonderful game!
I wondered how long it was going to take you to catch that! You're usually pretty quick! Like the enemas comment. You got that one fast. I started to put "I represent that" in my Corvis jury answer, but decided to play that one straight. I was playing for votes at that time; not comedy.
