Deonna 2425 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Seventeen Magazine Model" 04-16-04, 09:33 AM (EST) "Noel and Cold Medicine" Is there a secret sub culture of people addicted to cold medicine that I don’t know about? Do they go to different drug store to buy their cold medicine so no one will catch on to their “dirty” little secret? Should I alert the FDA to serious this health problem? My DH will take Nyquil if it is around when he occasionaly wakes up in the night to pee or something. If it's not there, he just goes back to sleep--but if it's there, he takes it to "help". I'm guessing that if you take something like that for a long time you decide you "need" it. Whether this is a physical addicition or not I don't know. Lots of people are addicted to Afrin & other sinus-clearing nasal inhalers. That is a physical addiction. You don't get high or anything, but your sinuses adjust to the chemical stimulation and totally block up when you stop using it. From ABC Good Morning America: Across the country, children and teens are intentionally overdosing on cold medicine or "robotripping" in order to get a hallucinogenic high. Robotripping,is the slang term for intentionally overdosing on over-the-counter cold medication such as the cough medicine Robitussin. Although cough syrup abuse is nothing new — it dates to more than 30 years ago — it seems to be undergoing a revival lately, with cases of teens overdosing on the medicine popping up across the country....The culprit ingredient is dextromethorphan, a common additive in cough suppressants that can cause hallucinations when used in large amounts, according to Dr. Drew Pinsky, an addiction expert... Scary huh? "RE: Noel and Cold Medicine" If you want to take a decent sleeping pill that will actually DO something to help you sleep, you need a prescription and most people aren't willing to go to a doctor and try to convince them they need it. Cough medicine is over the counter, cheap and contains alcohol so you get a buzzy feeling. SS, I too have sleep problems and when I really need to get to sleep I take two of the Tylenol PM pills and it really helps. And I don't wake up drowsy in the morning. It's strong strong stuff too. It's basically a hypnotic drug. It has amnesic qualities to it too. So say for instance you take an ambien but don't lay down immediatly to let it do its work, you can stay awake for a short time but be prepared to not remember anything that you did. Personally I only take 1/2 at a time (and only when I really really can't sleep) because they're strong little suckers. BUT I don't wake up with the groggy feeling which is nice. It's got another wierd side effect but it may just be on me personally. Don't ask my how I know that, but as long ago as 1992, kids were buying loads of Robitussin DM and drinking like ten bottles and it was supoosed to emulate the head-tripping drug (we rarely talk about) called DMT. "A very intense but brief trip, not really euphoric. Can be frightening because of the sudden onset. Not really a party drug, rather an interesting experience.
