Yeah, no joke there.In my estimation charities that solicit over the phone are no better. I discovered that my Dad was getting regular phone call solicitations from the Shriners (The Shriners! Imagine!) among other charities, and good hearted fellow that he was, always responded with a couple hundred dollars or so. This became a regular thing, even weekly. They were like vultures, they had apparently identified him as a memory challenged older person and just kept feeding on him. Worse, apparently he was on a list of marks that was shared. At that time we (his children) had someone (an accountant) monitoring his finances, but he was making his own purchases and payments. They finally alerted us to the problem, and we took control of all that. Then the solicitations started to get ugly and threatening, and it really upset him. We had to change his phone number, and some would still knock on his door. We began to fill out police reports after that. .
