"Autumn 2014 TV" |
Last year we had Agents, Blacklist, The Michael J Fox show, The Crazy Ones, Sleepy Hollow, Masters of Sex, and quite a few more as series to look forward to, some worked, some didn't, however at least there were shows to be excited about. What do we have this year? iZombie? Selfie? (although Amy Pond is looking hot hot hot, and Harold is always good value for money). Is anyone looking forward to any new series?

was filming around the work neighborhood, so I would tune in just to see if I recognize anything. With the exception of Houdini nothing on this list is screaming at me. I'm currently watching Outlander, it's been pretty good so far.

The 112th Precinct is about four blocks away from Station Square (where this pic shows). Everything was done in tudor style in Forest Hills Gardens so it does look very European. Theodore Roosevelt made several speeches from the train station just off frame to the right in this picture.

because of John Cho. It was entertaining enough but watching it for the long term probably won't happen.

I just watched the first 3 episodes of Forever last night On Demand. I liked it. Totally missed its premiere but saw an ad for it while I was watching Once Upon A Time. (Good advertising - totally the right audience, LOL)

LAST EDITED ON 10-03-14 AT 10:32 AM (EST)I read where "The Bridge" is not being renewed on FX, so the final episode may have been aired last night. "The Bridge" is a top tier show (IMO). Very gritty, and is similar in feel to “Deadwood” and “The Wire”. It’s that type of show. I hope it gets a second life on another network, although it seems very fitting on FX. The dialog is a mix of Spanish (subtitled) and English, and is very natural and casual mix, undisguisable from what you might actually hear in the area (setting is El Paso/Ciudad Juarez). Even the North Mexico/Chihuahua Spanish accent is amazingly authentic. I got into a spot of trouble once in my early years in Mexico that exposed me to both the police, the justice system and personnel, and the criminals. And the casting and the dialog are spot on authentic. It could hardly have been done better. A lot of research must have gone into making every detail perfect. The corrupt brutal police, the corrupt smarmy politicos, the variety of criminal personalities, all were just so perfectly represented. And performances by Dianne Kruger (spot on as a brilliant El Paso – US city – cop with a touch of Asperger’s), Ted Levine, Demián Bichir, and Matthew Lillard were stellar, but Franka Potente stole the show (IMO). With this cast, that was a feat indeed. It is hard core violent, intentionally so because of the subject matter and the locale, this type of violence actually goes on in these Texas/Mexico border areas, but it doesn’t dwell on the violence per se, no slow motion killing scenes. There is a lot of indifferent casual killing. And occasionally a lot of blood. So, when I recommend this, and I can’t recommend "The Bridge" highly enough as a work of art, be warned about that. Minor nudity (no frontal) and lots of cursing, both in English and Spanish. Don’t let kids who might be inclined to pick up Spanish curse words watch. That lexicon is well represented. But if it is available on DVD, Netflix, or whatever, and you want to be amazed, appalled, highly entertained, and just be in the presence of greatness, get it. The theme song sound track is very good and very grittily representative.
Tribe puts me in my happy place.

If you've never watched, each season is a self contained series with returning cast members. I thought last season's Coven was graphic. This season is entitled Freak Show. Boy is it. This has to be some of the most insane TV ever but the cast is very good. Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Michael Chiklis for starters. Not, so not for kids or sensitive people. Yikes I should be watched....closely.
