The show was very funny tonight. I bust a gut laughing when "Earl" hugged "Kip" and "Kip" said good bye sarg. Oh man that was hillarious. But all in all it was very sad as well. I feel bad for the guy. Hes so sweet and yet they are all out to basically make a fool of him. But still very funny show, and in the end im sure the network will give him some sort of money, and honestly I think he'll laugh at the outcome. Maybe be a little hurt but hes just such a genuine, good hearted guy that he'll probably take it as a big prank.

Wow, what a show!! I think this one was the best by far.

It was hilarious...with the talent show, the 'aye aye captain', and kip's 'vote' that read "Dr Pat farted twice last night." You don't get to see THAT on Survivor!

I thought it was somewhat deep too...if not by accident. It's pretty amazing that these actors are actually getting attched to the other people in this little performance of theirs. And the ending when Matt is commenting that "no amount of money is worth this" I think is at the heart of the parody in the show. What it tells me is that most reality shows probably try to weed out sincere people like Matt.

It also put to rest any doubts I had about Matt being in on it (see previous post listing reasons I thought he was). He's for real. I agree with the other post in another thread that argues there's no way he's a COMPLETE UNKOWN, who had a perfect background alibi, and can come in and bawl like that over Earl's eviction. No way.

...and how did Dr. Pat know to refute the gaseous incident?

They didn't seem all that close to me, so the crying was strange to me, over done or in reaction to something else (editing), perhaps just the stress of the situation in Matt's case. But then again, Matt claimed to feel sorry for Joe Jungle Rot to try and justify his emotions in an effort to look less silly.

Joe is not that likable. He seems to have anger control problems, and as soon as he found out that he was to go nowhere with Ashleigh, he wanted her out. Joe don't know squat!

How did Patricia refute it? (I really don’t remember what she wrote.) I imagine Kip could have told her ahead of time, or even gone back and told her jokingly what he wrote…although that would have to have been while Matt was voting.

I do find his quick turn on Ash more troubling than his emotions over The Pearl. We have to remember that they are together a lot more than we see, and as Hutch said in a written interview I read “it’s hard to always be in character, sometimes the bonding is real.” If Patricia is right that Matt and The Pearl had many ‘real’ conversations, it can be pretty shocking to see him go so unexpectedly--at least for a guy like Matt. I consider myself a relatively quick bond-maker, and can easily recall times of hanging out with people for days at a time and being pretty sad when they left. Not bawling of course! Well, there was this one girl...

Still, that level of sensitivity doesn’t mesh with his treatment of Ash. My guess is that maybe he thought he had a chance with Molly if he dumped on Ash. Maybe it was a defense mechanism for getting rejected. Whatever it was, I tend to think it more likely there’s a justified reason for it versus the whole thing ‘proving’ Matt is an actor.

Me too! Is this a normal "guy" reaction when they get the "you are like a brother to me speech" from a girl they are in lust with?

I'm not going to defend Matt's reaction to being rejected but I will say that it is quite normal for men. It's very awkward in this case because in effect, he is basically stuck with her in the house after being rejected. In the real world, when this happens, we try to stay away either because of shame, embarrassment at being rejected or just a desire to try and forget.

Since Matt doesn't have that option and also had the ammo that she was gunning for Molly, he chose to try to evict her.

And before the ladies jump me...yes I've had more than my fair share of rejection and while I dont try to boot people, it's easier to get past when they're not there looking you in the face everyday.

I think Matt bonded with Earl in a son/father type of way. They probably talked a lot when they had to share the room, and if Matt is as open to people as he is to the cameras, I'm sure Matt shared some thoughts and feelings with the old man, and probably got some elderly advice in turn. Seeing Earl leave probably had the same effect as saying goodbye to your parents when you move out of your house for the first time. You just well up with emotion because you realize how much you appreciated them. Matt is a very caring guy, and it makes sense. Touching, really.

At the elimination ceremony, it seemed like Matt was trying to maintain and not grimace/smile as Earl was being evicted. Then when Kip lost it, then so did Matt, then Matt went overboard in a gush. It's just too odd acting or not.

hmmm - I thought he wanted Ashleigh out because she was saying negative things about Molly. I'm sure the "like you like a brother" comment didn't help his attitude about her, but he didn't want to tell Molly until after the vote so it didn't cause fireworks.

the crying is a little odd, and a little not. for matt, I can see it; he was probably cast in part because he is very emotional and would show it on tv.

the others, though, I'm not sure about. I don't think the other actors were faking it (and they did show them all gathered in a room, away from Matt, saying they were surprisd at themselves for actually tearing up a bit) ...on other reality shows, when you are with your people all day and there is no other stimulus, I could understand this... plus, you bond over the shared experiences (the game, the challenges, etc) that you are going through, so you grow close that way...

BUT in this show, not only are the actors just acting (i.e. they go out of character during every a.m.'s production meeting), but it looks like the house also has other stimulus-- I coulda sworn I saw a couple magazines in the shot of matt up in his room crying at the end. magazines? you don't want reality show contestants sitting around reading magazines, you want them talking (arguing, screwing, whatever) with each other! so that was totally weird, the whole magazine mystery...

The other thing that cracked me up was when Earl laughed through the puppet show while the others sat hushed and serious. I truly love this show.

Earl is a bit socially inept. Anything past the nose of his rifle, and he's lost.
