I wasn't home but I recorded from 8-10PM and forwarded my way from the 9PM hour until I find the promo at what looked to be at about 9:30PM.If you listened to the intro country tune during the promo, it was a custom tune made for the show... and it stated that Joe is "riding out of Texas" Plus, whe he said "they're in for a surprise!" at the end of the promo, there was a clear Texas twang, so clearly the guy is from Texas. I'll try and post some vidcaps this afternoon.. but clearly the report we posted a couple of weeks ago was true: http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=1689

I saw the promo during the Emmy's Sunday night and I can almost guarantee that I know the next Joe Millionaire. He is from Midland, Texas and his name is David Smith.

Just trying a side-by-side comparison: Yep, that looks like him to me. His school bio says: Hometown: Bellville, Texas Events: Bareback Major: Biology Accomplishments: 2000 "Rookie of the Year" C.P.R.A. So apparently he was a freshman at the junior college in Fall 2000... and was there for the 2001-2002 team. So since junior colleges are only two years, does that mean he was at McMurry University in Fall 2002? Or are you saying he dropped out of McMurry University sometime before 2000 and resurfaced at WCJC in Fall 2000? If he was a true 18 year-old freshman in Fall 2000 than that'd make him no more than say 22 now. Can that be right? -SB

It appears he was still at WCJC this spring as he has rodeo results for this year:http://www.wcjc.edu/athletics_n/rodeostandings.asp Can you find him in the picture for the 2002-2003 year? All those cowboy hats make it hard to tell if he is there. I would upload it but it is too large. http://www.wcjc.edu/athletics_n/rodeo.asp He also has results in a pro rodeo even in Texas in April (I guess he gave up his amateur status *snicker*). http://1fine.com/austin Bareback Riding: (first round) 1, James Boudreaux, Cuero, Texas, 83 points on Buttercrunch, $1,813. 2/3, Kelly Timberman, Mills, Wyo., and Zach Dishman, Beaumont, Texas, 81, $1,181. 4, David Smith, Bellville, Texas, 79, $659. 5/6, Forest Bramwell, Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Tyson Thompson, Templeton, Calif., 78, $330 (second round) 1/2, Tom McFarland, Morristown, Ariz., on Smokeless Bowtie and Heath Ford, Kersey, Colo., on Shady Side Justin, 81, $1,593. 3, Timberman, 80, $989. 4/5, Forest Bramwell, Pagosa Springs, Colo., and David Smith, 78, $522. 6, Rick Bradley, Brentwood, Calif., 77, $275. 16. "2003 rodeo results" |
http://www.wcjc.edu/athletics_n/sp03_march20.aspMarch 20-22, 2003 Smith Paces Pioneer Rodeo Team Saddlebronc rider Cody Smith took over sole possession of 2nd place in the regional standings by riding consistently at the annual Texas A & M NIRA rodeo held March 20-22 in College Station, TX. The Palmer, TX native won the first round of the bronc riding (72 pts.), placed 2nd in the short round (71 pts.) and split 1st and 2nd in the average with a combined score of 143 points on two head. This is the 2nd consecutive rodeo that the freshman cowboy has won the average and he now trails only Cody DeMoss of Northeast Texas Community College. Bareback sensation Zach Dishman kept up his winning ways by riding aggressively all weekend. The Sophomore cowboy won the 1st round (75 pts.), split 2nd-4th in the short round (73 pts.) and won 2nd in the average with a combined score of 148 points on two head. Dishman is currently in 2nd place in the regional bareback riding standings. Bellville cowboy David Smith moved up in the bareback riding standings by splitting 2nd and 3rd in round #1 (73 pts.), and splitting 3rd and 4th in the average with a combined score of 144 points on two head. Smith moved from the sixth position up to the number 4 position in the regional standings. http://www.wcjc.edu/athletics_n/sp03_feb27.asp Feb. 27-March 3, 2003 Pioneer Rodeo Team Begins Spring Competition The WCJC Men’s rodeo team began the spring rodeo season with a 2nd place overall win at the annual Sam Houston State University NIRA Rodeo held February 27 – March 1 at the Walker County Fairgrounds in Huntsville, TX. Leading the way for the Pioneers was freshman cowboy Cody Smith. The Palmer, Texas native dominated the Saddle bronc riding competition by winning 2nd in the first round (72 points), split 1st and 2nd in the short round (68pts.) and winning 1st in the average with a combined score of 140 points on two head. The freshman cowboy is currently 3rd in the regional standings trailing Cody DeMoss of Northeast Texas Community College and Jake Dubose of McNeese State University. Team Roper extraordinaire Cody Thornton moved his way into the number 6 position in the regional standings by roping solidly all weekend. The freshman paired up with Tim Wilson of Southwest Texas Jr. College to place 10th in round 1 (7.1 seconds), 2nd in the short round (6.1 seconds) and 2nd in the average with a combined time of 13.2 seconds on two head. Thornton also placed 4th in the average (18.0 seconds on two) while roping with Eddie Sanchez of Texas A & M University at Kingsville. Regional bareback riding leader Zach Dishman kept up his winning ways by placing 2nd in the 1st round (72 points), splitting 3rd and 4th in the short round (72 pts.) and winning 3rd in the average with a combined score of 144 points on two head. The Beaumont cowboy appears to be headed back to the College National Finals Rodeo in June in Casper, Wyoming. Reining Southern region bareback riding champion David Smith placed in bareback riding as well. The Bellville native placed 5th in round #1 (69 pts.), split 3rd and 4th in the short round (72 pts.) and placed 5th in the average with a combined score of 141 points on two head. ********************** So ... we know he's been at Wharton Co. JuCo for 2 years: 2001-03, which uses up his JuCo eligibility. We know he is also riding on the CPRA circuit, and started doing so in 1999-2000. We don't know much else.

In that bottom shot, he looks like the guy in the Budweiser commercials (the followup to the whassup commercials when they have the Italian guys in the bar saying "How You Doin"" to everyone and the guy in the cowboy hat responds with a long rambling story about his plane ride over).

You'd had to be living in a cave not to have heard SOMETHING about this show and how it works. Do you guys believe these women are really uninformed? This guy looks like yet another poor schmo sucked into TV land just to be shredded up and spit out, and FOX is the most sensational of all networks. He has something in his closet, they always do. Perhaps his testes are as flat as a pancake from all that horse time. The Butler will again be the great defender of all schmos against these evil women of the world. Evan plays a humping bull dog on Charmed. I wonder how that casting call read.

I think you too are overstating the impact of American pop culture in the average European's lifestyle. I doubt any of them ever heard of Joe Millionaire, never mind watched it. And I'm sure "what reality shows do you watch" was one of the very first screening questions on the application. "Pop Idol" was the biggest thing to hit the UK in years... yet until it arrived in the US as "American Idol" no one knew a thing about it, and when it did arrive, folks were comparing it to "Star Search," not the UK show -SB

LAST EDITED ON 09-30-03 AT 03:59 PM (EST)The highest rated television show in England last summer was CSI. (editing to add, summer 2002, not summer 2003). I'm not saying Europe actually watched JM last year with bated breath, but I think at least a hint of the gimmick has made it to European venues. In other words, I still say most of these women know. But that can be the new angle in watching this season - who is acting like they don't, effectively, and who is actually in the dark re the bogus fortune? At any rate, I will at least catch the first episode, and doubtless be sucked into the quagmire that will be the 2nd season. >

32. "RE: But...." |
Also keep in mind England (actually the United Kingdom) is ONE COUNTRY in Europe. Europe is far for than just England... and my understanding is there is only one woman from each country on the show.I'm confident that they could find one women in all of England that was not familiar with the show. And the reality is that England is BY FAR the most "Americanized" European country. The idea that they "must know" simply doesn't hold water... they can't find a woman in France that didn't hear abour Joe Millionaire? All of Spain? Italy? Germany? Switzerland? Belgium? Greece? Ireland? Poland? Norway? Denmark? Netherlands? Portugal? That's 14 countries right there. English is commonly spoken in many of these countries, it shouldn't have been that hard at all. -SB
