Judging by this though, it sounds like it's gonna be October 10. In the meantime though, it's a great setup, they're not going up against Survivor (when it comes back), but following it, which is good for those of us who want to follow both but are too lazy to set VCRs. I also love the Episode rebroadcasts they're working in for the first few weeks. There've been a lot of shows (like Murder in Small Town X) that I missed out on the first couple episodes, so I didn't bother with it later. This'll give people a chance to get into it. Go ABC! Now just give us the Mole 3! The Artist Formerly Known As DarkLotus

8. "RE: Anyone know when it'll start?" |
Anyone else notice that the Tuesday premiere is in The Mole's timeslot?Apaprently ABC is going to rebroadcast episodes (aka repeats) of USA's new 'Monk' series on Tuesday's at 9PM between now and 9/17 (how wierd is that -- first USA airs rebroadcasts on NBC's 'Law & Order SUV' -- at least that made SOME sense -- now ABC is making a big deal out of running 'Monk' repeats for a month.) That's even stranger than NBC's 4 episode "She Spies" deal. The wierd this is that Bonnie Hunt's show is supposed to have that Tuesday 9PM timeslot -- yet when her show premieres on 9/17, it will be a 8:30PM so that PUSH can use the slot, and then the following week, it will once again be at 8:30PM so that some lame "retrospective" episode of NYPD Blue can air. Bonnie can't be very happy... first they give her the difficult Tuesday 9PM timeslot (where Frasier, Smallville, 24 all air) but then they bump her first two episodes into the 8:30PM timeslot with some new show called '8 Simple Rules' as a poor lead-in) -SB

9. "programming woes" |
I was just reading an article about ABC's programming (or lack thereof) today. They are "hiring" HBO to look for new shows for them...which makes sense, I guess, since HBO is the only one with "quality" programming these days. (Of course, The Mole came from Europe.)Also mentioned in the article, if you didn't already know, is that DisneyABC (yes, I made that one word) had been primarily getting all of their shows out from Touchstone (a mouse division). The author also stated that the low quality of the programming was pretty much due to lack of competition from outside producers. I am not surprised though about the programming chaos. They all have their own distorted agendas, always have, and ya gotta kinda wonder what universe they live in. I could go off on another discussion about vcr's and nielsen ratings...but I won't bore you. But, I will give ABC kudos on one aspect: the interaction with the internet. With The Mole and Alias, they seem to realize that enough of their audience (however low it might be) actually own computers too. Has anyone else noticed any internet connections with other shows?

11. "ABC: A Rant" |
<<From ABC's press release, they defintely seem to be giving it a push>> Yeah, right into the abyss of horrible ratings. This is exactly why ABC is the lowest rated network. Allow me to play network executive for a moment, and I'll explain. Everytime they get a good "new" idea, they have to sabotage it by trying to conquer the titans of TV. They might have learned a thing or two from the success of "CSI", the show they're trying to unseat. When "CSI" started, it ran on Friday, where a lot of new shows get their start. Granted, most fall by the wayside, but it's a good place to cut your teeth, because there's no bohemoth. "CSI" got a groundswell of support, then CBS decided to move it to Thursday after their lead dog "Survivor", and against shows with which it has very little in common ("Will & Grace" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" if memory serves). Another, and perhaps better, option would have been to run it in "The Mole"'s old slot. They're doing it for the premiere, so why not keep it there? It would be up against "Frasier", which is not the juggernaut it once was, and a new show--"Hidden Hills". More importantly, it wouldn't have the same core audience. So what does ABC do instead? They premiere it in a good time slot, then immediately move it to Thursday one week before "CSI" premieres. For those who miss the premiere, they're going to rebroadcast it vs. the season premiere of the most successful show in the genre, "Survivor". Then, they're going to do the same "rebroadcast - new episode" format for 2 more weeks. Do these people get that they are not making things easy for their target audience? I would say that the vast majority of people who would be interested in this show are either fans of "Survivor" or "CSI"...or BOTH. And that's not even factoring in the "F" word. Unfortunately, ABC has a track record of doing this sort of thing. "Murder One" had a similarly inventive premise, and ABC in its wisdom decided to run it up against "ER", which was the highest rated show on TV at the time it premiered. As with "Push", "Murder One" was premiered in a different time slot, then moved after 1 or 2 episodes to Thursdays at 10pm vs. "ER". It got clobbered. Not because it was an inferior show, at least not IMO, but because 1 or 2 shows are not enough to get a fan base. I'm afraid the same is going to happen to "Push", which has a very similar structure to "Murder One". Both are the kind of show that you need to see from the beginning, and both have storylines that not only build off of the previous week, but rely on the viewer having seen the previous week. In a nutshell, they are not shows that you can pick up in the middle very easily. Hopefully I'm wrong. Maybe "Push" will be the best show ever and succeed despite ABC's idiocy. Fester

12. "RE: ABC: A Rant" |
Fester, hopefully ABC realizes that it's performance versus CSI is not indicative of it's possible audience, I don't think you follow the Mole, so you probably missed my below post:http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID11/765.shtml#5 "ABC Entertainment Television Group Chairman Lloyd Braun told Affleck the network is not expecting "Push, Nevada" to finish first or even second in the ratings for that time period. "We just told them to produce a show of great quality in which you can maintain or grow a loyal audience," Braun said. " And hopefully the fact that LivePlanet (the producers of the show) have basically sold out to Disney should help it's chances of staying on the air: http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml;jsessionid=OHPKTWN0K5JXECRBAELCFFA?type=search&StoryID=1290147 Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have secured a two-year film production deal at Disney for their Live Planet production company.
Initially formed to hatch reality shows, the company is now refocusing to use Disney as a launch pad for features. "We formed Live Planet with the idea of focusing our efforts on integrated media projects," said Chris Moore, a partner in the company along with the acting duo and Sean Bailey. "We raised independent money and wanted to stay independent and sell projects to the most interested parties. We found that integrated properties are hard to do and that they can take a very long time."
...is it that last line just screaming for a "gee, you think?" response??? Frankly it sounds like the money flow is being cut of to Liveplanet from it's VC investors just as those same VC's did with all their other dead dotcom's. (For those not aware, Liveplanet used to make a big deal about how the $15mil they raised to get started had all come from Silicon Valley VC firms.) -SB

14. "RE: Deja Vu" |
I can't understand their thinking at all. They screwed up the launch of THE MOLE and now they are doing it again with PUSH. Why debut a new show on a different night than it will be on? It is hard enough for people to follow a schedule without mixing them up from the beginning. Then they put it opposite popular shows with the same audience they are after.
