I could remember if it was to the point they were hanging out on the box stand and not seeing it with them. I know they were walking right by it, but it looked like one of these guys might have had a foot on the base of it and still not noticing it.

LAST EDITED ON 04-19-09 AT 07:19 PM (EST)the b-word making its appearance. From what I could see they were both headed for the clue box at the same time but Luke was the one throwing the elbow. Ooo, they just showed it again. There was some crowding and bumping by both.

It looked like Luke intentionally bumped Jen on the 2nd time. The first time it looked like they both were going too fast to stop but Luke did throw that elbow up.

Personally, I don't think it matters what they were laughing at.I thought from the one cab confessional that they were likely to laugh at something, anything, just to see how much they could escalate the pissed offness. Step 1. Tell everyone your version of the story where you are totally innocent and everything is always someone esle's fault. Step 2. Find the most obnoxious reaction you can to the other people melting down over being cast as the villian which usually is laughing. Step 3. The more they melt down, the more you laugh. I think there may be some part that was about how Luke looks when he gets passionate when he is signing angrily and trying to vocalize what he is feeling. I think, however, they would have laughed had he been a hearing person having a fit. I think they knew full well that they could make anything worse with the snide but pretending to be oh so innocent laughing. I have a feeling they've escalated things that way before and know exactly how to play it for maximum effect. It was obvious neither side had much interest in working things out, but I think K&J were much more invested in firing up the Mom and Luke than the other way around.

>but I think K&J were much >more invested in firing up >the Mom and Luke than >the other way around. >I disagree. I think it's the >other way around. >Mommy Dearest and Luke have creeped >me out since day one. You obviously forgot what the sisters said in the cab earlier - they knew they were going to laugh at whatever to escalate the situation and rile up their opponents. They clearly said this, and it was part of their game strategy. Did you see the smug smile on the face of one of the sisters? Go look at it again. It was right after Margie started railing on the sisters for laughing - it's unmistakable. They were egging her on. I agree that Margie and Luke needed to get a lid on their emotions and gain better control of themselves, but the sisters knowingly egged them on -- and like I said elsewhere in this thread, Jen called Luke a bitch which set things off in the first place (Luke wasn't overtly upset until after he heard that from Margie), there wasn't a need for that kind of sportsmanship in the first place.

I agree with Pepe & Snidget. I also think as a protective Mama Bear, Margie didn't have to tell Luke that Jen called him a beyotch. No different than if he was hearing and missed it. It just adds fuel to his anger.

Luke is definitely over-emotional and Mama-Bear enables that. However when the girls say they intend to add fuel to the fire I believed them. Sure Luke and Mama-Bear weren't interested in making peace but I think the girls are strategic enough to use getting another team mad to throw them off their game. I think Luke and Mama-Bear were all about getting the apology/righteous anger rather than all about upsetting another team for advantage. Usually that kind of blind rage doesn't have an intent other than vengeance. The girls seemed more able to take the situation and twist it for game purposes rather than just one more instance of you people aren't treating us right. I'll have to look in slow motion to see if that elbow at the face looked to have intent. Luke flails around so much of the time that I'm not sure there was an aim at that or he just flailed and whatever is in the way just happens to be in the way.

Except she foreshadowed the laughing in his face in the taxi by saying"I'll ##### you off more because I'll laugh in your face". So I don't think it was just a nervous reaction. They were clear in the taxi rides they were in game on mode and if getting them back by getting them upset enough to throw them off their game, I think they were more than willing to go there. I know a lot of people are really sick of Luke and his Mom, but I really can't see the sisters as completely innocent victims in this. They were just as physical in the pushing matches and clearly were wanting to use any upset they could for their advantage. But then I don't like either team.

I don't like the way Margie & Luke were playing the deaf card when things didn't go their way. I thought they came on the race to prove Luke could do it. They can't have it both ways.

I think Margie could have phrased it in a better way, but yes, that's what she was aiming for with her comments. My parents and my brother all went through it with me when I was younger - you'd be surprised at how many people who are minorities themselves and are part of a group that has frequently been made fun of or historically have been treated poorly then go on and treat others with less respect in the same manner. Jen knowingly called Luke a bitch behind his back such that he wouldn't be able to hear/see what she said - it took Margie to tell Luke what she said before he went into anger/meltdown mode. In our community, it's a sign of disrespect to talk about a deaf person behind his back - particularly to slam someone out of eyesight. It's why sign-language interpreters have a code of ethics that whenever a deaf person enters the room, they automatically switch over to sign language while conversing with each other, even if the conversation has nothing at all to do with the particular deaf person who has just entered. It's a sign of respect and equality for everyone. I think that is what Margie was getting at - she was offended at Jen badmouthing Luke behind his back when she was the one who draped herself on Luke's back and then reached around him while he was trying to get the clue. I realize that most of it was because of the emotion and stress of the race, but if Jen has a problem with Luke, she should know enough to tell Luke right to his face instead of muttering behind his back knowing he can't hear what she says. Really... this whole kerfuffle could have been avoided if all racers were told to back off and give the person with his/her hand on the clue box first an extra two or three seconds to get the clue then move out of the way for the next person. Jen had one hand on Luke's back and was reaching over him with the other hand, so naturally Luke's first response was to push her away. I'd have pushed her back as well and said "BACK OFF" firmly if I were in the same position (minus the elbow throw but add the stiff-arm).

I think both sides were at fault, for the reasons others have laid out here. I think Margie shouldn't have repeated to Luke that Jen called him a #####. She knows her son better than anyone, and that's throwing fuel on the fire. Let it go and focus on the race, not petty stuff like name calling.I was sorry to see Margie get so upset and defensive of her baby boy. Luke supposedly came on the race to show that deaf people can do as well as anyone else in the big wide world. Both Luke and Margie need to step out more often, and stop focusing so much on Luke's deafness and how that sets him apart. So what if you were called a #####? As a strong-minded female, I get that from time to time, and you won't see me crying about it. So what if someone laughs at you when you sign? We've all got our own cross to bear, and the trick is not to let what others say or do define you. Let it roll off your back, smile right on back just to drive them crazy, and then get on with what you want to do. Designed by Agman, siggy maker to the gemstones

I don't know *what* they were laughing at, but I think they knew he gets flustered rather easily so they might have been capitalizing on that. But, consider this... Would you agree that Margie has been one of the more mild-mannered people in this game so far, at least up until last night? Has anyone berated less people or had less confrontations or snippy comments than Margie amongst the final ten people in the game? She didn't bite back when someone went up to Luke's face and called him a sneaky deaf kid for the U-Turn back in about episode 3. She wasn't shown defending Luke, she just shrugged it off. But something set her off big time last night. I think it's a reasonably safe guess that she wouldn't have been set off in a big way if it was just some random laughing. WE saw on TV that Jen/Kisha would use laughing at someone as a game strategy to rile up other people, but Margie didn't see that or know that. She's been around Luke for all these years and she knows the limits that other people push in getting on Luke. Wouldn't you agree that there was *something* from Kisha/Jen that really pushed Margie's limits? She didn't defend Luke when he was called out right to his face by others earlier in the game, but she comes swinging right out there while on the mat? I'd say there was more to it than what we were shown from Jen/Kisha to make Margie, one of the more mild-mannered people in the game, so riled up. I expected Luke to go into great histrionics, but I didn't expect this from Margie.

I understand that, still I think it goes to show that Margie isn't known for jumping on every little comment and overreacting, so my point was that something must have *really* pushed her over the limit last night.
