PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats, but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are encouraged to read the complete guidelines. As entertainment critic Roger Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

"What Order to Post within a Thread?"
Please help me . . . I'm uninitiated as this is my 1st time posting to a message board. Not only have the moderators (whose volunteered time keeps this site as coherent as possible) helped me along but so have the guidelines, help forums and moderator mailbags. And yet, I still don't quite get the order in which we are to post replies within a thread. Last week, Cyngus chided me for "Maybe -1 Posts?" (LOL) I guess that meant I'd posted in the wrong order? What sd I do when there's a post I'd like to respond to but it's in the middle of a thread? Without always having to quote from it, how sd I reply? Do I hit that poster's reply button or do I just make a post at the end of the thread ? Also, sd I pay attention to the numbers (which are sometimes non-consequetive)? Other than telling me I'm too dense to post, cd someone please explain so I can follow the rules? Many Thanks!

1. "RE: What Order to Post within a Thread?"
In general this is what I do.

If the reply is to the main person who stared the thread, I hit the reply button on the original post. It will then be at the bottom of the thread until others do the same.

If I want to reply to someone's comment made on the thread I hit the reply to that post (so it will be indented under their post).

I generally only quote a very small part of a post if I want it to be clear what I am responding to (usually not needed as much with this format where replies can be done to specific posts within the thread), and since I don't like the way the board makes the original quote really narrow I usually copy and paste the sentance or two and put in tags for italics to set it off from my words. {i} {/i} except use the [ brackets.

You're very wise to ask, wish more people would. It does take time to figure the whole thing out and become properly oriented. You're headed in the right direction, however.

p.s. as a minor addition to what Snidget said: if you wanna see how to make things larger, smaller, etc. hit "reply with quote" so you can see what html tags people used to create different effects.

Oh, and to add about the numbers.

The numbers tell you what order things were added to the thread, so for reading down a thread I don't pay attention to them as they can be in any order.

However, if I know I read lets say the first 20 some posts of a thread last time I was on, I will look at the numbers to find which posts I have not read no matter where in the order they ended up.

Follow Snidget's advice.

And I agree with her about quoting as well, it's better to copy and paste the text than use the "Reply with quote" function, at least until you get familiar with it. For example, with Reply With Quote, if the person has a signature-pic with the font set to a smaller size underneath (as in this post or DooWahDitty's above), that will be in the quote and your post will come out in tiny letters if you just post under the whole thing without editing (I've seen this a number of times and I'm sure the poor poster had no idea why it happened).

We already cleared this up, but my remark was a play on the DAW counts. Thanks all for your replies!
