I had no clue I was going to do this until the spider thresd last week - plus, I don't know which category this should go in (not that it'll matter as it's just a lark and not seriously going to compete either way). So, Icey can decide where it goes. This was inspired by a little backyard problem we have and the advice of a few posters, therefore the PN category. But, it's written as a poem, therefore the RP category.
Thanks to Woe for all the great work here setting this up (btw - nice to talk to you last night - CSTL and I finished our "task" and it'll be going in the mail in a few hours).
There was concern that day in the town of Sittem
Though the mayor told the fam not to fear them
A pack of rats had set up house by the deck
Oh boy, oh dear, innagaddamavida, oh my heck
What could they do, this fearful burgh in Chicago
Why, the thought of termination seemed almost unlawful
But seeing them frolic, his face began to twitch
And he decided to act rather than sit around and b*tch
On a trip to Ace Hardware he did score him some traps
And placed the contraptions all over the yard map
And in the land of Sittem there was heard all kinds of clatter
As traps sprung on bones and blood started to spatter
But, now though the air was quite clear of all sound
The trapped rats lay in a huge, towering mound
The mayor looked aghast at a 10 inch limp body
The proud little creature now looked rather shoddy
What should he do about the disposal
He turned to OT to solicit a proposal
For the mayor knew that denizens there would surely mutter
An answer, and one came soon from faithful Deerhunter
He suggested an answer, one that couldn’t be sweeter
"Just bundle it up and send to Pagong Rat Eater"
The mayor pondered and asked, send it UPS or Fed Ex
"Pre-mail" retorted Dh, it’s clear as the gut of Lex
Then another suggestion was made by dear Coconut
"Compost ‘em in Sittem" and the mayor pondered, but
Another solution did present itself soon
And it emerged one night by the light of the moon
There came that night wandering a feline quite stealthy
And it appeared out of nowhere looking quite healthy
It made quick work of the bones, fur and fat
"That was delightful and tasty" said the Cat in the Hat
Just a bit more information on the problem at hand - I did discover one morning that the carcasses of two juvenile trapped rats had indeed been largely eaten the night before by something.
