The email is just a standard mailto, and that calls whatever your computer's default email client is. If you don't have anything set up, or if something is configured incorrectly that would explain your funny error messages. Either that, or the presence of those ubiquitous gremlins that love to find new and frustrating ways to make your computer act bad. If you mouse over the link, you see the email address.
